Yahoo.com (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050915/ap_en_mu/music_indie_rock) recently wrote an article on the growing independent music scene. Check it out.

With the success of groups like Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse and Bright Eyes, indie rock is seeping into the mainstream — a mixed blessing for a genre that prides itself on being underground.--Jake Coyle, Yahoo.com

Wow...that whole thing about majors distributing but giving artists creative rights is hot and is gonna influence a lot of bands to go major.

what bands do you think will go major for distribution?

Awesome, its coming true. I think the success of FOB and MCR an other bands have triggered people to look at other bands in their genre. I think rap is dying on mtv also

The author manages to point out the most obvious indie bands making impact today. Not the ones that need to be discussed.

Scott.

Which ones need to be discussed?

I see bands like mae, copeland, armor for sleep, motion city soundtrack going major for distribution if they have all rights...who do u see going?

that's a good article, but it just talks about the bands that people already know about.

Minusthejosh just summed up what I meant.

The scene. The genre. People need to make money to survive. So congrats to all those bands who are becoming successful.

this isn't a new thing.

"Alternative" got commodified too, to the point where bands like Nickelback got called Alt-Rock.

That's dumb. The bands listed don't pride themself on being underground.

Deathcab has had a whole slew of articles written about them lately... good for them. And they mentioned Arcade Fire and this morning I was reading some article about Billy Idol and he mentioned how he thinks Arcade Fire is one of the best new bands out there and he loves them. Crazy...

Copeland will sign to Sony/BMG, Mae will sign to Capitol or an EMI based label.

I don't think so. Only because of the target demogaphic.

I don't think so. Only because of the target demogaphic. Mae will sign to Capitol, I'd literally put $5k on that. They've been meeting with the label routinely and someting will definetly come out of it. Sony/BMG has first dibs on any Militia Group artist... I don't think they'd be stupid enough to pass up Copeland when the time comes.

i would not be surprised if mae did sign with capitol. mae is just getting bigger and bigger, this is the next expected step.

that's a good article, but it just talks about the bands that people already know about.

most of the people who visit this website know about these bands, but a majority of people have not even heard of them. it's great to see some of these bands get the recognition they deserve.

this is gonna be fucking amazing but obnoxious... itll be good b/c these bands will get a lot of recognition and at least some of the new fans will understand messages bands like say anything are sending, but also there will be a lot of dumbasses who go to concerts and sing along without knowing what the fuck theyre talking about... waste of venue space in my opinion, you should have to pass a test or something. also, when people start listening to this that have made fun of me for my musical taste i can give them a big fuck you and karate chop in the lower back

now lets see say anythings major label rerelease go platinum. w00t w00t.
