Why are they getting a greatest hits?

I enjoy listening to them every once in a while but there are bands with more influence and others with much more talent I don't understand why Blink are huge.

Damnit
All the small things
what's my age again

i miss you

josie

first date

mutt
feeling this
i'm sorry

Because people can relate to their music. They came out at the right time, and did the right things.

Tracklisting will probably be:

What's My Age Again?
All the Small Things
Adam's Song
The Rock Show
Stay Together for the Kids
First Date
Feeling This
I Miss You
Down
Always
Josie
Damnit
M&Ms
Man Overboard

and the obligatory "new" song, which I wouldn't be surprised to see "Another Girl, Another Planet"

I normally would agree with you... most bands that release a Greatest Hits album are far from the posistion where they should release one. But in this case, I have absolutely no problem with it. They've released six full lengths (along with a couple dozen other tracks and a live album) in a career that spanned well over a decade. Not to mention, when Blink announced the hiatus, I saw dozens of kids say how they were the "gateway" band for them (as they were for me). They're plenty influential.

Probably because they've released five studio albums, been a band since 1992, and have influenced many young bands and musicians.

Ok, so maybe maybe you could argue the talent thing from a technical point of view (atlesat for mark and tom), but writing such catchy songs that millions of people love is far from easy. Even if you don't think so, they are very very talented song writers in that respect.

Furthermore, they are HUGELY influential. Think about how many kids on this site started listening to music, punk, or anything related cuz they heard that song "what's my age again" on the radio right after the backstreet boys. At least for me, they turned me on to a whole new area of music, and I wouldn't liek the bands I like now, or even be in a band and writing music, if it wasn't for them.

And that, my friend, is why blink 182 is huge, and they deserve to be there.

People who come into this thread and talk shit about blink have blink to thank for their even being an absolutepunk.net for them to bitch at. This site would cease to exist without them, therefore if they werent around you wouldnt have a place to spend your worthless lives complaining how Adam from TBS is a bitch or how "gay" kenny from the starting line looks with his long hair...time to take a step back and take into account whats important in your life and i know in my life its music and i have blink 182 to thank for that and if you are gonna complain complain to your cat cuz seriously no one around here cares

blink 182 has a lot of haters, but IMO they are true masters of making catchy sing along songs. its not as easy as it looks to make a song as memorable as theirs are. a lot of shitty pop punk bands try to do it and fail.

Whatever, there are better bands who COULD have inspired you. I stand by my comments that they aren't as great as people say. I don't care if you disagree, they're not. I don't care if you picked up guitar BECAUSE of them, you could have and would have started by some other band.

You must care to a certain degree because you're posting here again. And don't say "I don't care if you disagree, they're not." Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, don't state yours as fact.

it could've been any band...

and that band happened to be blink

face it...i too love bands that play techinical music or whatever, but when you dont know shit about playing an instrument. it just doesnt grab your attention...you dont realize what youre listening to. you dont realize that what (insert band thats considered musical geniuses) is playing, is something not too many people can do.

playing a blink song...most people can do. which grabs your attention, because not only is the music simple...but its also catchy and fun.

blink IS the gateway band...and they can do whatever they want.

they could probably re-release buddha, chesire cat, and dude ranch with travis on drums...and they will sell more than the originals
