i started listening to m83 about a year ago, and i've completely fallen in love with their albums. here's my order:

1. before the dawn heals us
2. dead cities, red seas, and lost ghosts
3. saturdays = youth
4. digital shades volume 1
5. m83

anyone like them?

We can agree on this. My list is pretty much the same, except I haven't listened to Digital Shades Volume 1. But I love all 3 of the top albums.

I saw it in my store the other day and I was like, when the hell did this come out? I'll probably pick it up soon.

M83 is one of my favourite bands but, Saturdays = Youth was the most disappointing album of 2008 in my opinion. half of the album contained some of the best songs Gonzalez has ever made, but this became overshadowed by the fact that the rest of the album nearly deserved to be referred to as garbage. whereas all the other albums contains more or less equally good songs.

really? i enjoyed saturdays quite a bit. not the best album, but it was still enjoyable

arent they like a semi-shoegaze band? ive been meaning to check them out. how would you describe their sound, in layman's terms, i.e. in a way someone who isnt as musically knowledgable/diverse as he'd like to be would understand.

they are shoegaze-y, but it depends on the album. i'd recommend starting with Before The Dawn Heals Us. that's the one that grabbed me.

they have some songs that are shoegazy (electronic synth, drums, guitar, audio samples) but there are a handful of songs that have all of that and vocals. best songs on that album are Moon Child, Farewell/Goodbye, and Teen Angst.

hope you like them. they're really good. every album is.

Original poster has my exact album preference. Good work!

I know I'm simplifying both, but M83 always struck me as a poor man's Ulrich Schnauss. Although they do have their moments (and I like the pop direction Saturdays = Youth went in), I could never really get behind any of his albums.

I definitely agree. They never did much for me, personally.

Heard of this band a lot, but checked out some songs off Saturdays a few days ago and I liked it a bit. I might just buy.
