/random music-related ultimatum which will lead to a chat thread and/or home for irrelevant arguments

but seriously, between the complex choral-influenced multiple-layer vocal arrangements, mix of both symphonic and rock-based instruments into an R&B/pop setting, and atypical chord progressions and melodies (including the key change in the bridge which also contains more vocal innovation), i would be very surprised if someone could find me a more well-written song that remained on american top 40 radio in the last 9 years, for a decent amount of time.

I always preferred 'Crazy', but 'Kiss From a Rose is good too. What do you guys in the States have on the radio just now? I barely listen to it over here in the day.

a bunch of songs with the same chord progression and in "different genres", which really just means produced by different producers and with a different image attached to them.

every kanye song where he was a rapper that was a single is better than this. and that's just off the top of my head.

There's this crazy dance sensation going around right now with the tune "Macarena". Look out for it. Annoyingly catchy.

yeah, he sampled other songs which millions of other rappers do/did. they're still extremely well produced

meh, i'd still take seal over him. what hes doing/done is better than half the stuff on that level of popularity though.

He has a great ear for samples but that's really it.. he's not an amazing producer to be honest..

How can you honestly say that when you obviously havent given a listen to Kanye's stuff?

yes i have? ive only heard his rap stuff on the radio (which got played a lot by the way, and its what my mom puts on in the car) but the new album ive heard start to finish in my dad's apartment, he loves it. even with the intentional abuse of autotune i don't mind it, whereas i cant stand most of the other stuff on typical radio stations these days.

Well, Im sorry I assumed since you essentially described him as that dude who samples. Pretty ignorant statement. Just sayin.

theguy77

why is that ignorant? it's true, that wasnt meant to be an insult most rap producers do it to an extent

Because believe it or not, there is an art to what he samples/produces. You make it sound like what he does is no different then Puff Daddy. Pdiddy. Whatever he's calling himself these days.

All Kanye does is finds a good sample, speeds it up, then loops it..

That's ALL he does? Broad generalization. "Homecoming", "Big Brother", etc. Have NONE of the sort. And that's just off the top of my head.

Really that's all that keeps his beats interesting. The samples. He has an amazing ear for samples though.
Didn't listen to graduation more than once or twice to be honest and I think both of those were on it. The lyrics were too horrendous for me to give it more of a chance production wise.

Kiss from a Rose is good but I doubt it is the best.

exactly, i dont even think it trumps the 90s let alone all the amazing radio hits that came in the 70s and 60s (and probably 80s but i know that decade the least well, i always associate it with either "classic" rock or the time when synth driven pop got popular, hence why i dont pay attention to it haha)
