Is studying economics important?

Okay, so here's the deal. I'm taking economics in school right now, and we have to write a paper. To get a good grade on this paper we have to ask people "if they think studying economics is important and why or why not." So, I'm asking people on this site. What do you guys think? I'm assuming you're still in high school so it must be a very general econ. course. Of course the subject matter is important. If you end up taking a similar course in college, you'll understand why. As a business major myself, it helps tremendously with understanding supply & demand. How much is being sold at what cost helps any business with tracking sales. It helps you get an idea of how money actually "works" in the real world.
