View Full Version : Good Tape/Voice Records?
What is a good tape recorder for recording lectures in class? Preferably under 200 dollars...

A friend of mine recently looked into a few recorders, and eventually decided upon the Olympus DS-30. He seems to be fairly satisfied with it. Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-DS-30-Digital-Voice-Recorder/dp/B000MSDL6K
Hopefully that will suit your needs, considering you're still looking for one.

^^ I have the upgraded one, the DS-40, and I love it. It's worth the extra 50 bucks for double the space since Olympus doesn't use memory cards. I can only fit about a week and a half to two weeks worth of lectures as is. I think everything else about the two are the same.
The sound quality is great- the only thing to be careful about, and I believe this is with most voice recorders, is that you can't put them on the surface you're writing on, all you'll be able to hear is the sound of your pen. Use it on St HQ since ST XQ will basically record every movement of your hand, people coughing, sneezing, etc.
If you want I can try to upload a lecture I've recorded with it.
edit: I realized the price has dropped about 75 dollars since I got mine 2 years ago, so there's more like a $3 difference between the 2. go with the DS-40 for sure!

whichever you go with, get something digital with a USB in/out so you don't have to deal with tapes, can always re-record, and can use it on any computer for great record of your notes. Extra awesome for ideas you want to remember while driving.
I think there's probably an iphone app too.
