I was giving these guys some spins today, and I realized that we didn't have a thread for them, so I figured we could talk about them.
I will start with my favorite tracks on both albums: on I Call This Abandonment, I really enjoy Unrequited Love, and on Fiends, I really like Fiends and Zombies.

Unrequited love is by far my favorite track from them. Honestly though, I haven't listened to the newer album hardly at all.

I love Fiends. It makes me sad that they broke up.

I reviewed all 3 of their albums over here, so anyone who likes them should check those out ;-)

These guys really remind me of Boys Night Out somehow. Not really into their screamy stuff, but Ocean's Away is a fun song to jam to.
Edit: Woah, a lot of the comments on your I Call This Abandonment review are just wrong, haha.

Which ones? And Boys Night Out is actually a great call there probably. Never really given that band the time of day.
I have to agree with all the ones claiming it to be the best album of this style. Give it another chance and you might agree.

Fiends was above and beyond their previous works, by far. Though i admit it's less accessible.

I've been listening to these guys so much lately. Kings off of Fiends is the song I listen to most.

I agree with you there. I really miss these guys, talk about smart post-hardcore.

Is the rumor that they're making another record true?

Can someone confirm if any of these guys are now in the band Sons of God? I think I heard that somewhere.

Nah. I'm pretty sure Jason the guitarist for CV before Chris was with Sons of God for a short time.

Their cover of Jesus Freak was probably my favorite thing they ever did.

Agreed, though I don't think that's a compliment. I loved that cover and went to check out their music, and was very disappointed. I never gave Fiends a fair listen, though.

Yeah, it's pretty generic, Ocean's Away was a fun song, but other than that it was pretty boring. I never checked out Fiends either, but I don't really have much of a desire to.

Fiends is such a great record, not like any of that generic hardore/screamo out there now, it had a good southern rock feel to it. I also have been hearing rumors that they are recording a new record.

Meh. I always associated them with Dead Poetic who was VASTLY underrated compared to CV

Yeah, I kinda knew this. You even got to play bass and scream in some totally awesome scene band, right? I guess I'm just too used to modern non-scene Todd.
Also, I first heard Chasing Victory on the tail end of my, "This band both sings and screams; how awesome is that!?" stage, so that might be a factor.

Yup. Scene Todd looked so good in eyeliner.

I used to wish I was scene in high school, but my body build, curly hair, and laziness kept me from pursuing that dream. Conveniently enough, these same traits make me perfect for the faux-grunge hipster trend.

Never actually checked out Vices. I enjoyed their first two albums and I know the final one was a little different but I still have no idea why I never got round to listening. Well... I do... I ran out of money! But still, Dead Poetic were the first band I saw live. I should have given it a go.

Well, for anyone who cares. The drummer, vocalist, and old guitarist have a new band called Astoria. It's way different kinda like Maroon 5ish.

Most bands I listen to are from the US. You're forgetting that the internet has reduced the size of this planet.
They were on Mono vs. Stereo too which was always a pretty awesome record label.

It's been resurrected by Relient K and Deas Vail I believe. Which makes it still awesome.

It's highly under-appreciated. They dropped that often obnoxious screaming and became a really tight alternative rock band, which is clearly what they were meant to be. It's a shame that they imploded before the album even hit stores.

Astoria talked about it on their facebook post, can't see why they would lie
Checking out their last, Fiends. Not bad, kind of weak at times.
Is their older material any better?

I would say their first album (I Call This Abandonment) is more generic than Fiends. It's still pretty good hardcore with southern influences, but Fiends blows it out of the water. I still love Fiends. I think it's a great record. I miss this band tons.

Posted on Astoria's facebook :
As far as Chasing Victory goes: The comeback is a no go. All 5 members of CV actually met up last weekend at Chris Cargile's wedding. We talked a little bit about it and came to the conclusion that a comeback was impractical. In lieu of beating a dead horse, I'm going to say it is not EVER going to happen. Sorry, guys. I have a CV song that I wrote and recorded at my house that I may post on this page someday. But don't fret guys and gals, there is plenty of music to come from Astoria.
Bummed...
