I busted out my Blink182 (http://www.blink182.com) music collection (it's quite large) tonight, and now I just wanted to express my love for this band. They're the reason this website exists. If you're a fan, I suggest breaking out the albums and giving them a few spins. I have memories attached to almost every song (I'll never forget breaking up with a girl by playing her "Untitled" in my car; dead serious).

thanks for remembering a lot of people of the good old times. blink are my musical roots and itīs sometimes so refreshing to return to them. I know it sounds stupid but I guess a lot of people will agree when I say there is always a place in my heart and soul made for and by blink. itīs not only their music. itīs their characters and their history which makes them that great. :( *sigh*

Chesire cat is my favorite album of all time.period. Anything pre dude ranch was amazing.

i definitely feel you all, blink had a deep impact on me. however, i think for the older (21-22+) members on this site, green day was probably bigger. my guitar style is taken from both bj and tom. brain stew was the first song i learned on guitar, while all the small things was the first song i figured out on guitar.
and as far as breaking up to music... i once had a girl (dated for over 2.5 years) bitch at me for the duration of a less than jake cd (b&b) in my car, only to find out near the end of the cd (around 1989 or last hour...yeah, that's how much attention i was paying to her) that she had been fuckin a 28 year old (she was 18). and then she got aids and died. ;)

Wow bro, I'm so happy you made this post. Blink 182 is the reason I got into music, and their material has gotten me through the toughest times of my life. Like you said, EVERY Blink song has meaning to me. Many people judge them by their crazy antics, but if you really listen to the words you'll find that they are creative geniuses... this is why they have sold so many albums. I will always love Blink and I am forever grateful for their inspiration in my life.

I'm 20 almost 21 and Blink is impacted me way more then Green Day. Brain Stew is good, but the guitar is nothing original and merely a sample.

I totally agree. Its the same for me (and so many other people). They're the band that got me into this kind of music in the first place and I've had so many awesome times (and bad times) with blink as the soundtrack. We'll miss them but i dont think its really the end. I mean with plus 44 and whatever Tom is doing, I think theres gonna be plenty of great music by the guys to keep us happy.
Anyway, happy fuck a dog day everybody, and long live Blink!!

all i'm saying is that there was a time that green day/offspring/rancid were all over mtv, and that was before blink. so for the older crowd, when they were hitting their teens, those bands were probably bigger influences and/or gateway bands. when i was hitting junior high, these were the bands that were out. blink didn't get their huge mainstream success for another 3-4 years (tying into some of the late teens on this site.) it's all relative to age.
and all i was saying by the guitar reference is that both bj and tom had an influence on me. and if you by any means think that somehow tom has is a far more "original" guitarist than bj, you are sorely mistaken. they are right on par with each other, with billy being the much better live guitarist. i don't think any guitarist would dispute that with me.

Thank you, my friend pointed out that one Blink song(forget which one sorry they have too many) is just the same chord over and over until about 2 minutes in where it slightly changes. Not that Green Day don't have their share of songs like that either but you can't say that Tom is a much better guitarist then Billy Joe cause it's not true.

Nope it is true, go back and listen to Tom's guitar parts on Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch they were pretty sick. Plus he's a genius at writing simple yet incredibly catchy guitar lines, where as Green Day hasn't written one guitar line that is as catchy as say... What's My Age Again or Dammit (I know not difficult guitar parts, but still so catchy).

and as for comparing the two. bj can actually and does play full chords and he can solo live. tom's "sick licks" on the first two albums are in all actuality not that difficult. like take m&m's. it sounds hard, but it's just a bunch of hammer-on's and pull-off's on the high e string....not terribly difficult. as for who's more "catchy", that's a personal opinion, but i don't think you can put one ahead of the other. it seems that you're basing tom's "catchiness" off the fact that he actually plays riffs on a bunch of songs, which hardly is a valid reason as they are quite simple riffs.

twhile i might have grown out of pop punk a little bit, one of my favorite memories is sitting in the front row for a blink/nfg/alkaline trio show at the marcus amphitheater. this band, and enema of the state, will always hold a special place in my heart. now lets just hope they keep things going and all this talk done by travis is just that.

but yeah it was definitely Blink for me. i remember back in 2002 searching around for punk sites and stumbling across this website all because i was in love with blink and wanted to find other music that sounded like them. then i got hooked on posting at blink-182online (or travisbarker.com as it was first known). everything i love in music i owe to them.

