Search results found nothing. Lame. Love him. Favorite album is either Reasonable Doubt or The Blueprint. Also love the Black album. Any fans? Show some love for one of the best hip hop artists of all time.

I think he should have stopped before the Black Album, he has gone downhill.

While I defiantly agree with this, his latest work still has more quality than a large amount of the radio pushed hip-hop today.

I don't listen to any rap at all except Jay-Z because even today he's still on a level that other more modern rappers won't ever achieve *cough* Kanye West, Lil Wayne. If I had to pick a favorite album it'd definitely be "The Black Album" but, song wise my favorite song is definitely "Reservoir Dogs" I just absolutely love that song. His music seems to remain with like the funky type of music and beats to go with his rapping. It seems like other rappers today don't really put that much effort into the actual music behind the rapping it's just bumping bass and claps haha.

There's plenty of great hip hop out there, you just have to look. And for the record, I love the majority of Kanye's work. Lil Wayne is pretty terrible though.

You should go into the general forum hip hop thread, there are a lot of artists on par and above Jay-z right now.

To me I think it has to do with his voice. Because Hip-Hop most of the time just disgusts me but in the past month I heard R.O.C. Boys (And The Winner Is...) somewhere and I was like, "Wow I haven't heard Jay-z for so long I should give him a listen." So I started listening to him and realized I just loved everything he's put out. So I guess it's more of a personal thing to me. I'm sure lyric wise and things that there are better rappers out there but, I seriously doubt I will ever like another rapper better than Jay-z. It's very rare that I can genuinely love every single song on an album and that's pretty much the way it is with every album of his for me.

This came out in 2001, right? So 8 years later... Jay has 3 truly classic albums (Reasonable Doubt, BP, Black Album). Nas has Illmatic, Stillmatic, and It Was Written (as far as classics are concerned). Maybe if Jay spent less of his time talking about how great he is now and a little more time going back to the lyrical content he used to rap about his point would be valid in 2009. Both of the mediocre albums Nas and Jay released have some great singles though. Just my opinion.

Also, for the record, I think Nas smoked Jay with "ether."

Before I get a bunch of angry responses, I love Jay-z.

EDIT: Also, "I been in it 5"-- did Jay-z forget these?

No angry response here. Both have given hip hop some of its best records....I could really give a shit about the beef, just think its funny. As far as "Ether" goes, I felt the song was pretty weak. "Gay-Z".."CockAFella records"? Pretty lame stuff there.

As for the videos, hahah. I've seen them before. Funny ass stuff but never really put too much into it. Dude was 19-20 years old.

Takeover > Ether. There is no contest. All Nas had was stupid, childish ad hominem attacks that really proved nothing more than that he had been in the third grade at some point. "Gay-Z"? Really? Everything Jay-Z said in "Takeover" actually had to do with their feud and actually tearing down Nas. Jay-Z's the king, duh.

Oh, and the best line of "Takeover" was obviously the last one:

And all you other cats throwin shots at Jigga

Nas threw plenty of shots at him for stealing his style and hopping from well-known rapper to well-known rapper. The ad hominem attacks were pretty funny/clever and worked well in the song. "Ether" in general is 10x harder than "Takeover." Didn't Jay cry after he heard it? Pretty sure it was on hot 97.

Not only did I think the lyrics were piss poor and childish...wasnt a fan of the production/beats. Felt Jay's was alot more subtle and sophisticated. Like I said, could really give a shit about the beef or who is *harder*.
