Cardboard ftw. But not when they make it ridiculously thin so it doesn't fit into most CD shelves.

It has been a long time since an album I bought was in a jewel case, and not on purpose by any means. I do think there is usually a bit more aesthetic value to most cardboard packaging.

I prefer cardboard. It's too bad that most CDs are in plastic cases. It does bother me, though, when the cardboard cases don't include the lyrics, too, because I like having the lyrics booklet, but the cardboard cases are definitely more enjoyable artistically speaking.

at first, cardboard seems to look nicer and "authentic", but over time they tend to wear out pretty quickly. my portugal. the man censored colors' cd (it's cardboard) already shows a lot more wear than cds i've had for years.

i like the digipack's if they're done well. and by well, i mean the cd can sit in a plastic cd holder. not a slot where my cd gets scratched every time i take it out or put it away like the new springsteen cd. i have no problem with jewel cases though. i just want some kind of liner notes.

agreed. i hate digipaks that don't have the plastic tray. that's why i usually go for jewel cases.

I like my Valencia case, but I hate how it gets scratched when I put it away. I want to be able to listen to that album for years to come.

I prefer plastic. But it doesn't matter to me as long as I get some kind of liner notes.

i like plastic due to the fact that cardboard wears out quickly. also, i enjoy booklets.

Plastic sucks, it breaks far too easily. Cardboard packaging, with a plastic thing to hold the CD inside (I believe this was done with Hot Cross - Risk Revival) works the best.

I can't choose. The plastic ones are the perfect size for fitting in a CD rack and they last longer/are easy to replace. Carboard ones look way better though. I guess some of my cardboard ones irritate me because my CDs are all in alphabetical order but I can't fit some of them in my racks and so have to skip them out.

I personally, very highly dislike any cardboard case. Too flimsy, and depending on how they do it, sometimes the cd is just a bitch to get out (Folie A Deux-Deluxe Edition), well at least compared to opening the plastic case, which is so easy, and easily replaceable if damaged. Seeing as though I try to care for my cds as if they're each a newborn hemophiliac baby.
I've actually been known to dissect a cardboard cd case, and put all the individual parts in their proper location in a plastic jewel cd case.

Truth. TBH I put doesn't matter, because whichever it is it has to fit in with the artwork.

Cardboard. I like the way it folds out. Even though plastic is classic, I tend to snap them. lol

Althought the cardboard gets ruined quicker, I prefer the way the cardboard packaging looks.

you can buy replacement cases which will fit perfectly for several cents. When cardboard cases start withering away (which they always do), the only thing left is to buy a new one. Cardboard sucks endlessly, this thread confuses me.
