Because Kevin Lyman has figured out that straight up punk isn't what makes him money anymore. I don't agree with all his choices of bands from a music standpoint but business wise I guess it works.

There's plenty of shit, but most years there are still enough good bands mixed in with the shit to make it a good, fun day. This year has The Ataris, Bad Religion, Bayside, Big D and the Kids Table, Bouncing Souls, Flogging Molly, Less Than Jake, NOFX, Streetlight Manifesto, and Thrice. If half of those bands are at my date, I'd be more than happy to see them and ignore the other shit that's playing.

The Warped Tour panders to whatever "scenesterista" trends and bands are currently fashionable and beloved. I suspect that has much to do with the vitriol slung toward the show, and in my opinion, it's justified. I went to the show in '07 (I was 19 at the time) to write a piece for my campus paper. Everything seems so tailored to a particul youth/scene aesthetic and lacked an empthasis on actual musical performances.

because it's scene gentrification. it would be much better if all those bands went on different tours so that they could hit up smaller clubs and give local bands a shot at playing with bigger bands. it's also a way of watering down punk rock for the masses, which is why you have lame bands like nofx playing it.

The "sound" that warped tour feasted off of is unexistent now, so Kevin is forced to just go with what's popular.

It's hard to make a tour/festival with a majority of punk/ska bands when there just arent that many of them out there. tbh in the UK we don't get anything like Warped! We get festivals though.

But from my observations, the line up is catering more to this shitty neon crap. It's a shame, but tbh Warped has seemed like a commercial product for a while. I do hope it becomes more credible though, simply because I like watching live Warped vids of decent bands.
