I can think of several bands, not necessarily in the same genre as Underminded, that have 3 guitarists and it works. The only catch is the singer usually is one those guitars and since he knows he has 2 other guitars playing behind him, he gets lazy about playing his own.

i don't like that

It also worked for Plans For Revenge. Underminded made a smart move I think.... I'm anxious to hear new stuff.

i think you meant to say very rarely does anyone do this. They're respectable musicians and I dont think they'd get anyone not up to par with them. I'm excited!

I think 3 guitars becomes too much most of the time. The singer of my band is starting to play guitar at our practices and shows now but I dont want to piss him off by telling him how unnecasary it is. Oh well.

Beloved did a good job with three guitarists

Hot Rod Circuit played with three guitars last year on tour. It worked really well for them because all three were doing something different.

Which reminds me. They (HRC) have tour dates up at their myspace page and I submitted it but I guess it's just not news since it never got posted.

Does anyone know who is actually in HRC anymore?

I don't see how you can say it works very rarely. A lot of bands play with three guitarists, the only difference is they usually just refer to the third person as a touring member and not an actual band member.

doesnt a wilhelm scream have 3 as well, and they sure as hell pull it off

Take Heart

Haven't seen anybody mention this yet, but The Receiving End of Sirens has 3 guitarists, and boy do they ever pull it off. That said, I can't think of any other bands that don't let it overwhelm their sound.

relient k's three guitar assault sounded ridiculous because there were too many times when theyre all doing the same damn thing

bands with 3 guitarist that actually sound good just mean they're probably trained in music hteory and stuff....it's pretty hard to write a theme and then vary it 3 times. too much work for my blood at least. then again, you see alot've band with keys, then 2 guitarist, and that is essentially the same thing as 3 gutiarist(from a writing standpoint at least). HAHA USC LOST HAHA!

I want to see a band with three guitars where one does rhythm, one does lead, and one does crazy textury shit.

Oh wait... Radiohead.

It's just sad when a band adds another guitar and 90% of the time it just doubles up the chords or whatever.

Didn't Underminded Become A 3 Piece For A While?
I'm Sure I Went On There Website And There Were Photos Of Them Playing And There Only Being Three Of Them. Maybe One Was Ill? But Im Also Sure That I Looked At The Lineup And The Guy Playing Bass (for them as a 3 piece) Was The Guitarist That It Written Inside The Cd Inlay.

Maybe Im Just Going Crazy.

I Want To Hear New Stuff From Them But I Dunno What There Gonna Sound Like When Theres No Election Comming Up.

my band was trying to do this (with one guitarist doing almost entirely ebow), but with the style of music we're playing having one guitar dedicated to atmospherics became a bit much

Juliana theory does three guitars a lot. you just have to know what you're doing. it's not really that hard.

there was a time where it was just me and the two guitarists playing shows when we didnt have a bass player. nick wants to be able to interact with the crowd more on certain songs and we have been having a lot of ideas during our writing process right now where a third guitar would be necessary. so matty who is from canada is our third guitar player and we will be doing this upcomming tour with him.

I've seen A Wilhelm Scream twice. No three guitarists.

Terminal did it for a couple of songs, that worked.

A band like Beloved did AMAZING at it cause they had the spacey parts and the parts were all interspersed with each other.

For a metal-core band like Underminded, I doubt it'll work.
