View Full Version : A question to all the "hardcore" kids who enjoy dancing.

Can someone please explain to me the point of dancing? Is it some sort of a release for you to swing your arms around, do cartwheels, jump on top of people trying to watch the show, and hit random bystanders? I know dancing is a pretty popular thing to do, but is everyone an asshole about it? Maybe this is just my "local scene" that is fucked up. Chiodos played in my town 2 days ago and a local hardcore band was on the bill too. So the hardcore kids all came, danced and did their shit. No big deal, I understand you like it and as long as you dont fuck up anyone elses experience, go for it.
But then Chiodos started playing, the hall was over capacity and a tight enough squeeze as it was, but they got the idea to start a circle, start throwing eachother into people trying to watch the show on purpose and giving anyone who said something to them a hard time. At one point they all took a running charge at the kids in front of them and knocked half of the crowd on its ass. There was an older guy their with Chiodos who seemed like he was trying to keep the crowd under control, but it was just too hard for one guy to watch 200 kids.
So please, explain to me, is my local scene just full of douchebags, or should I accept this as something "normal." Im really not trying to start any fights or anything, its an honest question.

Watching ska kids dance is an adventure in itself. Hardcore kids, well those who really are hardcore kids, are insanely fun to watch. However, when one of them bends over and does the grab air thing with both arms, it gets a little ridiculous.

I actually like watching the hardcore dancing at hardcore/metalcore shows. I'd never do it myself because you look like a retard and I don't want to get anywhere near them, but it's fun to watch. At the right show, there is nothing wrong with "hardcore dancing."
The only part about it that bothers me now is that this dancing is becoming so organized and it almost seems coreographed (sp.?)
for example...
http://www.fobtastic.net/downloads/awddad.gif
edit: sorry the link doesn't work anymore, but its basically 3 kids, each holding another kid by the legs while they swing their arms aimlessly....almost looks like a wheelbarrow race with swinging arms

hardcore doesn't bother me unless they are hitting other people... thats stupid. i think its really stupid that kids think just becuase they dance it means they are more hardcore than everyone else. it is really stupid. i also think its sad that kids dance at shows where there aren 't even breakdowns. its sad how commercialized its gotten. hardcore dance at a Since the Flood show not at Finch you ***s. and keep your hands to yourself unless you hit someone in the pit by accident thats cool. this whole subject really pisses me off

09/12/05, 01:06 PM
i hate hardcore dancing because, first of al--and this is just from an obersvant standpoint--it's distracting from the song becauser your focus inst on the band playing. also, it pisses me off because I'm very short and so when people break out into moshing near me i get shoved back and all over the place. and lastly, stupid kids abuse it all the time and i'm not talking hardcore shows here.
i have seen people hardcore-dancing to "Drunkship of Lanterns", which is more than enough for me to hate it.

Yeah, I remeber at the ...and you will know us by the trail of dead show, I hardly touched the ground at one point, the crowd just just pulsating.
Do you raise the roof a lot?
Oh yes, there is hardly a roof left in Oslo.
Actually, one difference, I think, is that more people show up at shows here, since bands very rarely come here, so there isn't even enough space to mosh. And everyone that shows up is all about the music and the band.
Tony Pascarella
09/12/05, 01:49 PM
There's a reason I hit chill shows much more often than other ones. If you hardcore dance, the indie kids will glare at you :)
I won't bitch someone out for it if they're keeping to themselves, but the minute they start hitting me or anyone else (usually it's the smaller people that get hurt), I sometimes let an errant elbow or two go in the mosh pit. I almost got into a fistfight with a kid at the FBR&F tour because he started hXc dancing and as a result, he nearly broke my friend's elbow (she was leaning against the barrier) and almost gave her a concussion (she's 5'1). The worst part is they think they're invincible and shit. No wonder some of the clubs have trouble with knives.

I mean, you go to a show and it’s a big time hardcore band and watch all the kids when the band goes on, they’ll just turn and watch the pit, instead of watching the bands.
this is the most true thing. and now especially the shows are all about watching your back. i always have to find a spot on the side of the stage.

When it gets in the way of the enjoyment of shows, it becomes a problem. I like to watch the band perform and not get hit in the face with a kick. Its gotten to the point where you have to watch half the band while watching youself to and keep your arm out to push away a bunch of kids that are punching the air. I just want to watch the band perform. Shows can be enjoyable by just singing along. Its fun to run up to the sing and have a crowd of people sing along but after that usually comes a lot of punching and kicking air.

