What a terrible, blatant rip-off of the 1938 movie The Lady Vanishes (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0030341/).

It's true, there is NO originality left in Hollywood these days. Next time I see another preview for a "remake" I am going to vomit. really.

At least I will lose a little weight....

Luckily, 95% of the people going to see this movie will have neither heard of nor seen The Lady Vanishes.

True, but that's because 95% of the people going to see this movie have terrible taste in movies.

...have you even seen the movie? just because it's a remake, doesn't make anybody's taste in movies bad for going to see it. besides, nobody(including Peter Dowling) is trying to deny that this film isn't referencing Ethel White's novel(from which the 1938 film is drawn from as well), but we're still just talking about the premise(if that). there could be plenty more for us to see as far as plot development(apparently enough, that Ethel White was not issued writing credits). Jodie Foster, Sean Bean, and Peter Sarsgaard have all made fine films recently. there's nothing yet to say that this won't be a decent film.

Seen Flightplan? No. Seen The Lady Vanishes? Many times. Given Hollywood's long-term, and especially recent track record with writing both screenplays and scripts, I have a hard time believing that this will be that good of a movie. The first credited writer is Peter A. Dowling an he's done nothing at all before, so perhaps he'll be a new up-and-coming writer, but the chance for that is slim. The other writer, Billy Ray, wrote and directed Shattered Glass, which was a great film, but his only stand-out film. I'd say given the team, it will be like most other recent movies, some solid parts in the script, but inconsistent over the course of the film. I doubt I'll see it in theatres, I'll probably wait to see it at my school in one of the campus lecture halls a few months after it comes out. My expectations aren't very high.

yeah i'll agree with that. the crew seems subpar and relatively new. there is a greater chance that this film will be mediocre, but im always drawn to an attractive cast. shattered glass was a great film by the way. Hart's War, i actually enjoyed. not epic by any means, but entertaining. same with Suspect Zero. it was okay.

Flightplane looks horrible.

Most movies do suck these days. It's sad, really.

There is PLENTY of originality in Hollywood.

People just don't like to see those movies. Seriously. Look at which movies make the most money in the box office - THE RIPOFFS. There's plenty of talented filmmakers in Hollywood. Their work just is seldom seen.

Ditto, the first thing I thought of when I saw the trailer for Flightplan was, "Hey, that looks EXACTLY like The Forgotten..."

The Lady Vanishes from 1938 is the original which everything was ripped off of. Go watch that movie and tell me it isn't.

I like to see these movies, and I haven't found very many. The last new, great, original movie I saw was The Man Without A Past, the Finnish movie from a few years ago. Go figure it was good, it was done in Finland, not Hollywood.
