i'm already in the two leagues i'm going to be in. Justin's keeper and one with my friends. i don't think i could do more than that.
I'll join absolutely every league for any amount. I'm fed up of winning every year with my friends. If there's room anywhere, I'd like to join, including keeper leagues and all.

well in that league, Pujols, Braun, and Rollins are my 3 set in stone keepers. On the fence about keeping Nick Markakis or opting for two pitchers.
I'm up for a free league if there's an open spot.

yeah I was in 8. heh.
i'm down for all leagues except head to head categories. I'll do roto leagues or points. I'll run a pay league again if you guys can decide on the format - CBS Sportsline was fun but a little flawed, I would do it again because it was a fun format but it's not my first choice.

Markakis is a monster, and pitching is much easier to find in FA than hitting.

im thinking my keepers for that league will be Holliday, B. Phillips, Chipper, Johan, and Cliff Lee

yeah, they don't do it any other way and I can't find another fair way to do weekly lineups.
what needs to be fixed on CBS is they need to cap the amount of starts you can have in a week.

We did in football so I assume so.
I'm down for any league this year. I can run the free or AL/NL this year if we decide to go that route.
Scott Weber
02/12/09, 12:31 PM
I kind of liked the AL/NL leagues being a midseason/2nd half thing personally. I'm not as stoked on them if I have to do them from the beginning.
Chris M.
02/12/09, 12:33 PM
I think we need to set up a better scoring system though...the one I used for the AL league was wacky and the NL one made it extremely easy to rack up points depending on how many pitchers you had.

Pitchers would probably be too valuable then. You'd want to make QS something like 5-7 points instead. Look up the ratio of SP wins to SP QS and then reduce the win point value according to the ratio.

Scott Weber
02/15/09, 11:35 AM
it's 10 dollars and since their stattracker is about 10,000 times better than ESPN and CBS, it's not a big deal to pay 10 bucks for live scoring for 4 leagues.

I give Josh Hamilton and Milton Bradley for Beltran and McLouth
For my OF, I still have Quentin, Victorino, David Murphy and Rick Ankiel.

No. Hamilton's the best player in the deal. If you want to move him, get deeper somewhere else instead of continuing to stockpile OFs.

blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Had my first draft of the year last night for a league with guys from school that I've never played with before. It's a free league so I decided on taking a bunch of young risks:
C- Russell Martin
1B- Chris Davis
2B- Howie Kendrick
3B- Miguel Cabrera
SS- Stephen Drew
IF- Troy Tulowitzki
OF- Carlos Quentin
OF- Carlos Lee
OF- Matt Kemp
OF- Jay Bruce
Util- Chipper Jones
Bench: Andre Ethier, Nelson Cruz, Alex Gordon, Pablo Sandoval, Milton Bradley, Adam LaRoche, Adam Lind
Starters: Webb, Peavy, Liriano, Wainwright, Josh Johnson
Relievers: Joakim Soria, Capps, Wheeler, Reyes, Frank Francisco.

Satisfied with the team I put together. Only guy I missed out on that I really really wanted was Nick Markakis because of the value I thought I could have gotten from the pick and round I would have got him at...but I missed him by one pick.

That's a .965 OPS (he also had 12 homers and 36 RBI's in that time frame, as well, just pointing it out since it's a fantasy thread and I'm not a fantasy player).
Players last year with at least 250 plate appearances and a .965 OPS is exactly 8 (http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/shareit/wzdr):
Pujols, Chipper, Manny, Milton Bradley, Lance Berkman, Ryan Ludwick, Carlos Quentin and A-Rod.
I don't think Dukes will OPS that over the course of a full season, however, I'm comfortable in saying he'll out perform his .864 OPS from last year and post something in the .885-.900 range.

Shin Soo Choo, Clint Barmes, Elijah Dukes (if he's healthy), & Ricky Nolasco
But I think the real key is just being able to stay a little bit ahead of the curve when it comes to free agency. Aside from the first few draft picks, early season free agency is often what makes or breaks a team. I won my league last year and I only had one pitcher that I had originally drafted (of 10). DeRosa, Dempster, Volquez, McLouth, and Lidge were all found through free agency. Obvoiusly if the league is deep this is much harder to do... same with being involved with some keeper leagues.

