View Full Version : RIP Troubled Hubble
The Fix

Well, I submitted this as news like 2 days ago, but this website never reported on this band when they were around, so I don't know what expected me to report their breakup...This one really kills me, i'm really sad to see these guys go, especially for health and financial reasons, it's just not right
maybe if this website actually spent some time reporting on a band like hubble, instead of sucking off a bunch of medoicre bands to the tune of like 10 stories a week (i'm looking at you, cartel...you too june), they could've made it...
so if you've never heard them, take the time to listen...

Oh man, that totally sucks. I booked these guys down here last year, to one of the best shows I have ever seen. They toured with Show Is The Rainbow (amazing) and even had a painter while they were playing.
Just wonderful.
I will miss them much.

You're definition of the word "mediocre" may be different then somebody elses, and just bc you like this band, doesn't constitute it being posted. it doesn't matter if a band is "mediocre" or not, what matters is, how many kids would take interest in the news post? There's a million unsigned bands I love, but my job on this website is to post stuff that the average visitor will read and find interest in, not stuff that I like. June was signed to a huge independent label before they were posted about, in other words, they worked their asses off to get signed before they were helped out by websites and other companies. If hubble were signed to a Victory Records or Tooth And Nail and worked their asses off to get signed like June did, they would've been noticed and recognized. You say in your post, "They could've made it if they were posted about on website"...but 99.9% of the bands we post about, have already "made it" (been signed, picked up an agent and a manager) WAY before we post about them...just like June. If a band needs this website to "make" a career for them, then they really shouldn't have a career in music to begin with. Sorry this sounds so harsh, but it's just how it works, and there's not way of wording it so that it doesn't sound shitty.

I completely understand why Hubble prob didn't get posted here alot. They didn't NEED posting here to be great. I mean, they had great followings in select areas and could definately bring out a crowd where we lived.
I will say, I don't agree completely with Frank's views in that last post, but he's right when you prob can't really post what he is trying to say and not come off like an ass. Then again, some bands suck total ass and get signed, not cause they worked their asses off, but because they sucked the right cock, or just had enough money.
I won't name those bands, I think most of us can figure them out.

Here is the general jist of it.
When I am making news posts, I read the post and say to myself..."will the average visitor find this interesting". Honestly, would the average viewer find a news post about Hubble interesting? I mean, I don't like bands like Underoath, Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance, and I agree, June is just mediocre... but my opinion doesn't matter! What matters is how many kids would really find the post informing and interesting. I can't allow my opinion of a band to overshadow the fact that a lot of kids might enjoy them (example: Fall out Boy).

I'm with ya buddy.
That's why I sometimes book bands I think suck ass. They bring kids out. They'll make money.
It's along the same lines. I can't always just book bands I like, cause alot of times, no one has heard of them, and no one will come out.

So true. I mean, I really wish I could help out every band in the world (especially the ones that I really enjoy). But it would just be bias and selfish of me to focus all of my attention to the band's I like, and not to the ones a majority of the people in the world take interest in. I wish I could help out all of the little guys, and it's so hard to pick and choose what to post and what not to. The only way to really do it (without being bias) is to post about the stuff most kids have heard about, and most kids have heard about bands who have record labels behind them, since record labels have lots of $$ in promotion and marketing. It sucks, and if anybody has any ideas as to how I can possibly help a lot of smaller bands, let me know.
Note: I scan through about 150 emails and IM's every day from unsigned bands wanting their news posted, which makes it even harder to pick and choose which ones to post about.

Troubled Hubble was on Lookout Records, so it's not like they were some unknown small time band, all they needed was a break...and i think if somebody here would've given them a chance, alot of kids would've dug them
all i'm saying is that there's alot of bullshit posted here...lame ass inside jokes, whatever is on jason tate's mind, or what the roadie for my chemical romance told somebody about a tour that could happen next year blahblahblah...meanwhile, there's bands that deserve some pub and press, and they get dick

Lookout Records is going under, so Hubble is, and was, as good as unsigned. It's not up to me or you what bands "deserve" to get press, it's up to the mass audiences. Also, those "lame ass inside jokes" get 100+ posts every single time they're posted... and like I said before, interest is what matters, whether you and I disagree with it or not.

i would love to know how on earth the "mass audiences" of this websit wouldn't love this band...seriously, have you ever heard them?

well, here's some news that didn't get posted either (and i'm not blaming anyone, i figured it wouldn't bc it's more metal than anything else)
I can't check my myspace to get the actual bulletin but PsyOpus is looking for a new drummer. The bulletin had all the info about the requirements, if anyone's interested i'll post it later. (although i doubt anyone is, and that's why it didn't get posted)

I've said this ten times now. It doesn't matter if the mass audiences WOULD love them, because in my humble opinion, there's a million bands on this planet that the mass audiences "would love". We post about stuff that mass audiences DO love... see the difference, "Do" as opposed to "Would". Our job is not to turn a million kids a day onto bands, our job is to report INTERESTING NEWS on bands that millions of kids have already been turned onto on their own. I can literally name 150 unsigned bands who I think mass audiences would love, but I don't post about them unless they make a name for themselves, and unless mass audiences hear about them through touring, hard work and push from their label. This is the last time I'm saying it...
My job is not to turn people onto Hubble, my job is to post news on Hubble once they've turned kids onto them themselves. It's not considered "news" if no one finds it interesting, it would be called "cheap plugs". If Hubble were signed to a solid label who put money behind them, had a hard working publicist who sent me press releases, and a solid agent who could get them good tours and give them an outlet to reach mass audiences, then I would post about them, because kids would have heard about them and took interest in the posts. But they didn't have that, and I've never even heard of the band until they broke up... that's not my fault, that's the label's fault and the band's fault. To end this once and for all I have to sound like a prick, because you haven't understood yet: I don't give a fuck how "good" a band is, or how many people "would" love them... I give a fuck about how many people "do" love them, because a band that people "would" love, implies that people dont love them yet, which also implies people wouldn't take interest in them since they don't love them. It is a labels job to break a band and get them huge, it is my job to keep kids informed on these bands once the labels have done their jobs. Look at celebrity magazines... those magazines DO NOT make people famous, they simply report news on people who have made themselves famous. Imagine if some dude walked up to a celebrity magazine and said, "Mass audiences would love me, I should be famous, put me in your magazine"...they'd laugh at him. The end. Have a good day man.
On a different note: The weather in New York is fucking gorgeous today.

Hehehe. Nice job. I was just about to add what a big role the label plays in "breaking out" the band. I never got any big push from the label when I booked those guys. All the promo and such came directly from one of the band members.
