With the release of the Transformers 2 teaser trailer, I decided to create a Michael Bay thread where you all can discuss how much his movies rock or suck. Discuss your favorite action set pieces and cheesiest scenes right here.

One of the worst men in hollywood. No talent hack, hasn't found a classic yet that he couldn't insult.

One of the car chase scenes from The Island is exactly the same as the car chase scene in Bad Boys II.
I will throw my hat in here: fuck you, Michael Bay.

Those aren't ideas, they're just special effects.
I...I don't understand.

Seriously, I think his movies require about a week's worth of actual acting. Lead actors are usually green screen in his movies

eh i enjoy his movies, but i love mindless action flicks. i'm not ashamed to say i could have bad boys 2 on in the background all day. it's way too long and tough to get through in one sitting if you're actually paying attention to the whole thing but the individual scenes are better than the movie as a whole.

Did anyone notice that Transformers 2 is in post-production already? And didn't they start filming like last summer haha? Is it just me or does that sound like a really short time to film such a massive flick?

While he's obviously nothing special and could use some diversity (and much more, but I'm too lazy to list) in his work, I can't deny the fact I enjoyed: Armageddon, Bad Boys, The Island and Transformers. Sometimes you just want an explosion, awesome car chase and mindless action. With that being said, I also understand why some aren't so fond of him.

talented director who makes good looking, but otherwise terrible films...

My dick gets deeper than a film by Michael Bay.
i love the imaginationland episode of south park when they get michael bay in to come up with ideas for what to do about the terrorist hijacking.

I agree. He for sure is not anything too terrible special. But when your looking for a good ol action film to sit back and just enjoy Micheal Bay is there!! I also have enjoyed almost every movie he's done The Rock, Bad Boys I and II, Transformers, Pearl Harbor. Their not like crazy good films but they are entertaining.

YES. I have been saying the same thnig for ages, a production as big as this- DING DING DING IRON MAN 2- takes a good 3 years to properly make

I wonder how it's gonna turn out haha. I mean Transformers was "fun" in that fun, explosive, eye candy sense...but this thing must be entirely done by computers now or something

He convinced Scarlett Johansson to not be naked in The Island. I'll forever hate him.

Just bought two of his movies (The Island and Bad Boys II) plus I already have The Rock and all three of those movies contain a great car chase and mindless fun. Just wish he would do an intelligent action movie like Face/Off or Speed.

The Rock is more intelligent than Face/Off and Speed combined

Not really.
The Island is actually underrated, I think. At release he was still taking some of the backlash from Pearl Harbor. If you don't mind the ludicrious product placement and train-sized plot holes near the end, it's suprisingly good entertainment, and the action scenes are fantastic.
I thought the first Transformers movie was great too, it didn't take itself too seriously, and was basically one giant explosion from start to finish. Best part about the movie is that it's over 2 hours long, but you barely notice because the scenes are just BAM BAM BAM one after the other. That's what pacing should be for an action movie.
Then Transformers 2 came out, which was just ass.

I really liked the Day After Tomorrow and Transformers, wasn't too fussed on the second one though. I like his films on the whole.

Wrong director
Not really.
So you're telling me that stopping a hostage situation at Alcatraz is less believable than a bus with a bomb that never seems to hit much LA traffic and flies or surgery that not only switches faces, but ignores the fact that Travolta is twice the size of Cage?

I think you will find it is more than just a hostage situation, it is terrorist threat on San Fransisco as well. I never even said that any of the three movies in question was more believeable than each other, I said that I think Face/Off and Speed are more intelligent movies than The Rock.

The Day After Tomorrow was directed by Roland Emmerich. Although, they have extremely similar styles.
I've actually, more or less, enjoyed most of Michael Bay's films (Transformers, Armageddon, and yes, even Pearl Harbor) but I enjoy them for the visuals more than anything else. The Island would be the only movie of his that I enjoyed the substance as much as the visuals, but that's because I have a soft spot for futuristic movies.

Apologies, for some reason I thought that Michael Bay directed it. And Armageddon was a brilliant film.