H2H, 12 teams. I don't know what slot I drafted in, but here's what I ended up with

1B - James Loney, Paul Konerko
2B - Robinson Cano, Kaz Matsui
3B - Carlos Guillen (1b/3b), Aubrey Huff (1b/3b)

OF - Josh Hamilton, BJ Upton, Vlad Guerrero, Nick Markakis, Jeremy Hermida
Util - Cameron Maybin
SP - Jake Peavy, Chad Billingsley, Justin Verlander, Josh Johnson, Adam Wainwright

this year, draft OF early, catcher late, pitching late, don't draft any of the top closers, do what you can to get a top SS.
can anyone give me some tips/maybe if there is a weak spot give me some names of sleepers in the FA pool (hopefully). I am really awful at fantasy baseball so:
C-Russell Martin
1B-Carlos Pena
2B-Kazuo Matsui
3B-David Wright
SS-JJ Hardy
OF-Carlos Quentin
OF-Ichiro Suzuki
OF-Jacoby Ellsbury
Util-Andre Ethier
BN-Adam Jones
BN-Clint Barnes
SP-Cliff Lee
SP-Daisuke Matsuzaka
RP-Jose Arredondo
RP-Takashi Saito
P-Scott Kazmir
P-Zack Greinke
P-Andy Sonnanstine
BN-Brandon Morrow
BN-Kyle Lohse
BN-Hideki Okajima
How many teams in your league?
Relying on Kaz at 2nd would worry me the most. He doesn't stay healthy and his most useful asset is probably steals, which you've already got pretty well covered with the rest of your team. If guys with more upside like Mike Fontenot or Ian Stewart aren't available in FA, I'd see if I could swing a trade with someone who's got an extra mid-tier 2B.

I began to feel pretty confident I could win this league in Round 10 when someone drafted Ivan Rodriguez when guys like Wieters, Iannetta and Doumit were still available, and then told me he's a top five catcher in the league when I told him it was an awful pick. Someone else also told me that Raul Ibanez is a better all-around player than Jay Bruce.

Did you check out the fangraphs link I posted with my edited post?
Yeah, I read it. I still disagree and don't think their half-season 2007 ISO data is substantial enough, and they don't really even take into consideration the drop off in power when his ISO went away in the 2nd half. Essentially he's had 2 half hot seasons against an entire career of mediocre power - and at age 27, I'm inclined to believe the larger sample.
Ok, good to know. I still acquired him in a trade. I have him, Ryan Zimmerman, and Milton Bradley platooning the UTIL spot.
Should I start Ryan Zimmerman or keep Garrett Atkins starting? I think both these teams will hit better this year.
CubbyNick42
03/23/09, 10:31 AM
I like Zimmerman slightly more than Atkins, but that's damn close to a toss-up.
I also have Tulowitski starting for me at short, so I think that Adkins and Tulo will be a nice complement together. There's also more pressure on these 2 to produce runs without Matt Holliday gone.
Chris M.
03/23/09, 12:06 PM
You also have to figure Atkins may lose some at-bats in that crowded Colorado infield.
This is absolutely the worst week to be swamped with work. 2 drafts - both of which I may end up missing.
That's true.
Also weebs, what's the story with the M's closing situation? Is it Cordero, Morrow, Batista, or someone else?

I thought my draft went well. My offense is well rounded and while my pitching may not be the strongest, there's tons of upside in those players. I fully expect to improve upon my 10th place finish last year.

if anyone has a surplus of good OF, let me know. I think my OF is probably the weakest on my team and i have a good amount of quality starting pitching.

ok, i was just offered Derrick Lowe and Paul Maholm for Scott Kazmir. I'm leaning twoards no, but i'd just like to get some thoughts.

I've done that with my friends for fantasy hockey, but there's only 6 of us in the league, so I don't really think it's as fun as it would be with 10 or 12. I wish more of my friends were interested in fantasy sports to get legit keeper and pay leagues going - pay leagues aren't as fun when the most you can win is 65 dollars.

Hey, anyone wanna join another league on ESPN? I've got 4 slots I need to fill (that's what she said), so send me a PM with your e-mail address if you would like to join. 10 team head-to-head league, FYI.

I think this was the thread where Weebs was voicing his distaste of Nate McLouth and the Hardball Times has an article up about McLouth (http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/fantasy/article/smoke-and-mirrors-nate-mclouth/).
