Ahh new thread. I'm going to comment to being a top poster here like I used to be.
Continued from the last thread.
What has already happened has happened. You can't change the past. Forget Desmond. Before the island moved and even started time hopping, we already knew that Alpert visited Locke as a child twice but didn't know why. Now we know! That means that his meeting with Locke has always happened! I say this is fact. Richard knew exactly when he would be born. Am I making sense now? The time hopping is not changing anything on the island. No new memories. These events have always happened. Desmond is just an exception.
Well we really can't say for sure that particular event is only related to Desmond, though. I'm not really saying it's changing anything except new memories that happened in that past are being remember. Sorta like memories on top of memories. But I just watched some older episodes today and what you are saying kind of makes more sense since guys like Ben and Richard are always emphasizing why it's important Locke stays alive.
Yeah, I mean, all his stuff is solid, but I think that, based on what I've got into so far, he could use a little time to really pull something together that's as wonderful as Gold was. I don't know though. That's interesting he's got unreleased stuff yet to be put out there.
The guy has literally a library of unreleased material.
I'm assuming you've read Y: The Last Man? I haven't read many comics, but that remains as my favorite comic ever and I really can't image anything topping that for a while...
Y is one of the best things I've ever read. I hope the ending of LOST comes close to the genius of Y's ending.
I have read two comics, that and Watchmen. I read that one a long time ago though and would love to reread it at some point.
How many volumes of it have you read ?

new thread, awesome.
I was reading some other forums and came across some interesting stuff. One thing I read was about the whole time looping type thing, and it theorized that Charlie himself was the musician that programmed the musical password in the Looking Glass. But, kind of contradictory, someone theorized that the oceanic 6 in every other repeated timeline, never left the island. The only reason they did is because Desmond turned the key, was able to see the future, saw Charlies fate (Charlie was supposed to die, as he did in the previous time loops on the island), but Desmond delayed his death, so Charlie ended up entering the password and getting the Oceanic 6 off the island.

wouldn't it be crazy if Jin does in fact turn out to be dead. Then once the Oceanic 6 get back to the Island, there is a time-shift that goes back to when Jin is alive on the island, and Sun sees him and crap, but then the time-shift happens again, and he just keeps dying? . For the record though, i do still believe he's alive. Though, I have the feeling since we're supposed to see Jin on the island again, it's supposed to make us think he's alive. I have conflicting pov's.

hahaha win.
So we know the "Lets go backers" have 70 hours left to return and this is 3 years after they left. Do you think the island is having a reverse Narnia time effect, meaning, in Narnia, once they enter the wardrobe, years and years go by, but once they leave it, its only been like a split second.
In this case, maybe the island is the place that is moving extremely fast and although it feels like it has only been a day since the island began time shifting, that its actually been much more? I have a lot of trouble imagining this time shifting effect going on for 3 years.

That's what I was discussing with drudo in the past thread. It would explain why Desmond didn't get the memory until much later. I really hope they don't experience years of time hopping.

oh woops, didn't see that jess. yeah, I definitely think we are all on to something with that. Otherwise, its getting be loopy...see what i did there?
the only thing that contradicts itself there is Locke being dead in LA at the time, when Desmond received that memory. There's no reason he should of received that memory conveniently 3 years later, unless it was somehow delivered at that time on the island. However, when Faraday gave him that memory, Locke was marching through the jungle -- not in LA doing his dick in the box move. Did the writers mess up somewhere?

I like when we come to the same conclusions. And thinking about these separate timelines and who's where and whatnot is now getting me confused.
Edit: Oh and Drew, this is thread VII.
i feel like the "left behinders" will only go through a few days of time traveling. as in they are in various times but in like 72 hours or so. but the "lets go backers" have been gone for 3 years or whatever. so like Narnia the time in each uh "world" will be totally different. like in the Narnia books the kids leave Narnia and when they go back it is thousand of years later. but on LOST it seems the opposite will happen where more time passes in the real world than it does on the island. i am basing this off an interview from Damon and Carlton as well when asked about the love quadrangle that will be going on haha

I need to read the Mirror Matter theory more often.
Jack or Widmore turns the wheel counter-clockwise on advice from Locke (maybe fixing the time problems)
Ben turns the wheel clockwise on advice from Christian (causing the time problems)

I know I wouldn't mind titles being posted prior, as long as there aren't any synopsis included before the ep. I still think we might have some complete purist out there who might get pet peeved at a title being posted prior though. I'd say to wait it out.

