LUDO TO RELEASE BROKEN BRIDE EP
Rock Opera Showcases Creativity of St. Louis Rock Band
St. Louis, MO, September 12—St. Louis band Ludo writes intelligent rock music, ranging in theme from unrequited love to social isolation to high school mythology. The songs are united by clever, engaging, often hilarious lyrics and front man Andrew Volpe’s unique story-telling ability.
As Ludo began writing the music for the follow-up to their self-titled debut release, a storyline emerged and slowly became the theme for Ludo’s Broken Bride EP.
With a street date of September 27th, Broken Bride is a rock opera about a man whose wife dies in a car accident in 1989, and spends the next fifteen years creating a time machine to go back in time and save her. Ludo will celebrate the release with a show in their hometown of St. Louis at Mississippi Nights (a venue they recently sold out) on Friday, September 30. Tickets for the all ages show are $10, with a $2 surcharge for those under 21, and doors open at 7 p.m.
In addition, Pure Volume is sponsoring Ludo’s fall tour dates, and is featuring the EP’s first track on its homepage. Broken Bride is currently available for pre-order on the band’s website at www.ludorock.com.
“It takes a band with the level of creativity that Ludo has to be able to fully conceive and execute an intricate concept such as Broken Bride,” says Noah Dinkin of Invasion Group management. “The band’s focus and tremendous effort is very evident in this project.”
Moog player and vocalist Tim Convy is excited about the project as well. “When we started playing “Broken Bride” live, people really reacted. We knew the concept was something we wanted to pursue, so we put the other songs on the back burner, started telling this story, and when it was all over we basically had written a new album. We are as excited about this as anything we've ever done.”
In the past two years, Ludo has brought their heavy-humored, high-energy rock show from New York to Los Angeles (including showcases at CMJ and South By Southwest), gaining new fans at every stop. They won Fuse TV’s “Next Big Thing” award this past November, previous winners of which include Modest Mouse and Yellowcard. Ludo also has recently performed at ESPN’s X-Games in Aspen, as well as the Vans Warped Tour, mtvU Spring Break, Florida Music Festival, Indiana State Fair and Nebraska State Fair.
"Our goal?" asks Volpe. "To entertain people without making them dumber!" Perhaps it's his way with words along with the band's commitment to achieving that goal that has made Ludo so successful in the short time they've been together. Ludo also boasts one of the most ambitious and aggressive street teams on the independent music scene. The "Ludo Ninjas," a unit over 400 strong, span the country and help with grass-roots promotion, online activity, radio campaigns and possibly holding program directors hostage. The ninjas are as much a part of Ludo as the cherries that hang from the "D" in the band's logo.
