it's a fun place to work if the co workers are cool. if the managers have egos and are huge dicks because they realized their lives are already over then it sucks.

but literally if you are surrounded by cool people you do nothing but stand around and talk to freaks and mongoloids all day.

if you are looking for income... this is not the place to work as they will probably only give you 10 hours a week at min wage, lol probably will lose that in gas money going back and forth

I refuse to work at the mall, let alone even shop there.

You get really shitty hours there unless you're a manager or key holder.
There are tons of better places to work at even with a tour schedule.

Before the Steve and Barry's around here shut down, they were cool with us leaving for however long we wanted to and we also got to choose our hours pretty much. I'm not sure if it was our manager that was tour friendly or if that's how they run all of them but I would deff check that place out if you have one near you.

Why would anyone born in the 80s have any kind of desire to work at this store?

Fallinto_rhythm

I love how everyone assumes he'll be making min. wage and recieve no hours. Every retail store is different regaurdless of where it's located. I'm sure Urban Outfitters on 14th is a hell of a lot different than the one on Broadway. It's the people, managers, costumers.

ahaha. I hate hot topic. the only time they ever have anything I like, I don't have any money. and i just avoid it in general because of all the 14 year old 'punk rawk kids'

actually, that's why i avoid the mall, in general.
although I would like to work at FYE, maybe.
or pacsun.

I'd probably work at some office firm. I'm pretty sure working at the mall would be a mistake for me.

you should do debt collection or something similar to that when you're not on tour. the pay is decent (so i've heard) and it doesn't require a whole lot of skills, but i'm sure it's better than making minimum wage and you could even put it on your resume without it looking worthless. just a thought since you're already 20.

I worked there for 2.5 years and I started when I was 16. It was fun because I had a good staff and you definitely meet interesting people. It really depends on your store and how the staff is there. It's a good place to start out working. Good luck.

i dont think so, i used to work for the abercrombie call center and we only worked with a+f, hollister, and Ruehl. I was thinking it was Gap that owned it. But I could be wrong.

I used to work at that shithole. when i got hired there they payed me a little higher than 7 bucks but i know that its even lower now. believe me you don't want to work there, the amount of brats that go there are truly overwhelming and isin't nearly worth the amount of work they make you do compared to how much they pay you.

A Hot Topic in Orlando is hiring? Rather, someone in Orlando is hiring? I have not been able to find a single store in any mall around here that is hiring right now, but then again I haven't really considered Hot Topic, but I may have to resort to applying there.

With a name like boysandbulletsx I'm guessing that you're pretty much a given. Just as long as you're scary/weird looking enough to scare the parents, but not so much that they don't let their little brat go into the store.

Forget you! I made this account in '04 - it was original and clever back then! Let's just say that when it comes to clothing sales, I've worked at Pac Sun and Gap - nothing similar to Hot Topic. Anyway, I remember when I was younger and my parents wouldn't go near that store because it was run by "freaks" and if they wouldn't take me into the store, then I wasn't allowed in there, hahaha. You have to admit that the people who work there now are far less scary-looking than the kind of people who worked there 4-5 years ago. But my parents are foreigners. They didn't understand why people dressed like that. Heck, I don't think anyone understood why people dressed like that.

PacSun = Hot Topic. Not in terms of merch content but you get the idea, when I worked at Hot Topic half the staff had either worked at Pac Sun just a couple feet away at the end of the mall or left Hot Topic to go work there. For months we basically traded workers, it was sad, you were basically doing the same job. Stocking, planning, register, fitting rooms, merchandising, folding clothes... It's all the fucking same no matter weather the shirt says Hurley/Bam Margera or Chiodos/Rockett Clothing. If you can do one you can do the other, the kids all look the same for the most part/like the same shit that work at either store.

I lived your exact fantasy that basically lead to me getting fired. In the end it was well worth it. Even better as an ex-worker now customer I can go in and speak my mind and belittle/shit on everything, and those workers have to put on their best "fake smile" for it. If they do anything else they know their job is fucked. (some managers make that store their lives.) It rules to be an asshole sometimes.

Question: If you work at Hot Topic, can you control the music that plays through the store while you're there? Whenever I go in there, I always see workers dicking around with the radio. If you could, that's totally ball sauce and worth working there. It would certainly make the horror of working there every day move faster.

I wouldnt work at hot topic. When I was 14 I went to the mall for christmas shopping with a few friends, 3 of us were willing and ready to shop anywhere but one of them refused to go into any "preppy" stores and and made us stay in hot topic for an hour while she listened to whatever the hell they were playing. Knowing that there are plenty of mall goths that make hot topic their life makes me want to avoid that place like the plague.

oh and people were pissed because everything they got from me came from hot topic that year because that was the only day I got to shop.
