okay, this is officially fucking ridiculous.

gas prices went up by 50c in one fucking day. one fucking day? are you kidding me. these numbers don't even make sense.

do you realize that the federal gov't makes 39.4c per gallon and state gov'ts collect close to 30c more? i think it's time that the government declare a state of emergency and take the 70c/gal loss.

i know that this is all due to the hurricane and so forth, but there've been hurricanes in the gulf before, and it's never caused this kind of trouble. about a year ago, there were oil refineries closed, for NO GOD DAMN REASON. did you know that? probably not, because it was less important on cnn than "GOD HATES GAYS" and "SCOTT PETERSON, MURDERER?"

techincally but not really.

opec is not at fault so much as we are at fault for being so relient on opec.

the fact of the matter remains that the government is collecting 70c/gal on our gasoline which has now soared to obscene levels.

my hope is that it will go back down after this horrible disaster.

Gasoline in Europe costs about 1.50 euro per liter... now that is fucking ridiculous

dont think so?... how about the fact that there are 4 liters in a gallon

1.50 x 4 = 6

and that is euros bitch... which is

6 x 1.20 = $7.20

in conclusion, quit your bitching

This is one of the reasons why I decided not to drive right away. I'd have to get a job, beg my parents for money, etc. Well I'd probably be doing that if gas was a lot less like it should be but you know what I mean. (I'm 16 by the way)

Yeah, it's really retarded. I know.

corn and other agriculture products are traded in a similar manner. the market is in chicago I believe. It is a way for people to hedge risks in purchasing large quantitiesin the future. Id explain it better, if i understood it better.

08/31/05, 01:13 PM
Its 2.79 around here. I came out of school and there's two gas stations across the street from one another and the 'more expensive' one was 2.85 so I knew as soon as I could see the Sheetz price I would shit myself. Needless to say, I did.

There is so much wrong with the US that leads to this that I don't even want to get into..

Quick Solution: drive a smaller car, walk, etc. You don't need an H2 to drive to the store at the end of your block. I know that that's an exaggeration for most people, but think of how much money you waste by being slightly lazy.

I think if it shoots up more, a few more states will jump and follow what Hawaii did, or tried to do (I'm not sure if they succeeded or not, I didn't follow up wiht it), with a price cap on it.

I make somewhat decent money and don't have too many bills, and this kills me. I can't imagine how hard it must be on some people.

That's why states will attempt to cap it. Gasoline prices, right now, are a huge part of the price we pay for everything because of transportation (not just ourselves, but everything we buy) and the way our society is set up.. When gas prices go up, the entire consumer price index shoots up, and everyone's scraping to get by with their current lifestyles.

Matty, what's gas up there? On the Tuscarora Reservation, where it's usually 25-40 cents lower a gallon than off the reservation, it's 2.86, but in the two in my village, it's 2.86 and 2.74

I have no idea. The last time I bought gas, my mom let me use her CC as a going away present, and I haven't emptied the tank yet, or driven past a gas station.

Not to mention the rich oil barons (*cough*GEOGRGEWBUSH*cough*) that get a big cut of that profit every time some poor helpless young punk kid fills up at the tank with his dishwashing money from Pizza Hut.

Skipping the Bush call, I think everyone assumed that. Usually people are in business to make a profit, which entails them taking their cut.

In Europe gas is so expensive.
in europe a big amount of the cost of gas goes towards taxes which in turn goes towards state health care and other good things.
