View Full Version : Recommend One Band Only
3GunGaz

I am sure it's probably been done around 549 times already but...
Recommend one band for people to listen to.
- Someone you think a lot of people won't have heard of perhaps, or your favourite band.. whatever.
- A band that you think EVERYONE should listen to..
- Not necessarily a band / musician you'd expect to find on AP.net - broaden y/our horizons
- Also... you should check out the band that was recommended before (or several) and give your opinion, or if you have already heard them - say what you think.
Partly because I am in the mood for some new music haha.
[Please?]
I'll start with something a bit different
Bonobo
Some chilled out electronic music
http://www.myspace.com/sibonobo
also
Gilles Peterson
DJ from England - old Jazz, Hip-Hop, Funk, Latin stuff

(I realise that negates the concept of 'Recommend One Band' but hey... Trying to get the ball rolling)

Wow - Both fantastic bands from what I hear on first listen.
Even if only two people reply it's paid off haha.
I love discovering new / different music... The more different is usually the better these days with SO many bands out there with accessible music. Nice to hear something unique.
Take part - find something new haha!

Pop-punk, big love in the UK.
"The Honeymoon Suite show enough here to suggest they could become big players - on both sides of the pond"
4/5 - Punktastic
"Catch these guys now before they start playing arenas"
XFM Manchester - Recommendations
"Energetic, exuberant and often intoxicating, The Honeymoon Suite make the sort of robust alt.rock that could sell millions – jam-packed with surging choruses, thrilling riffs and big, big drums. It’s catchy but never infuriating, uncomplicated but never facile and, above all, perfect to have a big, sweaty, grinning jump around to!"

sick. im trying to actually make it to class this semester but fixing my sleep schedule has been futile, every time i go to bed at a decent time im up till 5 AM the next night haha. brutal loss of sleep.
i finally figured i was ready to really make attempts to expand my tastes so i did. developed a huge affinity for the beatles and radiohead recently (im almost certain at this point kid A is my favorite album). also been into some late 90s/early 00s indie/slowcore sounds such as pre-transatlanticism death cab, american analog set, pedro the lion, american football all that jazz, it's been really influencing my more recent writing. in other news, beck, brendan canning (from broken social scene), elliott smith (haha of course), nick drake and bon iver fucking rule.
i remember you being really into the honorary title and rilo kiley. that you still?

Haha, same. I work nights (well, 5pm-2am) so I usually fall asleep around 4ish. It's such a bad habit.

its been a habit for me since a girlfriend i had 2 years ago, haha we would talk on the phone till the sun came up on weekend nights and now with a looser college schedule with later classes its hard to avoid. but you just feel like shit when you're actually going to bed and its starting to get light outside, and you ahd all that time to sleep but instead you're still only getting 5 hours haha.
yeah haha, the pop-punk thing lasted for me for a long time but it was about time, i just sort of realized that a lot of old alt-rock/alt-folk recs that i didnt care for before were hitting me harder this time around and i was listening to those more than i was listening to like IARB and deja, and albums like TTTYG and TAYF fell out of rotation completely, so i figured that phase is pretty much over and its about time i start expanding. and its awesome, music as a whole hasnt felt this new to me in years. not only that but im starting to find a whole new realm of ways to appreciate music, no album before kid A had ever affected me in such a way, i felt almost removed from reality. at the moment my favorite band overall is probably death cab, ive acquired their entire discog and i love every album for a completely different reason.
cool beans man. haha we had this huge epiphany in the bright eyes thread about how jarrod gorbel and conor oberst look incredibly similar.
