Anyone else interested in the Russian language and culture?

Russian involvement in WWII and the February and October Revolutions are really interesting. I own a few pieces of Russian history myself.

I started taking Russian 1 (along with French and Italian) here in Germany this semester, but the class format pissed me off, so I stopped going like a month ago. Not that it really mattered, there wasn't even an exam or grade for the class. Sigh. I'd definitely still like to learn the language, though.

Oh, wicked! I would have stayed in the class. I took German 1 last semester in school. It was good. We don't have Russian, so that sucks.

I have a crush on a cute russian exchange student I talk with who sits next to me in my senior seminar class. I also spent 8 days in Minsk in 2005. Do I count?

Seriously though, I read tons of Dostoevsky.

I love to read about Russian history, particularly about the czars. Ivan The Terrible was a douche bag.

There are lots of hot Russians, in general. When I was in Minsk I think I saw like only 6 or 7 truly unattractive girls/women under the age of 40. It's because cars and public transportation all sucked there, so everyone walked. I had the craziest blisters by the end. I don't know why I thought brand new chucks and combat boots were the best things to take on a trip.

My sister may take it in college. If I didn't take Arab and Islamic studies I'd probably be doing Russian studies right now.

I enjoy Russian literature. Crime and Punishment is my favorite book by far.

For fans of Russian lit, here are the good ones I've read.

Crime and Punishment
The Idiot
Brothers Karamazov
The Double <--- this one's actually not that great
The Possessed
A Day in The Life of Ivan Denisovitch
Lolita (well, Russian author, but he wrote it in English)

The Brothers Karamazov is the only book worth reading, ever.

After you read it, all other reading is pointless.

I'm really interested in late Russian history. But that's about it. Not so much the language.
