How many albums will Green Day's "21st Century Breakdown" sell in it's first week?
Let's not base this form on your opinion of the band, rather how many do you think this will actually sell?

i'd like them to sell more, i just don't have faith in people anymore for this sort of stuff. also, it's been a long time since american idiot so they'll have to have a huge single to amp people up again.

economy baby.

It'll obviously sell way less than American Idiot, but I think they'll sell enough to rank pretty high on Billboard.

0 - 400,000 and I don't think there's any way it will sell over that in the first week.

I still think over 400,000, just not much more than that...like someone said before, economy. The Green Day die hards will rush out to buy it, not to mention if their first single burns up the charts like American Idiot did...they've got a good shot at another blockbuster.

lol are you guys joking? ill be suprised if it sells 200,000. green day arn't as big as they used to be, and besides the fact no one buys cds anymore.

I know...wtf? Correct me if I'm wrong but fall out boy sold like a little more than 200,000 in the first week. And I think its safe to say green day kind of died off a lot and fall out boy are at the level they were at, if not bigger(feel free to call me out on this, idk the exact stats), and even if not, fall out boys album def got some good promotion and had some good singles. Its been like 5 years since american idiot came out. I'm not saying you can judge by just my brother... but at the time I think my brother and his friends were like 12.... they were all into green day/ blink/ all those punk bands and my mom and I would buy him all the green day merch we could find. But obviously his love for green day wore off as he got older and he got into new music and green day didn't put out any new music and he really isn't a fan anymore. I don't know, just something to consider that I'm sure a lot of people who bought american idiot weren't long lasting fans and I'm sure a lot of the novelty the band had wore off. Five years is a long time.. So green day has a bit of a challenge there.
Oh and amazing icon haha.
Anyways, ap should have a contest again where people guess how many albums they will sell and the winner gets a cd.

Why is the first option a spread of 400,000 albums, while the other options only include a range of 350,000 and 250,000? Silly poll.

400-750 but if anything shoot low on this. Record sales have been dropping like a stone, and I dont think many rock acts sell what they used to.

Less that 400,000. A lot less.

Apparently people are replacing "Green Day" with "N'sync" and "2009" with "2000". (No Strings Attached sold 2.4 million in its first week)
I wouldn't underestimate Green Day's fan base, it is monstrous. Some kids might have grown out of it, but there will be just as many newcomers I'm sure. Even with ALL that though, remember that even Kanye and people like that have sold 300K first week, and artists like that are the most popular of all.
Oh and amazing icon haha.
Thanks, it does rule.

As long as the winner doesn't have to get the Green Day CD as the prize.

I think everything you just said is correct lol. American Idiot was huge but it's not like all those people who bought it own the other GD records. I know some of my friends who pretty much just listen to rap went out and bought it. Guaranteed that doesn't happen again with this one.

they are pretty much the nirvana of this generation but american idiot had so much going for it as rveryone hated what the governement was doing and they were really the first ones to say something about it, not to mention american idiot as the first single was very catchy
but times have changed, people dont buy records, and popular music has changed, early 2000 it was pop punk that was all the craze, but thats shifted to powerpop
the only way theyll get over 400 000 is if the single is great and the sound is something new and fresh

Depending on how good the singles do beforehand I'd say between 300-500 thousand. If the singles do bad I''d say about 200,00

i have no doubt that it will at least be successful on an average level, but it looks like they're trying to reguritate American Idiot, which I wasnt a fan, and yeah it was cause it was preachy, I can listen to Bad Religion or somthing and it not bother me cause their music's always been that way, whether I agree or disagree with their views, but if alienating ppl was Green Day's goal of trying to prove how punk rock they are, then I guess they succeded, but from the looks of it they got even bigger and went from being one of the best pop-punk bands to just one of the douchiest acts in rock.
That having said, I'll always give them credit where its due, I mean Warning was definalty an awsome and mature release, and while Dookie was definatly a highlight in my musical history, Warning will probably have to take the place as my fav Green Day release, I mean Castaway, Misery, Blood, Sex & Booze, Macy's Day Parade, these are great songs! If they ever pick up where they left off with that album and up the antiy then of course I'll love it and I mean who knows this album might not be half-bad, but it doesnt look like that sadly.
Come on Blink! its time to be on top again!!

i misread the question...i thought it was asking total sales (not just first week) so i voted 400-750k...
i think it'll probably sell in the 80-125k range its first week

It's almost impossible to sell more than 400K these days, no matter how big you are. Expect somewhere between 200-250K, especially if they have a big single.

oh and i have been reading some of the posts and i would just like to add that green day has one of themost complicated fan bases. ppl who swear up and down that american idiot was the worst thing they have ever heard will still go out and by the record because they will always be rooting for them to return to their roots or whatever your complaint is with this band. i will buy this and i am sure i will love it, like the rest of their entire catolog

even with the economy,
there's absolutely no way that the cd will sell less than 500k in the first week. i promise you.

It's sad to know the no one likes owning physical copies, personally I think thats the best way to buy music. Especially when it is usually around the same price for a digital download (or I guess most people get it for free)

i'm kind of surprised anyone has voted for anything more than 400K. With the economy the way it is there's no way.

i doubt their gonna sell a lot. As everyone has been saying, the way the economy is everyone will prbly be pirating it. too bad you cant keep track of that. :-(

I'd say right about 300,000. 150-200,000 even if the single doesn't do so well (The single can't flop that bad - 21st Century Breakdown's very anticipated), if the single does extraordinarily well, (#1 rock, maybe even top 40), I'd say they could do 450,000.

This.
Now looking at this question a month and a half later, I think this will go well beyond 500,000. The Green Day international fan base is massive. This is already in the top 20 on itunes and amazon and thats two days after the pre-order became avalible. That is on top of all the people I'm sure have pre-ordered the pyhsical copy of the cd from the bands website.
