The Appleseed Cast are often named as the band that Moving Mountains take a lot of cues from.. the difference is that TAC leans a bit more towards the post rock side. Also, it's not a bad idea to check out Jeniferever, Gregor Samsa, Logh, and maybe even Envy (though Envy are kind of heavier than what you are looking for probably...)

Try em out and see if you like any of them.

Where can I find "The Deer Hunter"?

It's not on What.cd and usually I download stuff, listen to it on my ipod for a little bit, then if I like it, I might buy it when I have the money. haha.

Check for: The DEAR Hunter, The Deer Hunter is a totaly different band. here are some of my recomendations:

In:Aviate - "1958" **
Forgive Durden - "Razia's Shadow" <- A MUST LISTEN. **
Fear Before - "Fear Before"
Good Old War - "Only Way To Be Alone" **
The Number Twelve Looks Like You - "Mongrel"
The Sound of Animals Fighting - "The Tiger and The Duke" (Anthony Green's side project) **
The Fall of Troy - "Manipulator"
Dance Gavin Dance - "Downtown Battle Mountain", "Self-Titled" **
August Burns Red - "Messengers"

They might now all suit your taste but they're definitely worth checking out. the artists/albums with the "**" marked beside them would be better suited for your taste.

Good Old War - "Only Way To Be Alone"

Good album. Don't care too much for the rest, but this one is good.

It's The Dear Hunter, not "deer". I'm not being a spelling Nazi here, it's just there's another group called Deerhunter who are vastly different. Confusion among the two is quite rampant on the internet.

Go to their MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/thedearhunter

Listen to Red Hands, Oracles On The Delphi Express, and City Escape. If you like those tracks, then buy Act I. After you've worn out the listening of that EP, go out and buy Act II, and prepare to shit your pants.

it makes me so unhappy that death cab gets put on scene-indie lists, they are a legit band with remnants of a legitimate lo-fi 90s indie sound :(

Probably because Death Cab is kinda well known. I don't really listen to them too often but they have smoe amazing songs, especially Styrofoam Plates, Tiny Vessels, and What Sarah said.

I agree with all these bands you've suggested but I don't see how Four Year Strong compare to the likes of Lydia, Moving Mountains etc.

If he honestly digs acoustic stuff, might as well direct him to the cream of the crop.

theguy77
01/28/09, 08:34 PM
haha but folk is much different from pop-punk strumming on an acoustic. MUCH different. much better

i know you're not so much for calling it folk but it really does have that distinctly different style of play and songwriting, if you're talking from a perspective of the method of guitar playing involved it is technically "folk guitar".

IWasaCamera

Sure, I'm just steering him to Drake based on the common "acoustic" thread.

Styrofoam Plates is tops for me. Not even the other two I mentioned are half as good as Styrofoam Plates in my mind haha
