Thrice (www.thrice.net) posted "The Earth Will Shake" on their Myspace.com (www.myspace.com/thrice) page. The band's new record, Vheissu, hits shelves on October 18th, but you know that already.

I'm sitting in my room with the lights off and that chanting part is fucking creepy as fuck. Amazing song.
Bah. I can't stand listening to part of an album for a few weeks and then when you get the real deal you skip over those tracks everytime. Totally spoils it..this is why I wait for the full thing.

it absolutely sickens me that they completely stole, excuse me, 'based the song on' the alan lomax recording of old alabama. what sickens me even more is that someone will stand up for them because 'oh, they said they based the song on an old prison song blah blah blah' sorry, that doesn't excuse unoriginality. since when did 'emo' or 'screamo' or whatever the hell you want to call it take a page from hip hop and start lifting songs?

probably around the time the rolling stones were ripping off blues riffs.
what other heavy band can you see being as creative as what thrice seems to be doing on this record?

It reminds me of "O Brother Where Art Thou" more than it does "Old Alabama" ...
Elvis, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who .... all famous for "ripping off" (as you put it), other artists. If you want to be original, go drag a mic down the road or something.

so, because it was done before, that makes it ok? elvis i'll give you, elvis was the britney spears of his time. shit, all white people in the 40's and 50's did was steal from black artists. the stones, the beatles, the who, maybe they played a guitar riff or something similar to a blues band but (and maybe i'm wrong), i don't ever remember them just taking a well-known recording, bookending it with an isis song and calling it their own. granted, isis wasn't around back then, but you get my point. the beatles' recording of 'twist and shout' doesn't say 'lennon/mccartney' after it, it says 'russell/medley.' i mean, hey, if thrice's recording gives credit where credit is due, then i'll retract my statement. but i have a feeling it won't.
as far as the 'drag a mic down the road' comment, i'm pretty sure wolfeyes does something similar to that or at least it sounds that way. and then they tie cats' tails to ceiling fans and let the hilarity ensue.
