Bottom line, The Junior Varsity (www.purevolume.com/thejuniorvarsity) are the hardest working band in the world. With that said, listen to "I Said I Try" on the band's pureVOLUME.com (www.purevolume.com/thejuniorvarsity) page. It's off of their debut album, Wide Eyed...buy it.

No, but the politics get old after a while, they need to change it up a bit more. Exit English was good, but I don't think I could enjoy seeing them live if I was having politics yelled to me.

Actually, now that I think about it, both Wide Eyed and Exit English had the same effect, they both had 2-3 songs I loved, and I liked the album the whole way through a few times, but then I found myself listening to just those certain songs after that.

Dude back in the day bands used to play atleast three shows a day on their tours.

Yes, and gas also used to cost less then a dollar, its all relative.

And it seems that compared to bands today, TJV have worked fucking hard

the politics do get kind of repetitive, but you can't fault the band for having a message and sticking to it. hell even their merch shirts are made in the US. that takes heart. it's a nice slab of healthy punk to listen to once in awhile.

back to the topic, the Junior Varsity are pretty bad ass. seriously, thieves gotta stop targeting them.

if songs about helping your fellow man is too much politics for you, you are wack. Im sorry they dont sing about chicks 24/7 like say the startingline who i note you listen to or at least they arent so fucking stupid that they need to make songs about the scene (i.e. Fall out boy) who you also listen to.

I've gotta call bullshit on that one. There is no way this band is the hardest working band in the world. How do you judge that? You can't. Its just another AP writer blowing smoke up your ass because most people arent intelligent enough to realize thats a bullshit statement with no proof to back that up.

Now here's where you say "oh they got their van broken into 47 times..." SO? Theyre not the only band out there thats happened to. There are bands out there that have carried on after much much worse adversity than that.

Plus theyre signed to Victory. If you didnt know, they hand out record contracts along with samples of Tide in the local papers here in Chicagoland. How else do you think the Audition got signed?

Don't make assumptions. Listen to "Ready" or "Inspired By The Dollar Sign," those songs aren't about girls. Sure, a lot of them are, but don't write them off like that.

But I do agree with you on the Fall Out Boy part - the scene bashing lyrics are getting really, really old.

Chris chris chris. Lets not be a hypocrite!! i remember when you handed me information on the Encor Music Network and said you'd love to work with TJV and thought they were really good!

So this means you're either just a huge hypocrite, or you're trying to make a profit on behalf of indie bands, whether you think they'e good or not.

Also, yes, Geisert 8 Band was really nothing noteworthy.
Also, you work for Hot Topic...the meca of generic, boring, uninfluential bands.

But I will agree that Park is amazing. And good friends of TJV, so please, hold it against them that they are an "influence" in their music.

i was the totally awesome one at the house of blues with all the chicks around me.

i love forum drama. its so funny.

for the record:

strike anywhere rules. i booked them once and then partied afterwards and thomas was talking about how beautiful dolphins are and how we should protect our waters. im not pro-earth or political by any means, but it was great to hear someone speak with such passion about SOMETHING. too many people get caught up in making drama in their lives, and would really benefit from standing for something to fuel your passions. i respect them for that, and i happen to like the band a whole lot.

alkaline trio used to be good. now i hear them at the bar i go to and its kinda funny to me.

tjv and park are both amazing, influence each other, and are my friends so i have more scene points than everyone. add the scene points from talking to Thomas from SA and i win everything.

Come on, look further then two obvious bands that some people dislike.

Ok, I am growing tired of this bullshit generalization. Maybe 4-5 songs on FUCT are about the scene, but the two earlier albums have little or none of it. Tell me that Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Girl is all about the scene, or did you forget they had that album

i heard from a very good source that the rteason the junior varsity got signed to victory was they told victory that drive thru was offering them a contract so victory looked into it, and junior varisty tryed this with richard from drive thru when they told him "victory was orginaly interested" which was alie, so richard listened and basically said "you can def have them" because if you heard their old cd on british records, its not somthing you would orginaly think to be signed to victory or any big label forthat matter, so victory decided to sign them. i saw this band a hand full o tiems openign for other bigger victory bands, and they are nothign special. and i agree with everyone who argued theyarenmt the most hard working band, there are def more bands who tour more than these guys. what about bayside ? even bands liek day at the fair have been on tour non stop since may, and will continue to be. and houston calls had their entire van stolen and stuff, looting happens to alot of bands. doesnt mean when it does the band is the most hard working band in the world

