Make sure to ask if the store has it, if you're looking for it that is. O, and this goes for all the CDs you're looking for.

The only time I have had a problem with Best Buy is when I have gone to get an album on the release date, and they havent shelved it yet. Usually its on a cart somewhere in the cd section though, and I either find it myself or make one of their blue-shirted monekys find it. Dont take their shit, just keep telling them its out, and you know they have it because you checked availability online. It works wonders.

Tate is right though, all you have to do is ask an employee and they should be more than happy to track it down for you. A little tip though, ask them to check their inventory computer first before they go searching around. Some of them can get lazy and look for it and give up very quickly if they can't find it and tell you that they just didnt get it in. It sucks, but not everyone does their job properly. Most of the stuff that we on this page listen to un fortunately BBY only gets 1-10 copies (Nightmare of You we got 1 copy and Cartel we got 3) and on New Release Tuesdays the more mainstream stuff and anything posted in the weeks advertisement gets the first priority. Most of the "obscure" stuff won't get put out until late in the afternoon. The reason it might take them a while to find it is that their are literally probably 30 or more boxes contaning other CD's and DVD's. The boxes are not labeled with anything except street dates. Try finding 3 CD's in a pile of 300 or more DVD' and CD's. It's kinda tough. Sorry, gotta stick up for my peeps!

Most BBY Media departments only have two or three people working on said morning. They start at 7am and have to put new signage, redo planograms in all cases, and put out all the new CD's, DVD's, VIdeo Games and Software for the week. Like I said.....I don't expect you to understand why any of that takes so long.

I used the TMGStore preorder and got it last week.

But as far as Best Buy goes, they are very lazy in their procedures. I had a problem finding the Arrested Development DVDs a while back, and the woman told me they "hadn't had time to restock the shelves" or some lameass reason like that.
I see at least 7 people standing around that section in their BB getup, and they are doing nothing.
I'm pretty sure they've got some time to kill.

But I will give props to the guy in the Video Game department of the Roseville, MI Best Buy for getting me two PS2 controllers for $20.

They've been pretty good to me. When I first started ordering from both places, I'd get stuff no later then 2 days after I ordered. The problem I have is they don't email you to tell you something is not in stock. I waited over a month to get my Houston Calls (actually, it's on it's way now from a 7/21 order date) because it was being shipped with something that never came in stock. I emailed them multiple times and finally got fed up with not being answered, so I called and got it all sorted out. I recommend calling smartpunk, don't even bother emailing.

i used to work at best buy and they have the WORST system for getting new CDs out on the shelves. in the back, there are seriously stacks and stacks of CDs that need to go out and nobody does it because its too time consuming. and its all in random order so its really hard to find a specific CD in the back.

blue shirted monkeys? don't be a dick, man. and how do you figure it's "fake looking it up", as well. i mean, if you physically see someone say, "i'll look it up", and they just do a lap around the CD section and come back and give you a bullshit answer, then you have every right to be pissed. but, do any of you guys actually know the process of looking up a specific album at best buy? it's actually rather quick, it's the process of typing the album in, and if our inventory system says, "Zero On Hand", then 99.9% of the time, we have zero on hand. that's all it takes. by the way, for the record, it says "available online in most stores", and since best buys are segmented for different types of customers, certain stores aren't completely media-centered. and it's not us, it's the distribution, but i am personally working to fix this stuff in my store, because all i ever get from people like you guys are complaints.

we are a store, not a haven for whatever music it is that you desire, because we still run a business, and it makes much more sense to stock an album that will potentially sell much more than Horse The Band. I love Horse The Band, and I think it sucks that best buy doesn't stock it. We don't stock a lot of "good" (according to my tastes) music, because music I like won't sell. For the most part, the "different" music that you all like may not sell, either. I doubt you'd see a Kayo Dot album in a Best Buy, nor would you ever see A Day In Black In White or Lock And Key or Lullaby For The Working Class or Owen, and I think it sucks, but it's all about a platform that we have to adhere to. I will also admit to you guys that our media teams aren't the most knowledgable about music, but for the most part, best buy doesn't hire people based on their musical tastes, guidance, or knowledge, they hire on their work ethic, and if their ethic isn't there, then that's when an issue begins to come up.

