Personally I'm old school and would rather see games in 2D. All of my favorite RPG's were in 2D and I'm glad that certain companies are halting the 3D trend and going back to their roots.

Best 2D game ever?

Depends on the genre. Generally I love 2d games, but as far as first person shooters go, the 3d is just getting so good. Most everything else I could settle for 2d over 3d

yeah that's true; 3D FPS are the only way to go.

Best 2-D game ever- Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Don't even try to argue unless you're using Super Mario 3, Super Mario World, or Chrono Trigger as your choice.

That's because you were born in '91 :)
And I'm not saying that's a bad thing...it's just the younger you are, the less you can understand our old school mindset :)

Best 2D game ever = SMB3. It's one of the first games I ever played and still my fave.

2d fighters are always a million times better than 3d ones. same with rpgs. those are really the only type of games i play anyway.

cause it's 3 in US 6 in Japan

and 3 in Japan is pretty cool

But I agree if you mean 3 US...

the Scenario part with 3 groups RULES.

I love 2D. I love the NES to death. My favorite 2D games are Contra and Super Mario 3, with SM3 edging out Contra.

3D is better for shooters and sports games, but I'd have to go with 2D overall, easily.

the scenario part was great i still think its the best of the final fantasy series

king of fighters, capcom vs. snk, etc. are the best fighting games.

oh yeah, darkstalkers rules too. :)

I really wish that companies like Disney weren't abandoning their traditional animation studios and ways of doing things. Yeah their working with Pixar brought in a lot of money and put out some really phenomenal pictures, but it really makes me sad when they turn their back on the past like that and devote themselves solely to computer generated stuff. :(

Yeah, I still love Disney and all and I am looking forward to movies like Chicken Little and Cars, but it would just be nice to still see some traditional ones here and there... My family goes to Disney World in Florida for vacation almost every summer and to watch the evolution of their Animation Tour is really sad. It used to be one of my personal favorite things to do, but now it's just practically empty since they no longer need the animators..