it's coincidence - 'cause it's playing in my stereo right now!
i have created bonds and relationships because of how the music of blink-182 affected us kids.
i remember the time when there was the PoP Disaster Tour w/ green day in madison sq. garden...i didn't have a credit card awhile back so i didn't get to buy presale tickets...i told my friend to go to tower records at 4 o'clock in the morning for tickets (the day of public sale)...we were there with our dads of course the first people there...sadly when we got to the venue, our seats were on the way up to the top row close to the roof...we were dumbasses...but you know what - i thought it was hilarious!!! after that i haven't gone to any of those stadium venues, but yet that time when we were awoke at 3 am & 4am is what i cherish the most.
Though i met Tom Delonge somewhere in California before this so.

sooo many blink memories for me.
my best memory though was the dollar bill tour. We couldnt get tickets online so me and my two friends snuck out at 2 in the morning and took a cab to boston where we waited for about 10 hours to get tickets. Then the next day was homecoming so it was a good 48 hours of no sleep. All worth it thought just to see blink. Thanks Blink

green day, lagwagon, and nofx got me into this music... but blink still fucking rocks
Blink is the reason I'm on this site right now (much before my 2002 join date, which still seems crazy to me). It was updated more frequently then their own official site (good work J). I was in 7th grade in '95 and yeah we were into Green Day, Offspring, Rancid, NOFX, and the obligatory Op Ivy's Energy album. Then I remember around the same time in '95 watching MTV and seeing short clips of Warped Tour bands, and 2 stuck out in my mind - Blink playing M&M's, and Unwritten Law playing Superman. I went to our local indie music store (yea we used to be soo scene..) and got Chesire Cat and Oz Factor. Here I am now at 23 with different musical tastes and expectations, but man did those albums rock, and it's great when bands grow up with you and release better albums musically, i.e. Blink's S/T and Here's to the Mourning. I have to say that overall my fav Blink album is Take off Your Pants...

i'm gonna agree with those emphasizing blink's influence over today's music scene. i'm 22 so i was into green day way back when dookie came out, but they were always an off and on band for me. they'd release an album or a new single and i'd be into it then lose interest when everyone starting trashing them again (teenagers can be so fickle). sublime was the first band i got into hard, but they just led me to listen to more sublime. blink was the first band that i fell in love with and led to me seeking out other similar bands. i can also see the influence they've had on this site (which has more weight in the music industry than most of us would like to give it credit for). i'm one of the few users who can remember when it was a blink/mxpx fansite (here's some trivia, this was the first place to post pictures of all three members' girlfriends), and i remember checking the site frequently when it made the transition to the ab punk you know now, to see if my favorite blink site was back up yet. favorite album: take off your pants and jacket (admit it, it's by far the catchiest). favorite song: adam's song.

I know most people believe that, the kids who think their the shit Just because they know like one fall out boy song and all of the sudden they are big fans(like the 12 year old girl ones is what im saying)

as it seems a lot of others on this site do, i love blink 182... its probably the least hip thing to possibly say these days, but i can see through all the things they suck so badly at (ex. incorporating any talent into their songs) and appreciate them. they were the first band i ever liked and the fact that there is still even a shred of relevance to me today is absolutely amazing... they are a truly timeless band and im not ashamed to have them stacked next to all my other cds, all of whcih would be considered a million times more credible... they document a time in any kids life and never deny the fact that they are just a wee bit immature (im sorry, ben wah balls is still funny), these things make them different from most bands, theyre not gonna surprise us with a political record thats only worth a quarter of the attention it gets (american idiot), theyre gonna stay blink 182, or they were going too... either way, they left a legacy, even if its shrouded with bathroom humor and 3 minute opuses to sexual jungle noises.

in being in several bands and jamming with lots of different guitarists (i play drums), i have come to the conclusion that it is impossible to pick up a guitar without playing the riff from dammit.
haha. i was thinking the same thing. every guy ive ever met whos tried to impress me with his guitar skills always plays that

theyre not gonna surprise us with a political record thats only worth a quarter of the attention it gets (american idiot), theyre gonna stay blink 182, or they were going too... either way, they left a legacy, even if its shrouded with bathroom humor and 3 minute opuses to sexual jungle noises. look, i love blink...a lot. they are one of my favorite bands. but it sure seems to me that they bought into the whole "depressed emo kid" market on their last album. they basically went out and signed all these bands to their clothing labels, and then put out an album that was on par with the bands they signed. yes, untitled was a great album, but it is not even comparable to their previous efforts. their last tour was barely even funny. i actually thought no doubt put on a better live show the night i went. i don't think the green day album is overrated because i think it touches a lot more people than the last blink album, but that's my opinion and i don't want to debate that. but i will debate you saying "they're not gonna surprise us" because they did.
i know, i know... they "matured", they "grew-up"...that's what good bands do. fair enough, but i can't imagine more than 10-15% of the die-hard blink fans actually enjoyed them as much at the end of their time. it's like, it became a business, and it wasn't fun anymore.
pick me apart because i spoke negatively about blink, but know that nobody here is pulling for them to get back together after a 5 year hiatus and return to what everyone loved about them at one time... making fun music, no matter how absurd.