i heard from a very good source that the rteason the junior varsity got signed to victory was they told victory that drive thru was offering them a contract so victory looked into it, and junior varisty tryed this with richard from drive thru when they told him "victory was orginaly interested" which was alie, so richard listened and basically said "you can def have them" because if you heard their old cd on british records, its not somthing you would orginaly think to be signed to victory or any big label forthat matter, so victory decided to sign them. i saw this band a hand full o tiems openign for other bigger victory bands, and they are nothign special. and i agree with everyone who argued theyarenmt the most hard working band, there are def more bands who tour more than these guys. what about bayside ? even bands liek day at the fair have been on tour non stop since may, and will continue to be. and houston calls had their entire van stolen and stuff, looting happens to alot of bands. doesnt mean when it does the band is the most hard working band in the world
that was the single most ignorant, know nothing about your subject matter post i have ever read. the parts that are able to be followed somewhat make no sense whatsoever.

Grammar, punctuation, coherent sentences, aren't a large portion of these things taught before high school. Honestly, its hard to tell where a sentence starts and stops, capitalize please. Then maybe I can follow your argument.

It's my fucking opinion, if you can't respect it...blow me. This band tours so fucking much and works their fucking asses off. They've gone through like 10 robberies, a shotgun blast through their windshield (while they were in it) and still prevail and make it to all of the shows. They're dedicated as hell.

Note: you guys have to take into consideration...this badn had no label and no agent up until very recently. Yes, bands do tour as much as them, NO bands have not toured as much as them without any tour support from a label, no agent, no manager and no full length album. These guys booked all of their own shit for a majority of their band careers and did it 100% DIY... you can't compare that to a band who has everything done for them by businessmen.

And good friends of TJV, so please, hold it against them that they are an "influence" in their music.

yours truly,
joe kalis (so you don't think i'm trying to hide my identity while posting a retort)Correct Joe, at that time, I didn't mind the music. But I listen to this new CD... it is not good. And I am entitled to that opinion. And yes, Geisert 8 band was nothing super noteworthy, but they WERE my friends... so I helped them out, much like you did with the junior varsity...

I don't mind the guys in the Junior Varsity as people... I just think they could have had a better CD. Nick has sent me stuff to ask me what I think, and I give him criticism. That's all it is. They could have done better. I say the same about the Forecast's CD... and I used to play with two of the 4 of them!

And I work for Hot Topic, you are correct... and if it truly IS the mecca of generic, boring, and uninfluential bands, then 99.9% of the people on this site listen to "generic, boring, and uninfluential bands".

Thanks for the controversy. I love it.

hes from illinois. transplanted to cali by a great little company that solicits the most popular bands available for retail earnings....and gives those bands an opportunity to make a living playing music... and the bands know that, it's too bad that the people that shop there (and then say they don't because it's not cool) dont' see it. Oh, and I transplanted myself. On my own free will.

Very disappointing, Joe. I would think that someone like you, who has good taste in music could honor an honest criticism.

contrair, mon frere. for the record, i was as much of their manager as they have ever had for 6+ months of my life. to the extent that:

a) i pretty much lost my girlfriend because of it
b) decided not to go back to work in order to help them out, and in turn got sued by my landlord because i couldnt pay rent for those 6 months.
c) put up with more bullshit yammering between British Records and TJV than i ever imagined possible
d) had more fun than i can recollect in the rest of my life.

I only say this because I can personally atest that they are hard working, because I sat beside them throughout the beginning stages of the TJV empire as we know it today. Before them I toured with Amazing Transparent Man, who I would say toured more than them (as did many other bands), and the Red Hot Valentines and they both became nothing. So obviously they did something right. and people can make up whatever bullshit they want, but I and a lot of other people know they made it where they are today because Nick and Andy would sit online for days and days and days and whore TJV online...myspace, purevolume, aim, mailing lists, other bands message boards. Hard working, yes. HardEST working, no. but its not what you know but who you know, and they obviously met someone worth knowing.

And Chris, I wasn't meaning that as a personal attack, I just think it's interesting that you would make such a blanket statement without explaining what you didnt like about it. Youre entitled to your opinion, as am i, but I have NO REASON to like this album or kiss their ass, seeing as i am no longer part of the "TJV crew" for various reasons that we need not get into on a lame ranting board. But I do like it. And they do work hard. So love it or hate it, it is what it is.
