A friend of mine is looking to start a clothing company (like the rest of the world apparently). He's interested in the name "Celebrity Clothing" and wanted to know your thoughts before going ahead with the project. I'm a nice guy and help my pals out.

name doesn't matter that much, just have enough money to stock enough of every size of all your designs immediately and advertise where it counts. make a good interactive website that is ready to do everything the day you launch. make connections with people that can help you right off the bat, and promote like there's no tomorrow.
in short, learn from my mistakes keke

I would maybe call it "Celebrity Garments" -- clothing and apparel are played out. Maybe "Celebrity Threading"?
Also, please be tasteful in your designs -- shirts that only say CELEBRITY or say... ATTICUS... in size 1600 font are pretty lame.
I would put the emphasis on the design and try to keep the brand name understated

please no black shirts.
agreed. i have like 39482390423098402940239 black shirts, all the cool designs on shirts go on black shirts. So like my entire wardrobe is black shirts. Make some colorful ones!...so for next summer i dont look like a douche bag every day wearing only black shirts to the beach.

i agree with the whole design aspect. I recently did a t-shirt company for a graphics project. Now at the risk of showing off, I've included some designs. Let me know what you think if you want :)

that's awesome man...great stuff! I love the first one especially.
...And as for the "Celebrity Clothing" thing - the name isn't my favorite...but as long as his designs are sweet, and he promotes in the right places, he'll do well.
If he's interested, I can help him out with some promotion on a new site of mine. Let me know if he'd be interested - I'd be willing to advertise for him for free while he starts up. Anything to help out an indie entrepreneur / company. Good luck to him either way!

Please no shattered fonts, poetry in scratched text, distorted angel pictures, blood splatterings, dripping spray paint text, crosses, silly metaphors, silly one liners, pictures of girls slitting their wrists, pictures of girls laying in bed with sunrays in the background, pictures of people being hanged, pictures of nooses and whatever you do definitely no cartoon hearts, cut-out hearts, human hearts, text hearts or anything closely remote to hearts. Not everyone can be 15 forever. Eventually they will realize how stupid their emo shirts are and give them to the homeless (poor homeless people). Try to be the alternative clothing brand for folks over 16.

if your friend is marketing to the kind of kids that come to this website, i would advise against calling it 'celebrity clothing', kids wouldn't like that, i'm thinking.

Those are tight. Is Icarus your own idea or is that an existing line that you just did a project on? I liked it a lot.
Celebrity sounds like something i would not want to wear

yeah it is my own name. The logo (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/Atticus_FireFox/t-shirt%20designs/icaruslogonobannermessy.jpg) is just a photo of a friend I took, traced in Adobe Ilustrator, with some wings I drew and combined them together.
And thanx, glad you like :)

Definitely, whole heartedly agree. It is really hard to find good "punk" shirts, etc that doesn't look like I am trying to compete with the local 14 year old mall rat. I also think it would be great if your lineup included some unique girls shirts or girls items. Please no baby doll tees!! They went out in 1997. I'm sick of the guys always having the cool designs and the girls getting some stupid butterflies or cursive pink writing. Granted, I don't want to wear a big black t-shirt but how about some interesting colors with bold designs that come in styles of shirts that are actually fashionable? I guarantee if you had this included, you would sell a ton. At least I know I would buy a big chunk!
Name is definitely extremely important. Obviously the design is huge, but no one is going to get to the stage of checking out the design if there isn't some incentive or something the piques their interest such as an interesting label name. There are a bizillion clothing companies, to stand out name comes first and leads to the awesome design which leads to the sales.
I agree with an earlier post that said to ditch the "clothing" part of "Celebrity Clothing." To me it sounds outdated. Clothing to me represents a general word of items you have to wear not fresh items you want to wear. Play around a little, threads wasn't a bad idea, or rags... or how about "Celebrity Dirt?" Throw some weird second word in there to make it more interesting if you want to keep the celebrity part. It sounds silly, but honestly little stuff like that definitely makes a huge difference.
Good luck!
