sorry but the shuffle works perfectly for me snowboarding. it has no screen to crack or break, plus the case i bought for it is basically waterproof and damage proof and still has access to the play, forward, volume controls. I love my shuffle.

the iPod Nano looks really cool, but I think I would still go with the regular 20GB iPod just because I like to have access to all of my music, even though I know I won't listen to half of it.

Dude, I'm sorry, but having a little stick that plays mp3s with no LCD screen for $100 bucks is a terrible idea...there's no navigation, nothing...this is a technology that's existed for years and years for like 20 bucks, yet Apple just says "Life is random" and gets away with releasing a terrible product. You spent way too much money on that, man.

you guys, who already own bigger ipods at least, understand that one of the appeals of the nano is that it's flash based, right?

this means that you can take it running, snowboarding, skateboarding etc. and not worry about the hard drive getting ruined.

anyways, I just ordered one last night, it should come within the next few days.

the shuffle was designed (i believe) for exercising or snowboarding and other such activities, where lugging around an mp3 player with a screen that could break etc. etc. is not the ideal situation. this way, you can put one cd or two cds on, and just let it play and it will be sweet. for the most part, that works. not really what i want, but some people do and it works for them.

so i was on my way out of school today, and this girl takes out a shuffle, and says to her friend next to her, "oh my gosh. my iPod almost got taken away today."

the conversation proceeds as follows..

"wait, what's that?!" (pointing to her shuffle)
"this is my iPod. well, i guess it's not really an iPod but it';s called an iPod shuffle."
"oh...how does it work?"
"well, you can only put 250 songs on at a time, but it still works."
"oh. but there's no screen, how do you know what song you're listening to?"
"well, i usually know what song it is..it's completely random, though! it's like a surprise!" (swear to god...she said it was like a surprise)
"okay, so if you really wanted to hear a song, what do you do?"
"i just skip[ through until i can get that song! it's awesome!"

and i thought, why would anyone want to have to do that? what a terrible, terrible product.

i also felt this way about the iPod nano-about how stupid it was, until i found out that it replaces the mini on the market. it doesn't appeal to me, because i have quite a biut more music than 4 GB..but to some who don't listen to that, it works out well. it's ridiculously overpriced, but hey, what apple product isn't?

ok for snowboarding, why would you need an LCD screen when the thing sits in your pocket the entire time? a 1GB flash drive is only about $20-$30 cheaper anyways and it doesn't play mp3's so I don't see how you can honestly tell me it is overpriced when flash drives are selling for $100.

The thing is absolutely perfect for me, I just put my favorite songs on it, put it on shuffle and press play and it provides me with hours of music while snowboarding and I don't have to worry about it breaking. I find absolutely nothing wrong with that so I'm sorry you don't like it, then don't buy one, but don't criticize others for doing so. That is just being arrogant.

.....i think im going to get the shuffle.
if you seriously are going to get it for snowboarding, i would recommend the shuffle over the Nano and get the sports case for it. The case it so nice, it seals and it is very durable so if you fall on it, it is protected. Plus it is like $100 cheaper for the shuffle and you don't even need a screen snowboarding. I love my shuffle no matter what anyone says.

Then don't fucking buy the thing. If you actually read my statements, I had said that I bought it because it DID NOT have a screen to break. I also have a very durable case for it and it works great for snowboarding. I really don't give a shit if I got ripped off or not because I love my Shuffle. I love spaghetti too. The thing is, I don't feel ripped off from it. Apple makes excellent products, so you get what you pay for. Sure I could buy a cheaper mp3 player, just like I could have bought a cheaper computer, or a cheaper car, or a cheaper TV, or a cheaper snowboard, etc, but I didn't because Apple I know makes quality products and I would gladly pay $28 more at Apple.com, just like I would pay $20k more for a BMW, if I had enough money for it.

Anyway, back to the Nano, I really want a black one, but I really don't see myself needing a 2GB or 4GB mp3 player when all I need right now would be to possibly get a new 20GB iPod because my 15GB Dell is getting old and is starting to break down.

A quick search I did earlier today proved that it was rated the worst in it's class and has many serious flaws.....

but this is the way apple has decided to go with their marketing
1) shuffle- no screen, randomly plays music, flash drive, cant use accesories
2) nano- screen, flash drive, cant use accesorites like iTrip (yet) due to the accesory not being able to access power from the dock connector
3) ipod regular- harddrive, accesories.