I've often thought about that theory, i feel like there has been mention that time on the island is different than the real world, shown in last season by the dead doctor and stuff. I definitely feel that both the left behind people and the people that have to go back are all happening at the same "time." used loosely haha

The whole comparison to Narnia is misplaced. I think it has more to do with entering "Narnia" in this case to find yourself in a different time period, not so much how time flows. I think Jack, Band and the rest will probably end up going through the "wardrobe" in this case being some kind of wormhole that finds the island in DHARMA times.

Some of the time transitions were awkward sure. But I felt it to be a lot better than Expose. With that said though I didn't hate Expose either. I give the writers a lot of credit when focusing on the other survivors who are there who aren't all important to the island. You have to address those people at some point. I think it was probably done the best though with Rose and Bernard on the S.O.S. episode. That was a great way of showing characters reaction to the island that didn't have some cosmic tie to it. Nikki and Paulo were a poor man's Rose and Bernard.

I love Rose and Bernard. They are the best.
Interesting fact about the S.O.S. episode: It's somewhat autobiographical on the life of the actress who plays Rose. She apparently had a husband who she met later in Life that ended up passing away soon after they met. A lot of that episode apparently used some of her personal experience with it. That really had a big impact on me the 2nd time I watched it.

To me Rose and Bernard complete the background of LOST for me. I know what you mean but it's nice to see them there. I'm curious though if they have anymore plans for them.
That's really cool their adapted her story into the series. I'm sure they will have a nice payoff in the end of the series.

09:00-10:06PM EST Lost
10:06-11:00PM EST Life On Mars
Lost will be extended by 4 minutes on this date and will end at 10:06 rather than 10:02. This is going to be a big episode in the storyline. Life on Mars will air with less commercials on that night.
Great news. I wish LOST were a hour and a half show.

You can't have Rose without Bernard. There's way too much fondness for those characters. I can see them having a well done ending.
Theory:
Olivia Godspeed said that there was a volcano on the island and it erupted a long time ago.
I'm thinking that if the flashes don't stop by the season finale, we will see the eruption on 5x17.
drudo182

Let's hope the flashes stop before then... I don't know if I want an entire season of that unless they start lasting longer.
With or without flashes, I still want that eruption with the main characters on the Island. It would be so phenomenal and epic.

I'm going to shoot this theory around again. I thought of it a few days ago and posted a tid bit about it in the last thread.
Basically, I feel like Ms. Hawking was not only finding where the island will be, but when the island will be as well. If our "lets go backers" are going to travel back to the island, I think its going to be really key for them to travel during a time where people are expected to be arriving. If they travel to a time where company isn't expected, they are going to be attacked, captured, or killed. However, if they arrive to the island during some time such as the beginning of the dharma initiative, they could easily be passed off as dharma recruits and continue on undetected.
positive/negative feedback and thoughts?

That's some very good thinking, Kevin. Because of the crazy fluctuations of both time and place on the island, there would probably be some good times for them to arrive and some really bad times to arrive due to all of the events that have taken place in the history of the island.

I'm thinking something along those lines.
I think that in the 70 hour time limit, Sawyer and the other stay-behinders will flash to the three years later point that Jack and the others are at. So, they need to get back to the island during the time between the flash when the Islanders get to that time period and the flash when they leave that time period to reallign the island (which, in my guess, is flashing around because it lost Jack's crew when it moved the island and is trying to correct that issue).
As for why they HAVE to get back then, maybe, according to Ms. Hawking's calculations, it will be the last time they flash into the same time period, or maybe if they don't get back before X amount of flashes, the island will be destroyed or destroy the world (like when the button had to be pushed).
Sounds plausible to me...Kate will just have to deal with Sawyer being three years younger.

I watched the episode again and think it's more likely that Widmore is Faraday's uncle rather than father. Just the way he said, "Shut up, Ellie" seemed kind of brotherly to me. That was even my first reaction when I heard him say that, but I set it aside after finding out he was Widmore. Anyways, I wouldn't like either of these to be true, too many family connections already, but if Widmore has to have a connection to Hawking aside from fellow Other, I say brother.

*Note the chick in the pic with Faraday at Oxford - are we to assume this is Theresa?
*Does Alpert visit Locke because Locke tells him to or because he's prophecized as a leader?
*Alpert keeps the compass. Is it the same compass that Locke DOESN'T choose? Maybe Alpert only wanted Locke to choose the compass so it would affirm what Locke said two year prior. Maybe it's not about destiny at all.
*Radiation=cancer.
*So, the Jughead/Swan connection doesn't entirely work. That concrete would NOT stop an h-bomb. Not enough concrete, not enough time.

