This is a fucking horrible idea.

From FilmWad.com

Dean Parisot has been set to direct remak of classic hockey comedy Slap Shot. According to Variety, Peter Steinfeld is writing the script that Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.

The original starred Paul Newman as the fading player/coach of a minor league hockey team. Trying to hype the Charlestown Chiefs for a possible move South, the coach ramps up interest by turning his team into a group of brawling thugs.

When Steinfeld took the writing job and spoke about it last summer, Internet pundits were critical of the notion of updating a favorite sports film. Yet such nostalgic resistance certainly did not hurt "The Longest Yard, remake, a global hit that grossed far more than the original.

They've already made sequels in recent years.

They forgot that the new Longest Yard was absolutely terrible and the only reason it made money was because they smacked Adam Sandler on it.

I think they wanted Mike Ricci for that film. Only he could have saved it.

A remake would only be good if Paul Newman was in it. But he can't, so they shouldn't make it.
