How is that selling out? Maybe it was just me but punks and jock we're like black and white. Not to mention they are playing NFL air time C'mon. No dad on a sunday wants to see that shit before a football game. Liek the NFL is trying to reach out to 13 yr old girls who middle school life is just so hard and miserable they listen to greenday and start wearing blakc eyeliner and..... Sorry I started to ramble. But you get the point

I totally agree with you, i used to have respect for green day a couple years ago, now every fuckin time i turn on the TV theyre doing an award show or getting interviewed on MTV, also would it kill them to change there setlist every couple shows, i mean theyve been doing the same shit for 5 years. They also submitted a song to madden and about every fuckin movie trailer in the past year.

all you kids with your preconceived punk notions and ethos need to check your own "credibility" at the door.
"how can the anti-war, compassionate godsend punks that blessed us last september with an amazing effort turn to the dark side and play for those who support this redneck agenda?" it's quite simple: they're not narrow-minded and morally pretentious.
i have maintained a very liberal view on politics and culture for as long as i can remember, yet i love football and many other sports. and believe it or not, i even have republican friends and family. in fact, probably 90% of my family is republican. if you spend your entire life disassociating yourself from those who have contrasting opinions, you will lead a very sad and unfulfilled life.
many of you seem to have this personal vendetta against the fundagelicals for their lack of tolerance and their paraded ignorance, however you fail to see the hypocrisy in your own stereotypes and generalizations. it's quite funny and equally disheartening to see how many self-proclaimed "liberals" are ignorant and intolerant of other view points.
so sit there behind your computer screen and talk shit on "sellout" bands all day. embrace your counterculturist ideals while you straighten your jet black hair and sit back and laugh at how hopelessly ignorant mainstream america is.
maybe someday you kids will understand that in the grand scheme of life, the only thing that really matters is the people that you love and care about and the people that return those feelings.

Thats an interesting point. I didnt realize that by enjoying watching a football game you were basically saying in support the war. Thanks for that heads up.
About Green Day, i wonder if they are actually playing at Gillette the night of the game, or if they are just gonna tape part of thier show from the saturday before which is at Gillette. In past years bands have played the NFL kickoff and werent at the venue to perform.

that's not what i'm saying ay all. however, take a survey on everyone in attendance at that game's opinion on the war. i guarantee you will find resounding support. these people don't want to hear anti-war songs and speeches. and they won't. green day will stick their tails between their legs, play a friendly song like boulevard of broken dreams or wake me up when september ends, and be done. they will leave probably thousands (maybe millions?) of dollars richer but with a muddled message and tainted integrity.

I would, what do you have to gain by playing that? They've got money coming out their fucking ears right now, why would they shit all over themselves just to get a few more bucks?

well said, by the way
it should also be noted that green day has been my favorite band since 1994, when i was 12 years old...and it kills me that they're compromising themselves to make a few extra bucks, but when i see a spade, i call it a spade

Fine, i'll bite
1. I don't have "punk ethos", but when a band actively comes out against a group of people, then caters to said people, I don't see that as not being narrow minded, I see it as being hypocritical...How is it not?
2. I'm not saying to love football, you have to be a bush loving redneck, but I have heard with my own two ears, Billie Joe slam "jocks", and "football players", and say that neither of the two have any place in punk rock...So what is "punk rock" about playing to an arena full of people who want you to get off the stage so they can see the game? Note: I love football, and can't wait for it to start
3. I'm not talking shit about a "sellout" band, because i've said, they've been my favorite band since I was 12 years old, i'm simply saying that i'm disappointed in the direction they're taking their band...obviously, it's their band, and they can do what they want with it, but i'm skeptical of their motives for doing things like this...that's it

this what is "punk" and not discussion is completely stupid and pointless. punk rock IS NOT sigining on with the nfl, it is not making poppy melodies, it is not being huge. a true form of punk rock doesn't exist in mainstream america. green day is not a punk band..punk influenced yes. give up the thought that punk rock exists on mtv, it does not. it's ok that it doesn't, but stop disgracing a scene that changed everything for all of us today.

buuut. I am getting so sick of Green Day. especially American Idiot and Holiday. those songs are EVERYWHERE. ahhhh. when your song is the center of a huge cell phone company's ad, that = sellout.
I was so excited for this CD, punk rock opera with long, original songs. they have like 3 long songs on this CD, and they compromised the rest of the CD so they could have 4 (and counting) radio singles. go away, green day
