Stars Paul Dano and Zooey Deschanel. Looks like it could be pretty sweet. Oh, and Zach Galifianakis is in there too. Sorry if this thread already exists.

I'm kind of wondering how large Zach G's part is in the movie. He is barely in the trailer.
I can't wait for this, but 500 Days of Summer looks much better

"Gigantic" - The movie "Gigantic" is an offbeat comedy revolving around Brian (Paul Dano), a mattress store worker who wants to adopt a Chinese baby. Brian meets Happy (Zooey Deschanel), a hot, potty-mouthed girl who he falls head over heels for. Together, they negotiate their increasing intimacy, and the appearances of their many eccentric relatives, as Brian awaits the call from the adoption agency.

IMDB says he is a homeless person, so I think it's safe to say he is just in it for comic relief.

Right now I am spending the summer in Texas b/c my parents decided to move out there a few months ago after I lived in Slower Lower DE for my whole life. I hope to make my glorious return next summer after I get done with the school year. I've really been missing the smell of chicken poop. Not sure if you get too much of that up in the capitol. I've always wondered this: how do you like going to a HS that could very easily be converted into a small university?

I hate Dover High. I probably wouldn't be any happier at CR or Polytech but I despise everything about my school. I actually almost used the term lower slower, haha. I live about five miles outside of Dover, near Hartly, amongst the Amish, so plenty of farm smells around here.

Yummy, I had a friend that lived in a pretty farmish place around there called Wyoming I believe. The only people that I knew at Dover HS were Aristotle Johnson and Matt Coston. Me and Matt battled it out at the state meet in the mile last yr and then I was able to take the win at the meet of champions at your school. Sick brag/story, huh?

HAHA! What a picture. He always cracked me up when we would get on the line at races. One time he said, "frick dude, why do you have to be here? We were just going to walk the whole race until the last 200 meters. If you don't do that, I'm going to get my knife and cut you" or "why do I run cross country? I'm the only black man that has to do this and sucks at basketball." Anyways tell him I said hi just in case I get too lazy to tell him myself on facebook. "Hey Aristotle, uhhh oncedarkness told me to tell you hey." Should work out great.

When I was in grade school I went to Calvary Christian Academy but since then I haven't. It was about an hour from where I live(d). Only for meets, really. I'm sure you haven't taken the pilgrimage to Laurel too often have you?

Can't say I've ever been there, haha. I've spent lots of time at the beach, the closest I've ever gotten to Laurel is Rehoboth. Its in the deep dark corner of Delaware.

Any 'quirky' movie like this. It's not the content, just how they do the trailer. It's kind of hard to explain.

And this I know
His teeth as white as snow
What a gas it was to see him
Walk her every day
Into a shady place
With her lips she said
She said
Hey Paul, Hey Paul, Hey Paul, let's have a ball
Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic
A big big love
Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic
A big big love
Lovely legs they are
What a big black mess
What a hunk of love
Walk her every day into a shady place
He's like the dark, but I'd want him
Hey Paul, Hey Paul, Hey Paul, let's have a ball
Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic
A big big love
Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic
A big big love
Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic
A big big love
Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic
A big big love

what a weird fuckin movie. zooey is gorgeous as usual (oo lala, and gets nudie, wasn't expecting that).
anyway, ya, i didn't get a lot of it, and i'm usually a sucker for these types of films. and the characters weren't as developed as much as i had hoped -- as in, i didn't really feel a real connection to any of em.
mediocre movie imo. somewhat disappointed.

exactly! after it showed paul dano fighting himself i figured he was going to get treatment for a mental condition or somethign but it just kind of never explains it.

I'm very torn about watching this, because I do like the cast, but after hearing things like:
"Inert, incompetent and emotionally fraudulent."
"I don't remember ever wanting to just haul out and punch a movie before Gigantic."
"Dano is a talented actor who needs to aim higher, and it should go without saying that Deschanel can do - and should know - better."
"Any resemblance the film bears to real people and real situations is purely coincidental."
I just get completely turned off. I know it's not smart to base choices on critics, but those are pretty...harsh.
this movie was bullshit when it came to the story, it was just hyped by the actors i met the writer/director and talked about the movie and tried to get in-depth. you can easily tell right away when he was answering questions half the shit.... all the shit in the film was meant to be vague with NO MEANING what so ever and he did his best trying to steer away from a direct answer or meaning like "well, you know the viewer is suppose to connect these nuances and stuff". as for Zach's role i think it meant to show a mental condition that's been haunting him for a while but when he's at this dads house it contradicts my entire assumption ... there's actual evidence of a bullet when they're in the woods it's a shame to see scripts like this given budgets using great talent like Paul Dano and the beauty of Zooey.

It took awhile to get good, large portions of it made no sense, and most of the characters were underdeveloped but I still fucking liked it a lot. It really was tailor made for my tastes and I'm sure I will like it even more after multiple viewings.
Like others have stated I don't get whatsup with Zach Galifinakis's character. You would think after getting beat up multiple times Brian would get a fucking gun
You can correct me if I'm wrong, but Galifinakis' character was to show that he was crazy and seeing things.

I dunno why people are so harsh on this movie. Sure, it's not realistic, but that doesn't mean it's bad.

08/27/09, 09:51 AM
I really tried to like the movie because I love Dano and have a big uber crush on Zooey Deschanel but it was just "meh." It would have made sense if Zack G was just a manifestation of Brian but that theory goes out the window when as said before, during the cabin scene when the bullet nearly hit his dad. All in all, there wasn't a point to his character and the script left a giant hole there.

just finished watching this for the first time... probably wont ever watch it again, but at least it killed some time while it was slow at work. but yeah, i felt like there was a lot of holes. oh well i guess. zooey is gorgeous so that made me happy at least.
