The old lady's here again
With her thick tongue wagging,
Dress dragging,
Crazy notions fill her head,
She'll cry in the middle of the night
Because she's deaf;
And she's not cared for,
Her son is dead;
That was when her conscience
Took a dangerous u-turn and she fled
From everything that made sense;
She scavenged trash cans for hours
Turned over tables and broke plates,
Wrote long letters for days posted to some
Imaginary address,
Played the piano like a drunk
And let the weeds eat up her roses,
Spoke foul words in the morning
Took too many overdoses,
Chased the dogs of the neighbourhood away
Whenever they lay down to rest,
Slept on dirty park benches
With the pigeons on her chest.
She was called the mad woman by those
Who still professed to be sane,
Spat upon by the public that still
Professed to know shame.
