they've effectively gone through all the relevant classic rock stars at this point haven't they? i have no clue, no one i like that is current seems big enough and i can't think of anymore classic rock musicians. the who would be cool i guess. pearl jam has their 20th anniversary next year but they'll never do it and they don't fit the bill.

Are you serious?
While on the subject, the Superbowl halftime acts will continue to be innocuous and ubiquitous radio hallmarks for the foreseeable future, considering just how frightened the network is of having another live and unpredictable disaster. It's much safer to book a universally known and beloved musician who's sold millions of copies of their records and lacks any sense of 'edge' or live-television danger.
Though the half-time show won't be heralded as particularly subversive in their choice of musicians, the show will continually be a staple of pop-culture and choosing relatively "safe," time-tested and house-hold names is a rather smart move.

How did you guys like the performance? My roommate didn't like it at all. I'm not a fan of the Boss, but it was at least a little enjoyable.
As for next year, it'll definitely be someone who kearn has described. I'd like to see Van Morrison.

eagles are too mellow, dmb aren't big enough anymore, no to mayer. foo fighters would be a good fit, they know how to hype up a crowd.

My dad wants Kanye West haha.
I could see Foo Fighters, I could also see DMB even if they have passed their popularity.
i dont want kanye to have the satisfaction of performing during the superbowl, his ego doesnt need that boost

Kanye is an amazing performer. He's probably the only rapper capable of handling the super bowl show.

While the Eagles are mellow they could do it if they played some of their more upbeat stuff ("Take It Easy","Life In The Fast Lane", ect). This will not happen because Frey and Henley are assholes and would surely find someway to screw it up, like fire Joe Walsh or something.
I think U2 would be a good choice. Who doesn't love a little U2?

A lot of fuckin people don't love U2. In fact, I have never came across someone that expressed anything above mediocrity towards them.

I don't dislike him. I don't understand the affection everyone seems to show to him, but he's not bad. I would never choose to listen to him, but I would never be annoyed by him either.

hahahn how do you not remember that? it's one of the more highly regarded ones, it was right after 9/11 and they had the names of all the victims scrolling behind them as they did MLK-->where the streets have no name. it was phenomenal.

For awhile after 9/11 I didn't watch a lot of television, so I'm guessing that's probably why I didn't remember.

The Who, maybe? The only solo act I could think of them getting would be Bowie, which would be weird.
Hopefully anybody but Nickelback or some country artist.

Prince was odd enough... but I'm trying to think of a classic artist... and I'm coming up empty.
Stevie Wonder? Would be cool, but dunno if it'd work. The Who seem reasonable to me... maybe AC/DC, since I assume their tour for the new album will be coming to a close around that time.

hmm theres' a difference between who i want..and who's a possibility...
- Billy Joel
- Green Day (new album)
- The Who
- Bob Dylan
- Elton John
- David Bowie
- aerosmith
- clapton
- ac/dc
- Black Sabbath
my guess...hmmm.....I feel like Billy Joel is due, but how many old white guys in a row can they pick. The Superbowl is in Jacksonville, my guess is they go youthful, so ill take the long shot with Green Day.

Elton John or Billy Joel would be cool... however, most of their songs don't exactly fit a big Halftime Show.
Aerosmith ruined their chances when they performed with Nelly, Britney and NSYNC.
Clapton could work, only if he makes sure to play his hard-rocking material -- "Layla," "Crossroads," "White Room" could work.
Green Day might just be too "punk" for the NFL. The band might be too controversial or whatever for the league, since they're all a bunch of pussies.

I agree with you on everything but Green Day - it really depends on the direction of their new album and how well that's recieved. I doubt a Green Day performance will happen anytime soon. Maybe when Billie Joe's 59.

True, true -- I just know how old-fashioned the NFL can be, and Green Day might be too threatening to them.
To be honest, I think they would fit nicely -- enough people know who they are and it would bring a tad of edge and grit to the show.

The Who seems like the best response so far. I would love to see them do a halftime show.
The Boss' performance was great. He was so out of breath from running around the who time, he could barely sing!

i dont think the "foo" are big enough to tell you the truth. i feel like the foo fighters would play at like, the NBA all-star game haha.
Billy Joel is i think perfect. I dont believe he's to mellow, we just had Paul McCartney a few years back.
