so this is the show that was rumored to be The Office spinoff? it looks interesting to say the least. from wiki:
The series follows Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), the head of the Parks and Recreation department in Pawnee, Indiana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana).[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parks_and_Recreation#cite_note-Poehler_Indiana-2) Knope takes on a project from a nurse named Ann to turn a construction pit into a park, while trying to mentor a bored college-aged intern.
Aziz Ansari and Rashida Jones are also in it. premiers on April 9th. anyone curious? I'll definetly be watching
sorry if there's already a thread for this. the search brought up nothing

I was going to start this a few days ago but never did. I think with what I've seen and the cast being what it is, it could be really funny. I'm looking forward to it.

Well, I don't know about that.
Don't forget that Chris Pratt is in it this too. If anyone saw Everwood, you should know how good/funny he is.
I remember reading about the cast a while ago, I mean, Poehler, Aziz and Rashida.
So good.

I'm pretty confident that this will be better than the OfficeWhich Office do you mean? There's no chance that this beats The Office circa season 1-3. It's pretty much already beat seasons 4-5 though regardless of how it turns out.
I've yet to see many previews for this show but the premise is a bit strange. I can't see how they're going to get 4-5 seasons out of it. They would've been better off pitching this show to HBO where they won't be pressured by an NBC-like network to squeeze the life out of it.

I'll watch, because Poehler can be funny... but it essentially looks as if she's going to be a female version of Michael. So I don't know how long I can handle that before it gets irritating.

I'm going to try as hard as possible not to draw too many judgments on this show based on the first episode...What really makes The Office so lovable is how the story lines all played out, in my opinion. I think its only fair to see how the story lines of this show play out before making too much of an assessment.

Am I the only person who found that painfully unfunny? In fact, I found (up to 30 Rock) 87 of NBC's 90 minutes of comedy tonight painfully unfunny. The last three minutes of the Office gave me a TINY glimmer of hope for the future.

04/09/09, 07:33 PM
It was awkward the whole time due to the extreme similarity between this and The Office. (Leslie Knope=a very poor man's Michael Scott) If Rashida Jones weren't a different person, this could be The Office: Parks & Recreation. However, it is still slightly entertaining, and I will continue watching to see what happens.

Ya the shotgun was great. "Whenever anyone asks me anything they have to stair straight down the barrell of a sawn-off shotgun." Plus, every word that Aziz Ansari said was pure hilarity. When he's hitting on Rashida's character and when he's describing how drunk Amy Pohler's character gets is just awesome. I bet most of his stuff is improv too cause that was just too awesome.

Just watched the first episode finally. I actually liked it a lot. Leslie is very Michael Scott-ish, but it fits her and Poehler's own comic style. Aziz is kind of like Jim and Dwight rolled into one, and since he's sort of a smarmy douche, I like that contrast to Leslie.
All in all, I didn't get a huge laugh out of anything, but I chuckled frequently... which is more than I can say for most other comedies out there.

I caught the premiere before The Office tonight - I thought it was alot better than the pilot, which was the only other episode of this show I saw. Might have to go back and watch Season 1 so I can catch up.

Think so? I personally think its just a rip off of the office and not as funny. Still better than a lot of other comedies, and I have a huge crush on Rashida Jones, but I just don't think the show is that funny.

Parks is supposed to seem similar to The Office, plus both shows have a few people in common, mainly the co-creator I think. I guess at this point with both The Office and Parks, I find Parks to be the funnier show. I'd definitely be sad to see it go, if it does.

This show and Community have sucked me in to the point that I look forward to them just as much as the Office. I still really like the Office, but except for the wedding episode these two have been more consistently funny lately.
i want to like this show, but i just don't laugh at any of the jokes. aziz is just annoying, and leslie is just a michael scott wannabe (don't talk about michael scott is a wannabe david brent, etc....)
the only person i like in the show is louis ck. and i'm not even a fan of his comedy, it just seems that he has the best lines/acts better than everyone else.

God this show is damn funny. It's taken a huge leap in its second season, to the point where I think it's funnier than everything else NBC is running. Community, this, The Office and 30 Rock are going to be a deadly combo.
Also, to me, not only is Leslie not a Michael Scott clone, she is a better character. She brings way less negatives to the table than Michael does. Michael was almost unbearable during the wedding episode. He's become a caraciture.

idk, she just seems like a michael scott lite. like him if he was a chick, and slightly less selfish.

I honestly cannot even watch Michael at times. He's not even a jerk. He's just stupid and doesn't even act like a human being, and the mere fact that he is so terrible at his job makes it absurd that he still exists.

Agree that this show is fantastic. The key to this show is getting every cast member involved, like last night. Andy was great last night. His interrogation was the best. He pretends to throw coffee in the kid's face then smashes the cup against the wall. haha. Plus when the kid makes him cry. He had great lines last night. I wonder how they are going to keep him around since he's no longer with Ann and the pit's filled up.
I also really like that they dropped the whole Leslie/Mark love story. I was worried that they were going to keep dragging it out.

This show has stepped its game up considerably. Last night's episode was the best of I've seen so far, and it is better than any recent Office episode ("recent" might stretch back a few seasons). I think it's good for the same reasons The Office is (or if you don't care for it now, was) so good. It's able to make funny jokes while developing its characters and their nuances. Like the episode last night, it somehow found a way to make a character dealing with post-divorce depression funny. It gives its characters genuine feeling so even when it's not firing on all cylinders, it's still enjoyable. I think it originally got a bad rep for being a bland Office knock-off, but has since come out of that shadow with this solid season.
As for why you don't find it funny - I don't know. Comedy is subjective.

“Parks and Recreation is the Wu Tang of comedy. an ensemble cast of which all the cast shines.” - Questlove
I nominate that to be on the cover of the Season 2 DVD if possible. Later, Quest broke down who is who in the analogy and the results are pretty spot on IMO:
Leslie/Poehler = The Rza
Tom/Aziz = ODB
Ann/Rashida = Method Man
Ron/Nick Offerman = Ghostface Killah
Andy/Chris = Raekwon
Mark Brendanawicz/Paul = Inspectah Deck
April/Aubrey = Gza
Jerry/Jim = Masta Killa
Donna/Retta = U-God
Dave/Louis CK = Redman