TPTB intended to have it 16 episodes non-stop, but because of the strike we ended up with 14 hours, a month long break after Meet Kevin Johnson, and a small break before the finale. Yeah, the thing that made some of season 3's episodes less than stellar was due to the fact TPTB didn't have an end date and didn't know where they were writing to.
Good to know about the equation, I must of missed that in the previous thread.

I love the ending of Stranger. The music is beautiful.
I forget what the music/song was at the end of that episode. I forget which episode it is, but it's the one with a Blind Boys Of Alabama song at the end. I loved that moment, hah.
And then I love when Hurley is listening to "Are You Sure" by Willie Nelson on his CD player and the battery runs out.

As a few of you were talking about it earlier in the thread, I'm pretty sure Darlton said in some interviews that the time traveling thing will end before you know it, and they're not going to drag out the season. So, the last episode is not going to be Jack and gang coming back to the Island.

Just watched Jughead again.
*Alpert keeps the compass. Is it the same compass that Locke DOESN'T choose? Maybe Alpert only wanted Locke to choose the compass so it would affirm what Locke said two year prior. Maybe it's not about destiny at all.
I still don't know what to make of Richard's intentions, specifically of the test. Seeing Locke born affirms his story, but I don't know what to make of the rest, as far as Locke's potential leadership status. Richard and Locke's initial meetings in season 3 are much more interesting at this point... Locke's destiny with the island is still one of the more pressing things on my mind.
*Radiation=cancer.
Ben? I also like the idea of a link to the mothers deaths in child birth that someone on here posted.
*So, the Jughead/Swan connection doesn't entirely work. That concrete would NOT stop an h-bomb. Not enough concrete, not enough time.
I'm thinking more and more that Jughead will have a lot to do with the end of the show, specifically the "seismic importance" comment from Darlton. Sayid's comment about concrete and Chernobyl is a great connection, but I don't think the Swan has anything to do with Jughead. You actually see what is behind all that concrete in the LOST video game... but it isn't really canon is it?
*Who the fuck is Theresa?
good question.

I don't know about why they have to get back, but that idea of a brief sync in time makes a whole lot of sense. They've hinted that they won't drag out the '06 for the whole season, so hopefully those 70 hours go by fast.
There are definitely a few time periods I'd like to see explored, I really hope the flashes don't stop soon, or at least, that they don't return to the present for good... a least not for a while. If Jughead was any indication, the island stuff is going to get really good.

I think I like Locke more than Jack.
While Jack is who I would call the main protagonist of this show, as much as there could be one for LOST, I think Locke is the most important, and IMO interesting.
I think Locke has always been right about the island, about its importance to everybody. He has had the right intention from the start, while Jack, not so much. The fact that he will die for it says it all. Following faith is much harder than anything Jack had to do in getting off the island, thus I'm a bit more understanding of Locke's struggles. Of course, I probably would have done as Jack did. Locke's blind faith is as detrimental at points as Jack's complete lack of it.
Despite the past animosity, and while they may never get along, I think Jack will ultimately take a great deal away from the teachings of our John Locke.
I like both of their characters a great deal, and the balance between these two, science and faith, has always been one of my favorite themes. I hope they both find a balance by the end.

Early season 3 was absolutely awful, almost made me lose interest in the show. It turned around completely though
The early part of season 3 is probably the weakest part of the show so far. The first few episodes while being good really drag on a lot and Stranger in a strange land just wasn't good. But from that point on the show kept going up and hasn't come down since. Season 3 had a lot of important moments in the show.
I didn;t mind Expose that much either

Agreed completely.
Incidentally, I think "Eggtown" might be my least favorite episode. I dunno though. It's either that one or "Expose". just don't care for either one, to be honest.
Mid-season 3 completely turned around when they found the bus. Honestly, I was barely watching that episode because I was nearly done with the show and then I loved it and loved the next week too. After that the season took off and turned out as to be as good as season 1

Lindelof: All we can say is, whatever convention we’re using in the premiere episodes -- nothing in the show is season-long.
There are actually sort of three acts to the season. The first act is the first seven episodes, the second act is eight through 13, and the final act is 14 though 17. I think we can all assume the first act ends with the O6 getting to the island, but any ideas on the second two?

Remember when Locke found the drug plane and got the radio working way back in season 1? He said "I'm part of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815," and the guy on the other end, whoever it was, said "No, we're the survivor's of Oceanic Flight 815." Were those the Tailies and did I just miss that?

Exactly, at least you discuss things that end up being pretty close to what happens in the show. When me and my friends talk about it it just goes way off the radar turning out to be something really ridiculous, not even close to what could ever happen on the show, haha.
