New Orleans and other areas of the south have been devistated by Hurricane Katrina. Let's show 'em some love and help out. The American Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org/) is responding. If you know of other relief efforts, please post them in the comments.

I live in Baton Rouge (1 hour away from New Orleans), and my sister's boyfriend had just started med. school in new orleans. My mom teaches elementary school in Alexandria (about 3 hrs. north of New Orleans). Her principal said that about 15,000 people will be coming to Alexandria, and her school and a few others will have to take these kids in. This disaster will affect everyone in this country one way or another. This is very big deal, and I'm not asking you to donate, because I know not everyone wants or is able to, but prayers and good thoughts can help just as much. Just thought I'd put that out there.

Here's one of many news stories (http://www.wwltv.com/local/stories/083005cccawwlevac.43bb0409.html). More at CNN (http://www.cnn.com) and FOX (http://www.foxnews.com). The city is for real about 80% covered with water, still thousands of people stranded throughout the city. Access to food and water are huge issues right now... imagine if the city you lived in ceased to have water because the pipes broke and food ran out 'cause it was all washed away or looted. I just hope we can get enough help there in time for the people affected.
Here's a direct link to the redcross donation page (https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp).
Hell, if you're down there in the area, perhaps you can donate some time or food instead. I'd go myself if I could.

That was over 150,000 dead compared to about 200 from early estimates from Katrina. Plus those areas of the world are poverty striken and w/o the help would never recover. We are the number one world power for a reason, we can take care of ourselves. I'm sure many people from overseas will be generous and donate, but I wouldn't expect any sort of response like there was for the Tsunami, it's just not the same situation.

Shame on anyone that evacuated. I know that, among the cowardly, was my very own bandmate Shane Hennessey. I shouldn't call him a coward actually, he was going to stick it out until his school (loyola) forced him to leave. I don't see why he would want to leave, it seems much more enjoyable to be in a building that is having its buoyancy tested with no power. Anyone who left just doesn't know how to have a good time, bottom line.

man i went through the three hurricanes that blew through florida last year and I thought Charlie was bad as like a category three. I cant imagine having to deal with a category five. Not having power and dealing with temperatures in the ninety's while having to go through all of your ruined things and clean up debris is one of the most miserable things to do. not having water or ice is terrible too. my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who was affected by the storm. i wish i knew how to help, but im poor.
not to sound stupid, but i feel bad for all the kids who have to miss school because they are going to be out forever and if they are forced to make up the time, which i hope they dont have to, will be miserable way down the road when life is back in order and school is in full swing.

There are people that stayed who will die because of that decision. It ain't cool and it ain't funny. I wouldn't call valuing your life and leaving cowardly. It's the smartest thing to do and in the long run saves a lot of effort for everyone involved. Those who left won't have to survive without water, food, electricity, or gas. I'd like to see anyone reading/posting to this forum try it. I know I wouldn't be too thrilled with the notion. Honestly, no internet, how could anyone live? Oh, wait, I need to find dinner first.
As somebody mentioned, this is not nearly as bad as the tsunami overseas, but this is about as bad as it gets in terms of natural disasters in America. I don't think we should be bashing anyone or calling anyone cowards but rather responding to the needs of everyone involved in the situation as much and as quickly as we can.

sarcastic, joking, or what the fuck ever. this isnt the time/place/whatever. fuck off.
this is fucking horrible man, i saw the news after i got home at school. up until 7pm i was totally fucking unaware so much happened in one day. no one said anything at school, and i was a little disappointed to find out that no one cared enough to share info about this.

You're very arrogant. You are stupid for even comparing the two. I mean don't get me wrong, it was horrible. But not nearly the same situation.
