I'm with you 100%. I did like Mallrats too though...

Mallrats was good, but I'd probably rank it as the worst of the View Askewniverse movies.

Also, fuck you guys, I liked Jersey Girl.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back followed by Dogma.

My list would be:
1. Clerks
2. Mallrats
3. Clerks 2
4. Chasing Amy
5. Zack and Miri
6. Dogma
7. Jay and Silent Bob

All fantastic. I'm hearing Kevin Smith do a Q&A session on Saturday, should be hilarious.

Despite my affinity for Dogma being the first flick of his I saw, and the nostalgia for Clerks and Mallrats as being movies I watched over and over again when I was younger, Clerks II is probably my favourite. I've watched it more times in a shorter span of time than any other movie, and it remains the one of the most consistently funny and entertaining comedies I've seen. Plus, it actually manages to get the poignant moments to work, which I think is something that Zack and Miri failed at.

But I love everything the man has done. I even think Jersey Girl gets way more hate than it deserves. So pumped to see him on Friday.

Saturday was sold out by the time I went to get tickets, luckily they added the Friday show, so I was on that shit like white on rice and snagged two floor seats.

Chasing Amy just because it's a really fucking good movie, but his comedies like Clerks 2, Zak and Miri etc are the ones I'm more likely to watch more because they're so funny.

Chasing Amy is the only one I haven't seen and that's primarily noted as his best. Here's my list:

1. Clerks
2. Clerks II
3. Zack and Miri
3. Mallrats
4. Jay and Silent Bob
5. Dogma

Something like that.

jay and silent bob strikes back would've been 1000x better if they left in all the lesbian stuff. purely for the hilarity/awesomeness. but still not near as good as clerks.

you really really wanted to vote for Jersey Girl? or are you just being one of those typical AP kids who always likes to point out missing options, even though its almost ridiculous to have it on there.

although Ben Affleck's, "You ruined my life you piece of shit" to a little girl= best line in any movie ever

I have almost 45K posts, of course I'm a typical AP kid.

Anyway, I put Dogma.

I would say Clerks, but instead I'll say I'm still bitter that he cancelled his Q&A at Miami because of the Zack and Miri premiere, therefore making me hate that film on principle.

Full thing:

Dogma > Chasing Amy > Clerks II > >Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back > Clerks > Mallrats

Yes I liked Clerks 2 better than the original.

Have yet to see Zach and Miri, unfortunately.

Love em all. Gotta be Chasing Amy though, Silent Bobs monologue at the end-ish is fucking great.

Since when do so many people like Clerks II so much? Weakest next to jersey girl imo.

Finally saw all of these, don't know what my hold up was, I pretty much loved them all. If I had to rank them...
1. Dogma
2. Mallrats
3. Clerks
4. Chasing Amy
5. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
6. Zach and Miri
7. Clerks 2

I found Clerks 2 to be really weak compared to the first one..a bit too predictable. Randal was still awesome though.

His best film is Clerks II. Best script is Chasing Amy. Zack and Miri Make a Porno, though, showed his incredible maturity (as a director) and really proved he can actually direct.

My ranking, though? Hm. As a huge fanboy, that's hard.

1. Clerks II/Clerks. (tied)
2. Z&M
3. Mallrats
4. Dogma
5. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
6. Cop Out
7. Jersey Girl
8. Chasing Amy

I seem to be one of the only people who finds it difficult to watch Clerks II purely because the unfathomable awfulness of Brian O'Halloran's (Dante) acting. It is without question some of the worst acting I have ever seen (not that he was good in any other Kevin Smith film). That and the unbelievable cheesiness of the emotional dialogue towards the end.

Randal saves that film for me. Jay also gets some amazing moments.

I would say Chasing Amy is the best written of the films.

Great film. Brilliantly written, incredibly acted. Zero re-playability for me. The list I made was my list, not what I feel is best. I'm a big KS fan ... so his #8 is still way up in my book.

Honestly though, I really am a fan of pretty much all of his work, hard to pick a favorite film, y'know? Part of me wants to say Mallrats, another Zack & Miri, or even Clerks, those are probably my three favorites. Still didn't see the buddy-cop film, don't really plan on it. But yeah, expecting good things from Red State, hopefully

i was just about to post that i assume you're just a huge kevin smith fan in general. i hear ya.

i like him much more than i like his movies. great public speaker, great mind when it comes to the business and how he handles himself, and just a guy i really respect. but i've really only truly loved like 3 movies of his. but i always give him the benefit of the doubt and see whatever he puts out.

I refuse to participate if Jersey Girl is left out. Not my favorite (that goes to Clerks II) but I'd put it in my top 4 easily. It's a damn good film that catches too much shit...I'm just a guy who'd rather play in the dirt with his kid

This is a super tough list for me to make, but I guess if I had to chose it would go something like this:

1. Chasing Amy
2. Clerks
3. Mallrats
4. Dogma
5. Clerks 2
6. Zack and Miri
7. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
8. Jersey Girl
9. Cop Out

Chasing Amy and Clerks are really, really close for me, but the script for Chasing Amy puts it slightly higher in my book. Cop Out didn't do much for me, but I'll have to watch it again, otherwise everything is super close. I love the man's work.

1. Clerks
2. Chasing Amy
3. Clerks 2
4. Zack and Miri Make a Porno
5. Dogma
6. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

8. Jersey Girl

I actually really like Jersey Girl. I haven't watched it near as many times as his other films, but I enjoy it. I especially love any scene with George Carlin.

09/08/10, 10:40 PM
Mallrats is one of my favorite comedies ever....so its an easy choice for first, but second would be tough. Clerks and Chasing Amy are about equal, the writting in Amy is far superior but i like the amatuerish-simple feel of Clerks.

1. Mallrats
2. Chasing Amy
2. Clerks
4. Clerks Cartoon (write in)
5. Dogma
6. ...make a porno
7. Jersey Girl
8. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

....Clerks 2 was garbage and doesn't warrant inclusion and i haven't seen Cop Out.

I went with Clerks for the DIY element and classic aspect.

I like all of his movies though. I even like Jersey Girl. George Carlin was great in that and Ben Affleck isn't that bad of an actor - especially in Kevin Smith films.

Chasing Amy>Dogma>Clerks>Mallrats> Jay and Silent Bob> Clerks 2> Jersey Girl

Put me in the camp of people who don't mind Jersey Girl, clearly not his best, but decent. Still haven't seen Zach and Miri or Cop Out, though I havn't heard good things about either. Decided to bump this because I recently rewatched Mallrats and Chasing Amy.Forgot how much I love both. Amy in particular will probably always stand out as my favorite, Affleck's monologue in the car is one of my favorite scenes in any movie, quality stuff.

Is that so? My friends and a few podcasts I listened to thrashed it pretty hard when it first came out, but if people rank it up there with Chasing Amy I will definitely have to re-consider looking into it. Cop Out isn't some kind of masterpiece, is it?

Cop Out doesn't even feel like a KS movie, as he didn't write it. If you think about it as just a run-of-the-mill buddy-cop action movie and not a Kevin Smith movie, you'll enjoy it. I like it.

Wasn't aware he didn't write it. Not a big turn on since that's definitely his strong suit. I don't know much about directing but nothing he has ever done has particularly stood out to me. I don't see how people can say he's a "terrible" director, there just isn't really anything that makes him unique. I'll definitely look into Zack and Miri, though. Thanks for the tip.

Clerks is a definitely a classic, but Chasing Amy is by far his best work. It made me believe that Ben Affleck had a future in acting.
