View Full Version : How can Goblet of Fire be good?

Let's be honest...the Harry Potter movies suck ass compared to the books. Heck, they suck ass in general. They literally give hickeys to peoples asses, that's how bad they are. How can the creators of this movie possibly make it better considering it will be the same length as the others when the book is double the length of the others? The first three were bad enough with what they cut out...I can't wait to see how they butcher this.
On an unrelated note, I was scrolling the list of post icons and I came across the band "Funny" and I'm like who the hell are they. Yeah, it's late.

Because as long as enough people like it to keep J.K. Rowling swimming in her Olympic sized swimming pool filled with money, they can make a harry potter movie with a video phone and get away with it. and it could very well be good. jk.

what the FUCK are you talking about? The movies have been continuously better as they've gone on...

I think it might be pretty cool. The other ones weren't that bad.

I don't know. A lot of my beef with those movies is based on Daniel Radcliffe's poor acting ability. Visually, they are really nice movies but without all the crazy sets and effects it would be more apparent that it isn't too stunningly acted.

Well you have a point but those sets and everything are really all you would want anyway right? I mean it's a fantasy book, fantasies are all about creating different worlds and stuff, that's the point.

Agreed...they have gotten better. However, they still suck. I don't see them pulling this movie off without taking out a lot of the subtleties that make Harry Potter such a great series.
I bet Narnia will be better.

Yeah, I CANNOT wait 'til Narnia...C.S. Lewis was a true genius.

The books are so much more than general fantasy because it's rooted in a subdivision of our world. So while it takes place in the "wizarding community," there's still a human basis. It's not a completely different plane like Middle-Earth or Narnia. The point of any novel is to get a story across, not to prove that you can create a different world regardless of if it's fantasy or not.

Agreed. By the way, good review of Chroma.

I'm glad that they're finally making a serious effort for the chronicles of narnia. Does anyone know if they plan to do the whole series, or just TLTWATW (Even though it is probably just that one since it's, after all, the second book)?

You don't need to explain the point of a novel to me. I'm just saying, you wouldn't watch Star Wars if it wasn't in outer space would you? If all those things happened on Earth it would hardly be interesting. But because an entire new UNIVERSE, in this case, was created the story has much more meaning. I'm not saying all Harry Potter is is props, I'm just saying without it there wouldn't be much of anything.

Point taken. What I'm saying is that though most of the people who have not read the books will probably find a lot to like about it, those that have come to cherish the series will be disappointed by everything that they're inevitably going to have to take out. I mean, *SPOILER* the dragon triwizard scene didn't take that long in the book but they're probably going to draw it out to make it more dramatic while some seemingly minor scene will get cut.

Yeah I agree, but books all ways end up being better than the movie, it's just the way things are. But I don't see movies as a way to replace the book, I just look at it as a different interpretation. I try not to look at the movie as compared to the book but as a movie. They're good movies overall if you're looking at them from that point of view. But of course comparing to the books they're going to come up subpar

Pretty positive they're doing an honest attempt at the entire series...don't know what's gonna happen with The Magician's Nephew, though...maybe it'll be released as a "prequel" eventually...

Emma Watson that's why.

The first two movies were nearly word for word with the book.

i cant wait til the movie is released because it will be amazing, and all these pussies who can't understand that everything in a book can't be translated into a film will be crying all over the place.
let's get real. if you don't like the films, don't see them and stick to the books and your "imagination". quit griping on someones adaption. if you can do it better, then do it. quit being douche bag and complaining becuase it does nothing. douche bag.

Goblet of Fire was going to be two films, back when Columbus was still directing.
But then this new guy came along and was like, "No, too much. One movie. Thanks."
uh oh smmoreo

But Hermione is smokin.
That's why anyone really sees the movies anyway.

it would have been better in two movies i think.. but then again it would have been strange to go see the same movie twice, you know?

I don't really like Harry Potter movies. They take your imagination away and its hard to understand. Emma Watson is going to be gorgeous in that movie though.
