the road is home

from michigan to the other side of the states
and back again to another coast, another different place
this is where i hope to find my way
i always seem to be traveling alone
and soon i’ll find my home
because i’ve grown old of the one i used to love
and every new city will bring a different face
one that i will embrace
and i’ll find my place

a best friend in a state i can’t name
let alone the city for the past years that she’s been in
it seems that i’m so far away from everything
not just where i’ve been but how my state of mind is
i’ve left many things behind
and have been wandering throughout my head
and playing with the ideas and the thoughts running out of me
maybe i need to keep moving on
and finally find a song to keep me awake for the drive

all i see are city lights
i’m fine with things passing before my eyes
but soon it will have to slow down
i’m fine with passing through every town
a building or two is all i need
then i’ve seen everything
i’ll pass by the places to stay
all the homes i haven’t made
and you’ll keep on driving

every night i hear a new song
another voice to sing along
a new face to finally meet
though i’m not quite on my feet
and though this is the life you are living
i’m following along to find out where i need to be
i am only waiting for the right city to come and find me
then i’ll be on my way
probably across these growing states

i’ve been over and over again
from coast to coast and land
a different setting each new night
another face to search and find
someone else i’m destined to meet but they’re just not for me
and maybe i’ll find a place
finally a place to stay
and if somehow i can’t find it stopping from the road
maybe the road will be a suitable home