what you guys DON'T know is that best buy sees this as an issue and is working on a program that will hopefully deal with some of these issues and make the media experience a little bit more positive for everyone.

but, you guys really have to take this all with a grain of salt. i'm sorry for being such a jerk about it, but i hate it when people bash this chain of stores, because we have much more of an extensive music section than most other multiple-item retail stores. I mean, take a look in circuit city or comp usa or target or walmart, or any of those places. we have a much more varied selection, and in reality, if you're looking for an obscure CD like cartel or horse the band, why wouldn't you just go to a music store? i mean, we are aiming to change that, I want you guys to come to best buy and take advantage of the ridiculous prices we sell stuff at, but we aren't just a music store. think of it on a different scale. if we stocked an incredibly obscure CD. let's say like...a Schatzi CD. I love Schatzi. However, if we stocked that, why wouldn't we stock some obscure appliances? or what about obscure japanese digital cameras? and b-list films and german mp3 players and transylvanian VCRs, and hybrid subwoofers and siemens cell phones. granted, that's incredibly extreme, but it has that sort of detrimental scale.

i will give you guys an opportunity, if you'd like, to IM me and tell me what you think best buy should carry that we don't, what we should stock more of, and what we should stock less of. and try to think with a little bit of a business perspective, and keep in mind the current trends of music and such, and what's popular and what isn't. for instance, i will whole-heartedly admit that the Cartel album, if marketed right in best buy, would sell like CRAZY. it's what people enjoy - pop rock. HTB? how would that fit in to the normal demographic and music tastes? It wouldn't. So, any input is incredibly appreciated.

Yeah, I went to Best Buy this morning to pick up this, the new Coheed album, and Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. Chroma wasn't out on the shelves and I had to go to Gamestop to pick up Shaolin Monks since they didn't have that either. I came home and checked the best buy website. It said that very store had copies of the new Cartel album. So a few hours ago I had some errands to run, so I ran by Best Buy and sure enough...I finally found it there. Weird thing is they only had two copies...well only one now, heh.

best buy had the plastic marker, but they couldn't find the cd even though the website said they'd have it. i checked target just cuz i happened to be there, & maybe i'd be pleasantly surprised, but of course i wasn't. after seeing this post, i went to amoeba. their shipment hasn't arrived. (wtf!? has someone hijacked shipments of 'chroma'?) as i headed down telegraph feeling completely dejected i saw a shining beacon of hope: rasputin music. i finally found the paramore album, but still no cartel. now i have to study. i feel like the saddest girl in all of berkeley.

I used to manage a record store in new jersey called compact disc world. We were located in an area that was into this scene. I would always go out of my way to make sure we had enough copies and call up our distibution warehouse to ensure the releases would be their. Yes Best Buy employees are lazy FUCKS, but most cds are their and follow the employees to the computer and make sure they are typing it into the computer. The one by me actually had everything i wanted except Cartel, which was sold out. I picked it up at Coconuts for a dollar more. I know the employees their hate me but they should be happy that i'm giving them my money despite them being a bunch of ass clowns.

I am fuckin pissed off about CD shops too, all we have down here is Sanity and HMV and they never ever ever have any decent CD's! Just fuckin rap and teenybopper shit is all they have. I hate teenage girls they control the world!!! You have to drive half an hour and pay ten bucks for parking just to go to the indepent stores if you want anything. Man, I went into a best buy today and asked for the epitaph tour dvd. The employee asked me for the name of a band on the dvd and I said Motion City Soundtrack. She looked them up and was like "Well, we have their cd...". Uh duh! I don't want their cd, I wanted to see if they had the dvd they were featured on....

yeah i went today and i looked for the audition cd and i didn't see it. so i went to ask somebody who works there if they had it and she went in the back and found i believe the only one they had. they didn't have the cartel on the shelf so i knew there was no way in hell they would have horse the band.
