They have a new album coming out soon called "Wall of Arms" and played a new song from the album on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show this evening, that track is available for download for free from their website now; http://www.themaccabees.co.uk (http://www.themaccabees.co.uk/)
I look forward to their second album, played their first continuously for a long time.

Awesome, Orlando looks so different.
Really hope it lives up to the first in the way I listened to it constantly. Have heard Young Lions but only shitty live quality, what's the best version you can find of it?

Should be, it's not something available in stores/online, so I think it is fair game.

Rather not get banned over it so if it isn't, I'll take it down.
So yeah, Young Lions is awesome!

Shame that video isn't better quality, really can't judge by it but I remember watching that so much when it first came out. It was all there was of new material at the time.

Just listened to the sessions, good stuff but the sound of the rip puts me off and also I think they went back and worked on the songs even more after this session as it was a couple months ago I believe?
Thanks for the upload though, good to hear some version of the songs.

Yeah well it was only a radio rip and it's better than live quality so far!
Might not be representative of the final product but it's a good indication, hopefully.

Orlando only plays guitar on some tracks live, was doing it for Toothpaste Kisses on the last album/tour, all the members are still there but sometimes have three guitars going.
Orlando would always play guitar in acoustic live performances too.

Cool cool man nice one, I saw them live once and Orlando would always give the mic to the bassist guy and let him sing . . funny thing was he sounded exactly the same ahaha so thought they might have been a line up change. Cheerz dude x

Really do, all of the songs are so good. Orlando's voice is probably my favourite as far as male vocalists nowadays. Able to sound like an old fashioned crooner as well as a modern singer.

Caught them this weekend at the Camden Crawl and it was so good, mostly new songs but rarely can a band get away with a set like that before the new album is out and still keep everyone so pumped the whole time. Drip drip goes the new album too, by the way, it's so solid.

In other Maccabees news, I saw them play the Norwich Waterfront last night and it was hands down best gig I've attended. Mumford & Sons (http://www.myspace.com/mumfordandsons (http://www.myspace.com/mumfordandsons)) really stunned the crowd and blew them away, keep an eye out for them and The Maccabees played a n amazing set with songs from "Colour It In" and "Wall Of Arms". The setlist included the following:
No Kind Words
X-Ray
Tissue Shoulders
Kiss And Resolve
Lego
Can You Give It
Toothpaste Kisses
Precious Time
William Powers
The Accordian Song
Young Lions
First Love
Mary
Love You Better

I think it's safe to say we can throw all worries about sounding creepy out the window, let's just go with it. You use your looks and charm to win them over and I'll use my familiar accent and taste of theirs to aid the cause. Sounds like a sure fire way to get in with the boys?
edit: You have until October to get here, haha.

>.< I actually ended up downloading it the less-than-legal way because I'm frustrated/poor (I just ordered Pete Doherty's book and Bound Together with the last of my money) but it's sitting in my Amazon.com cart and I'm gonna order it the next time I get paid.

Awesome, let me know what you think, it's incredible. The production as well as how it feels as an album/Orlando's lyrics/vocals/music is far superior. Joint favourite album of all time and it's only been out a few months, but I'm a bias fanboy.

Awesome, very glad that there are a couple more people I can talk to about them here. I know they don't tour much or play gigs at all over there, but if they ever do, I highly recommend it, very humble, down-to-earth guys who really get crowd going and have fun. Plus, they sound immaculate.

Haha, I know, I dislike the term "fanboy" really though, makes me think of somebody just listening to a band for a short binge, I've followed these guys before their debut was released when they were playing music that was so different/basic compared to now, love them and have done for a while/will continue to do so. I guess I am just weary of naming an album released so recently as one of my all time favourites, but I literally haven't had a day where I haven't listened to Wall Of Arms, can't recommend it enough.

I've only been listening maybe a year or so but they're damn good. No favorite album butttt favorite songs: Can You Give It, X-Ray, All In Your Rows, andddd basically every song haha. Wish they'd come to the U.S. to tour, I would just die of happiness.

