i saw the preview for this the other day and it did look pretty creepy. What is this rated?

PG-13, which is the only reason I have some doubts about its quality.

Does it have anything to do with that book, "My Life at Rose Red" or something like that? I read it awhile ago and can't remember if the girls name was Emily....

yea, i thought it was rated pg-13, thats too bad...

I see you got suckered into the advertising...its actually more about the court case than the cheap scares in which they're showing you

UndertheTELE

well thats even more potentially disappointing

Yeah, I just read more about it. It's definitely not about that book I mentioned...however, you are right...it's more about the court case.

Wasn't the Ring rated PG-13 too? The first one...... and yeah that one was pretty freaking scary.

That will piss me off if its all the court scenes.

The quality of the preview does not show the quality of the movie.

there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical. first time director, and the a pg-13 rating has never been a good combination. but there are probably more reasons to be excited about it. the previews do look scary. and Tom Wilkinson hardly chooses shallow movie roles. Laura Linney hardly chooses shallow movie roles, so there's good reason to think this might be good...

EDIT: i knew the minute i posted this i would remember some gay ass movie that tom wilkinson was in, and sure enough, i forgot he was in the black knight, but other than that, he's done amazing movies.

Just to seal the deal on this on:

I pulled this from a review...

"Don’t be fooled by the trailer and TV spots for The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Though clips of ghoulish faces are prominently featured in an attempt to sell it as a horror flick, those scenes comprise all of a few seconds of actual screen time.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose, which is based on a true story, is more of a mystery and courtroom drama than horror movie. That said, there are some creepy, intense moments scattered throughout, and it’s a high-quality effort well worth seeing. "

There you have it.

I'll still go see this.

Can anyone find any information about the real Emily Rose online? I tried and all I could find was movie information.

As a somewhat devout Catholic, I'm surprised I'd never heard of this. Exorcisms aren't exactly the most common things.

court cases can be good too... A Few Good Men, Runaway Jury, Rainmaker for a few

but you're right... if its being billed as a scary movie, it'll be a big letdown to most people.

i might try to see it, not sure yet

the ring was terrible, in my opinion. it was more suspenseful than scary, and not very much so even at that.

i agree. i didn't think it was scary at all. i thought the plot was very, very laughable. i mean, watching a tape that puts a curse on you?

:shake:

Very.

Supposedly. It's "based" on a true story but, I don't think I really believe it.

I admit, when I saw the previews for this I was real excited. It looked badass (aside from the PG-13 rating) but now that I've read this thread I'm a little iffy. I'll prob go see it anyway because I like court drama and stuff like that too but, we'll see. I'm optomistic.

Meh, i'll see it anyway. Even if it is a "court case" movie, the subject matter is interesting enough if it really is based on real events.

that is just like the amittyville horror being based on truths. bull shit.

hmmm I don't know what to think. it's not like I was going to watch this movie to begin with, but thinking that it might be true.. is still so scary.

It sounds pretty interesting but with the whole being "based on a true story" bit I don't know what to think either.
