Coldplay's new album, X&Y, is exactly the same as A Rush of Blood to the Head and Parachutes. A Rush of Blood to the Head wasn't really that different from Parachutes either. I liked their new single (The Speed of Sound) the first time -- it was called Clocks. Talk about the least innovative band ever. All Chris Martin does is follow a formula -- he found one that worked when Yellow became a breakout hit, and he hasn't deviated from that formula since. Bands are supposed to grow over time, try new things, experiment with sounds that are different from their old material. I write songs on an acoustic guitar, and hell, I'm a thousand times more innovative than Coldplay if you ask me. As a matter of fact, I'm working on a song right now that totally rips on Colplay for all of the reasons I've mentioned above. It's almost finished -- it's called "I Liked Parachutes." Coldplay was a great band, with an emphasis on WAS. Now they're just recycling old material. They're one of the greatest disappointments in recent popular music.
People still love them though, because they don't realize they're really listening to Parachutes, and not X&Y.
The antithesis of everything Coldplay = Radiohead. Chris Martin knows this, and he sweats Thom Yorke in a big way, as he has voiced in many interviews. Bottom line: Coldplay sounds more like Oldplay now, and Radiohead rules.

i can agree with you on the fact that Radiohead rules, but X&Y sounding just like Parachutes? have you actually listened to them? you are just another case of a prejudiced music fan deliberately misinterpreting an album. please spend all your time in the Trash Talk forum...

At least you explained your opinion, but i'll have to totally disagree with you.

Parachutes was simple pop songs. Sure you may be able to write more inventive stuff than them, but that doesn't make for better songs.

Rush of Blood I thought was the band trying to be something like U2. To me it didn't work.

X&Y is fantastic. It's lush and expansive. The songs are for the most part very strong and Chris has pushed his vocal range. The tones are brilliant.

So I don't think you've really paid that much attention to the albums.

Eh, think what you guys wanna think, but I have listened to all three albums extensively -- I own all three. And I was greatly disappointed by the "same old sound" of X&Y. Don't tell me I haven't listened to the albums. I'm just not a Coldplay anymore. I mean, Fix You is a great song, but I'm really disappointed by the rest of the album.

np man, it really took me a long time to get into X&Y. I didn't start really enjoying it until like a month and a half after getting it.

Parachutes is a great album, but it is so depressing that I want to commit suicide every time I hear it.

I haven't heard the other two, although I don't like either of the singles from X&Y.

This my opinion so nobody freak out or anything but I personally HATE Coldplay. I think they are one of the most annoying bands ever. Any song I have heard from them sounds almost the same. The vocals never change and he can barely sing. And to me, the piano music sounds pretty close to the same keys in most songs. And don't try to say I haven't heard their albums because I have.

In closing, I am saying I was nowhere near impressed with Coldplay and I think they should just give up before they make any more shittier songs(which is hard to beat right now)

Ya because I know NOTHING of music. Shut up honestly, he can't sing very good and face it THEY JUST ARENT A GOOD BAND! So you stop being ignorant, and reading the first line of my comment it clearly says ITS MY OPINION, so before you go and say shit like that make sure you understand what the fuck you're talking about, I can express my feelings towards them however I want and I shouldn't get shit for having an opinion about something, let alone a band. Other way around, Saqib. Rush of Blood was half-half and Parachutes was slower.

I still think Rush is their strongest, with X&Y next, and Parachutes after that. I love A Rush of Blood to the Head, and X & Y is a beautiful record. Parachutes is very simple compared to those two. And please, Forsythe, write songs about other topics than just I hate (insert band) because they (insert vague reason). Talk about a formula.

Relax. I have tons of completely different types of songs, I just don't feel like telling you about them. My point was that I was so upset with Coldplay that it inspired me to write a song about them. And don't talk to me about using a formula, because Coldplay is one of the most formulaic bands out there. Like I said before: I liked The Speed of Sound the first time -- it was called Clocks.

Personally, Im not a big fan of coldplay either. But, im not going to trash them or anything coz you gotta keep an open mind with music. And i hate it when people trash bands that i like. Like, tons of people hate simple plan but they are my favourite band. I can see why they hate them but if they'd listen to them a bit more they'd probably see why tons of other people like them. So, even though i personally dont like coldplay, i think a couple of their songs are ok even though the songs can get on my nerves sometimes. Its just not nice to trash bands that you really dont know much about. But also consider that everybody has their personal opinion and everyones is going to be different and usually if people really hate a band they have a reason for it. SO dont say they are just a bunch of mindless people out there to trash.

eh, i like them. their lyrics are pretty laughable, but i think they're talented musicians. im never one to criticize similarities in songs, as long as i can enjoy them. Speed of Sound sounds similar to Clocks only in the same 4/4 time, at least to me. i find a lot of general individuality in all of their songs though. to their credit, i'm hard pressed to find another band that's really likened that sound that Coldplay have. They are quite original, as generic as many might find their songs to be when compard to one another. i don't understand how one can't be impressed with their live show, but that's cool. I still remember when they played politik at the grammy's that one year. amazing. to each his own though

all debate aside, if Coldplay ever got in a cock fight with the Doves, The Doves would kick their asses. it bugs me that those guys aren't huge yet.

if you think coldplay dont have a good live show, ill send you the live 2003 cd to shove in your face.

that aside coldplay writes really good lyrics and though it may not be as much of a dif from one cd to the next like say brand new did, but it still is different.

and whomever said he has a bad voice has no concept of signing. chris has huge range and one of the best voices around. i wouldn't say its as good as the guy from radiohead but nonetheless, his still trumps most out there.
