One of my friends told me her opinion on people's sexuality and the labels we put on them.

She believes that calling someone "gay" or "bisexual" or "straight" is unnecessary. According to her ideas we shouldn't have specific labels for who we fall in love with.

She bases her ideas off of the Hedwig theory from the movie "Hedwig and the angry inch". I haven't personally seen this movie, so Im not precisely sure what all it is about.

Basically her conclusion is as follows

"When we fall in love we shouldn't be thinking about if it is a man or a woman, we should think of their heart and their personality and if we are attracted to them in that way. The United States is based way too much on sex, why can't it be about love? I think that we shouldn't have "gays" or "bisexuals" or "straights" I think we should just have People. If you fall in love with a guy, then you fall in love with a guy. If you fall in love with a girl, you fall in love with a girl. It shouldn't really matter. Further more, there is no such thing as "bisexuals". Sure you can be attracted to both, but in the end your either going to marry women or "partner" with a man, so you must choose one over the other, which will determine your sexuality."

Give me some feedback on what you think about this theory. I am still considering what was said and haven't fully formulated my opinion.

I would never judge a person based on their sexual preferences, and I hold myself in higher regard than anyone that is ignorant enough to do the opposite.

and now my opinion.

I kind of agree.

Only.

I know for myself, I only find myself attracted to girls. AND, I think LOTS(not all) people(especially lots of girls) act gay for attention. Especially when their teenagers.

But that's just me.

Alright, so I'll stop being an asshole and I'll actually add my own input into this matter. I agree 100%. I feel by labeling people we put them in a corner and it's almost as though they have to be what we said they are. Frankly, I feel by labeling someone as "gay" or "lesbian" that all they become to everyone else when I'm sure there's so much more to that person's personality. I feel like people shouldn't be attracted to someone just because of the sex they are, but just by the way that person makes them feel. I don't know, bottom line is I think labels are stupid because they pigeon hole people.

I will agree with your comment on acting gay for attention. I am so sick and tired of seeing slutty ass drunk girls making out with each other so the guys will be all over them. It's just ridiculous and stupid.

My friend used to say the same thing. She didn't believe in limiting herself to one sex because she wanted to find her "soulmate". I think if someone can be that open then it's really amazing. But then again, I don't think a lot of us could really try to overlook our "preferences". This applies to someone that's gay, too.

It has worked out, somehow. I've known of some people that were straight and married the same sex, or someone that was gay and married the opposite sex.