Exactly. Its another way to enjoy the music. I used to do it three years ago. I think it was about a year ago is when it started to get ridiculous. There's a new form of "hip hop" dancing that's been catching on in LA and the surrounding areas, according to the news I saw in the summer. this is the most true thing. and now especially the shows are all about watching your back. i always have to find a spot on the side of the stage.yeah i hate it. as i said before, i'm wicked short so it's a pain in the ass when i'm like over five feet away form a pit and some fatass gets tossed in my general direction..
i'm actually surprised there isnt a whole lot of support for Hxc dancing. like i think there would be seeing as how everyone always give me shit because i hate hardcore music

idk i think its fun. its just a rush sorta sometimes.
but i HATE when some big tall ass fat kid gets in there and takes off his shirt and he thinks hes a hardass because no one wants to touch his big sweaty body. that should be outlawed.

there was a cock gobbler dancing during a treos show that I was at and he was all sweaty and he kept like running into me and the girl i was with and getting his nasty smelly ass sweat all over us. So I jacked him in the side of the face and he down. I didn't see him again for the rest of the show.

I don't understand how a group of kids all stand in a circle and just rapidly punch the air like they are clawing at some invisible monster. Haha.
And you thought air guitar was going out of style?

Yaaaaa! You heard of it, too?
Yeah. I remember seeing something about it a while ago. Don't they dress up like clowns or wear clown makeup or something? I think they even had a little section during the VMAs this year where they had some people doing it. I think there's a movie out there about it, too. It seems pretty weird.

Haha, I remember seeing a video of some guy that won on of those things. It was so ridiculous. Everyone seemed like they were taking it all seriously and cheering like crazy.

when it's done at a good hardcore show in a good hardcore scene, it's great. e.g. at an actual hardcore show and in a scene where everyone watches out for everyone else and shit.
if you fucking hardcore dance at a tbs show then you need to die, tbs have no place in hardcore or anything to do with hardcore dancing.

hXc is so much fun. but really only in my town though. i tried it in bigger towns such as atlanta amd those kids suck at life. maybe its cuz we've been doing it for a while. i used to hate dancing, but then i got into it and pretty much only went to shows to dance. most kids hate what they dont know. join a hXc band and play a show where everyone just stands there and watches ur band, then play a show where there are 30 kids fucking shit up to your breakdowns. then tell me how much dancing sucks. i know that people get hit, just watch out. most kids will try not to hit anyone, but there are crazy fucks that love to hit people. you just gotta watch out. there is nothing wrong with dancing. try it, its fun. i dont dance anymore due to breaking my arm twice due to dancing. yet, they were some of my fave shows. anterrabae and he is legend. dont hate what you dont know.

hxc dancing should be done only at harder shows. cause you expect it and encourage it then. anywhere else and it's just so fucking annoying.

let's see. once i had to throwdown at a Converge show. this one guy broke my glasses right there on my fucking face. that wasn't cool. so i went at it with him, and proceeded to get my shit rocked. BUT, it was worth the effort. i had to defend my shit. i can't really help the fact that i'm a small fuck (5' 8"/160lbs). but whatever, that's my sob story i guess.
as for the hXc dancing... uh, i guess i'm just used to it. so i'm immune to caring. i just find a spot i can watch my band from. like just last week at the Unearth/Dillinger show: this venue i went to JUST started opening up their 2nd story balcony--mezzanine level to the 21+ crowd. there's even a whole 'nother bar up there! it was sooo sweet! anyways, me and like 5 other guys started just freaking the fuck out up there in this like flat, railing'd off area. i think it was like the old handicapped seating area in this theater. lol, so i guess we made ourselved look handicapped! lol, but the good part is that this area bordered a whole end of the bar. so whenever we spilled our drinks, or just plain finished. we just had to stumble over there and lean on the end to order more! lol, anyways.
hXc dancing at the right shows is cool. hXc dancing in a somewhat responsible manner is also cool. and these kids that go fucking kung fu hXc just fucking mesmerize me. backflips and all this cool shit. alright, i'm shutting up.

please don't sit there and tell me that you guys hxc dance for the art form. Cause that's absolute bullshit. The only reason dumb fucks do that is cause they want to piss people off. I watched a guy jump into the air and punch an innocent bystander for no fucking reason....to NEW FOUND GLORY. The kid that got punched got pissed and suddenly 10 other hardcore dancers tried to fucking fight the poor kid. These are all kids who think they're being rebels by ruining everyone else's fun. If I could go into a mosh pit with an uzi I would totally blast every hardcore dancer away. It is the most annoying fucking shit I have ever encountered. Thank you.