Their setlist for support slot with Editors across Europee is interesting. A cover and a change up from normal opener of "No Kind Words". Also, only playing one song from Colour It In and it's one they haven't played regularly for years, "All In Your Rows". Off to see them again next month with Bombay Bicycle Club and Drums, can't wait.
European setlist:
1) William Powers
2) One Hand Holding
3) All In Your Rows
4) Wall Of Arms
5) Young Lions
6) Can You Give It
7) Because (I Am Kloot cover)
8) No Kind Words
9) Love You Better

Recent message from Felix:
Hello everyone,
So it's a couple of weeks since we finished our last uk tour for now, and firstly we'd like to thank everyone that came down to the gigs. We had played a lot of the same venues at the end of last year and it was amazing to see them full again. Thanks to the NME for having us and big thanks to all of you! It's been great touring with all the bands and people involved over the last year, sharing our travels with a number of proper wonderful characters and having the pleasure of playing or working with some of our favourite musicians like Edwyn Collins, Johnny from I Am Kloot and Roots Manuva.
We've laughed a lot and it's a shame to not be touring properly again for a while but it's done and we've got to move on to the next thing. We're back at home now and sorting ourselves out for the making of our third record, which will occupy ninety percent of our attention this year. It's a genuinely exciting prospect for us to have the opportunity to make another album and I'm sure later in the year there will be update's on it's progress. In the meantime, there will be a handful of festivals and some shows here and there. I'm writing this as the flat above plays our record, I can hear it through the ceiling, which I'm a bit embarrassed about because I was berating their taste in music last week.
We were sad to hear about 6 music's proposed closure (http://zaphod.uk.vvhp.net/click/4982407-125106/zaphod.uk.vvhp.net/v-v/98921ab034ea3e924bd2dbf1976444801-4982407) the other day. It's a station we've been happy to be associated with and always had a good time at when we were on it. It's a proper music station and it always seemed to me that it's set up with the right principles as a public service station.
Anyways, until next time we're in touch take care and thank you again for all the support that we have been given since Wall Of Arms came out last year.

Haha well, if nothing else came out this year that I liked, then I guess I could consider it my album of this year, even though it wasn't released in this year... if that makes sense. I agree with the top 5 of all time list, too.
I've heard Child and the other one (does that have a title yet?) and I love them. They sound a lot more ambitious and mature. So excited.

Other one still has no name, no but sounds great. They have easily provided the best live shows I've ever seen, and I've seen them a lot of times now. Cannot wait for new tours and album.

Good, good :)
I started liking them right when Colour It In was released. I stumbled upon the finger puppets video for About Your Dress on YouTube and fell in love. However, they weren't in the video, so I assumed, by Orlando's voice, that they were all guys in their late 30s-40s. I was under this assumption for a year, too. Hahaha it seems so silly to me now.
I'm really excited for the new album. I think they got dropped from their American label, so I doubt they'll be here in the states any time soon. Besides, even when they came here, they were only in NYC for a week then left. I pretty much rely on YouTube to see their live shows -- but they're all amazing. Needless to say, I'm jealous of you English folks.

Haha yeah. I am so glad I get to see them so much, 7 or 8 times now and undoubtedly more to come. Will always go out of my way to see them on whatever tour, secret gig, one off dates they play etc. One bad I truly adore.
Orlando's voice just gets better and better each album, even the live videos of "Child", he sounds even better than on Wall Of Arms which I thought would be hard to top. Actually getting this tattooed soon on the inside of my left arm bicep (except just a black outline, no fill or colour or text):

Completely agree with the bolded part haha. The day they come to America, I'll attempt to see them.
And man, that'd be an incredible tattoo. I love it, it's a perfect homage to the album.
Also, I agree. I think they'll be able to top Wall of Arms, since they haven't given me any reason to doubt their capability yet. They're an amazingly talented band, yet they're totally underrated.

Very far, I think they are just starting too like you said. Wall Of Arms felt like the band's starting point for me. Like that was a sound and an album/style that they were all finally adjusted to, happy with and one they had managed to craft as their own. They are ridiculously adored by their fans and doing well over here with big festival slots the past couple of years etc. but I honestly think they will just get bigger. Not necessarily in a chart way, but amongst indie/alternative music fans they are just gonna expand their fanbase. They don't seem like a band who can fail at what they do because they are now so comfortable with their song-writing and how good it is.

They are playing a secret location, ticket winners only gig tonight in London with Mumford & Sons, Bombay Bicycle Club and Laura Marling. So annoyed I didn't get tickets. Here are some pictures from their soundcheck:

Really impressed, so surprised they played "Hearts That Strangle", "The Real Thing" with Mumford & Sons and a new song (which sounded amazing). Sound levels were far too low for everyone though.

Yeah new one was expected to come out in September, was my most anticipated for the year too, but now it's January. Such a long wait, but I find it hard to be mad at them because I know it will be worth it.

I liked them when their debut came out and then it was just maccabees saturation (over in the UK anyway) but this new record is such a departure, but so well done that it is like a totally new band. Its brilliant.

Seriously so great, am so in love with it. There's so many layers and textures and parts to songs that I'm still taking it in on about my 8th listen. Superb. I've waited for this for what seems like so long and following them from before their debut was released until now is such a great feeling.