dont worry, im not gonna pick you apart, in fact i agree with a lot of that, i was scared someone would metion that but for the good part of the year, they threw no curveballs, but still it was almost inevitable they would have a "mature" album... i had been expecting it since dude ranch so thats why i personally wasnt surprised, they were due... but its all good
also, that shot at green day wasnt an insult really, i do think its a decent album, but its got so much attention i can barely listen to it without feeling the overratedness

i appreciate civil discourse. it seems hard to find on this site. i applaud you. and yes, i can totally understand your feelings on the new green day album. that's the way of the industry though i suppose...

wow, blink means sooo much to me. its sad to know that they're really gone. i bought a fender bass, spiked my hair, wore hurley, atticus, and pumas because of mark hoppus. he will forever be my idol.

amen, i think blink is alot of popele's musical roots and I know for myself and alot of my friends that I have memories attached to all of their songs, including boxcarracer... haha hell my sn is blinkdude. People can bash blink all they want, but I think everyone likes at least one of their songs. Even today i saw the most metal kid playing Carousel. Blink is truly an amazing band.

anything you said has to be quoted cause i think were all into music because of them we all play guitar bc of them and we all are who we are bc of them. thank you blink
i was just thinking about this same topic the other day; and i was thinking...what is our generation about, what does it stand for? well for a large portion, we are the blink kids..we are who we are because of this band. i take pride in saying bink 182 is the reason i am the person i am today.

and as for comparing the two. bj can actually and does play full chords and he can solo live. tom's "sick licks" on the first two albums are in all actuality not that difficult. like take m&m's. it sounds hard, but it's just a bunch of hammer-on's and pull-off's on the high e string....not terribly difficult. as for who's more "catchy", that's a personal opinion, but i don't think you can put one ahead of the other. it seems that you're basing tom's "catchiness" off the fact that he actually plays riffs on a bunch of songs, which hardly is a valid reason as they are quite simple riffs.Oooohhh wow he can play full chords, and even though Tom's been in a mainstream band for what ten years, he obviously can't play 'full chords'. And those BJ solos, untouchable. I think BJ's a better guitarist, but your reasons suck. Sorry to bring down the happiness of this thread.
I love Blink182.

okay how about tom sounds like shit live and bj sounds dead on? my dog could beat his dick on a guitar and have it sound good in a studio, but live is where it really matters. and that's where bj does some of his soloing. untouchable solos? hardly. but i give more respect to a guy that can make his guitar sound good live and throw in random solos over a guy that merely plays his guitar at 200 mph and sound like shit. i think bj's a better guitarist too and i think your rebuttal sucks. you obviously felt compelled to sit and talk shit because you apparently can play guitar. well congratufuckinglations. so can every other guy in america that's trying to get laid.
next time read all of what i wrote and maybe you'd realize that i wasn't knocking blink, but in fact have much admiration and love for them and for tom.

I'll never forget breaking up with a girl by playing her "Untitled" in my car; dead serious
i hope you let the song play out enough so you could both listen to the frantic shrieking of feared sexual disease transmission.

I do this pretty much everyday.
Sometimes i wonder if someone truly likes blink more than i do.. haha. Not that i've been there fan the longest or anything i just, fuck i love them.

all i'm saying is that there was a time that green day/offspring/rancid were all over mtv, and that was before blink. so for the older crowd, when they were hitting their teens, those bands were probably bigger influences and/or gateway bands. when i was hitting junior high, these were the bands that were out. blink didn't get their huge mainstream success for another 3-4 years (tying into some of the late teens on this site.) it's all relative to age.
and all i was saying by the guitar reference is that both bj and tom had an influence on me. and if you by any means think that somehow tom has is a far more "original" guitarist than bj, you are sorely mistaken. they are right on par with each other, with billy being the much better live guitarist. i don't think any guitarist would dispute that with me.
I would dispute it with you. I wouldn't say either is better than the other, even live. They both play very simple guitar but who cares cause it works.

Many people hate this band for whatever reason it may be, but I've always loved this band and the stuff they came out with and I liked the "growth" of the band over the years. I can't think of a single Blink 182 song that I don't like. Nobody can take away what this band has accomplished and how it has changed the lives of so many people. They will record another cd again someday, but I hope it's alot sooner than later. But when it does happen, it's gonna be huge.
