This article was published in october, but i wanted to know what you all thought on this.
I havent seen any other thread like this, but if there is one im very sorry(I searched and didnt find one like it so i figured i would post)
This is the article: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14997.html
I had heard rumors she was running for president in 2012. This is a rumor that sent shivers down my spine just thinking about palin as possibly being our next president after Obama.
What are your thoughts on this? Would she make a good president? Would she not? I want to make this a worthwhile thread and redeem myself for the idiot ones i have posted in the past.
My view on this whole thing: PALIN SHOULD NEVER RUN FOR PRESIDENT. Simple as that

Well i personally know that. But i've heard so many people say they would just LOVE to see Sarah Palin as president because they think she has some good views for this country.
I was like what the fuck, are you stupid? She didnt even know what NAFTA was. And she has no clue how to run the country.
Obviously the people who feel she would make a good president are the radical republicans or something, because even most republicans i know HATED her. Thank God.

I personally think she'll make a stronger running than a lot of people think. A lot of people did like her, and she's got four years to actually learn some things about the country and make herself sound a lot smarter than she did in the Gibson and Couric interviews. I really hope she doesn't ever come close to being President, but I wouldn't go discounting it just yet.

Yeah those Gibson and Couric interviews basically screwed ANY chances she had of becoming president at ANY point in her political career. I mean you're right she has 4 years to mature, but i dont think she'll ever be up to the standards she needs to be at to become president.
To be 100% honest if Palin ever di become president, I can almost guarantee i would move out of the US for the term she was presidetn because the US would go to shit like it did when Bush was in office.(Not bashing bush just making a quick little observation/stating a fact)

If the country gets worse, Obama will lose in 2012 against just about anyone. Most people can't comprehend that it's going to take a few years to get out of this shithole.

Im almost positive obama wont fuck up. He has amazing views and goals for this country to get us out of the shithole it's in now.

Yeah thats if and only IF the country gets worse. But i have a feeling Obama really was the change we needed for this country. And its definitely going to take at least a year, maybe more to get us out of this economic shithole were in right now so i'm hoping obama will pull through for us all.

Seriously, we're one month into the Obama administration. We're two years away from the midterms. Any speculation about who is and who isn't going to run (Bobby Jindal I'm looking at you) is just that-- speculation. Last election was the most drawn out campaign in history, and the media is looking for something to fill the void of falling back to reality.
So to summarize, no one wants her to run. Ask this question again in 2 years, becuase until that point it's just a "everyone let's shit on Sarah Palin thread"

We should let this happen. This is the equal of Dan Quayle deciding he wants to beat Bill Clinton in a race. It's almost hard for her to turn it out around completely. She'll be able to rally her base, but that's it and you need more than that. She already has such a bad impression going into things. I want her to be the Republican nominee.

No real republican wants her. She does have awesome people skills though, and is quite polarizing. She subcribes to the theory that there is no such thing as bad press.
I was like what the fuck, are you stupid? She didnt even know what NAFTA was. And she has no clue how to run the country.
NAFTA is garbage.
Obviously the people who feel she would make a good president are the radical republicans or something, because even most republicans i know HATED her. Thank God.
Yeah, they're called neo-cons, and they're already doing a great job of ruining the Republican Party.

On that point alone, isn't that what Obama did? Rallied his base? I mean, he ran the most effective campaigns in the history of campaigning. If we're still in a shitty place in 2012, and this economy doesn't look good, and Sarah Palin comes along and rallies not only the base but a small percentage of the undecideds we are all fucked. She just might be able to pull it off, if all the peices fall into place right.
On a related note, I hope that doesn't happen. I'm going to need a job in 2012 and have no faith in a hypothetical Palin administration's economic policies.

Difference is Obama bought a shitload of new and independent voters along with him and I don't ever see Palin doing that. Even if things aren't completely better by 2012, Obama can still pull it through by making the case it's going to take time which he's already doing. I have some faith enough people understand that. BTW those are a lot of piece falling into place to make those most optimal situation for her. When you are thought of as a joke by some people heading into an election, that is not a good sign especially in this economy.

Well its fun to shit on sarah palin anyway because she proved herself to be quite the idiot in this election that just passed. I mean mccain choosing her as a vice was a stupid move seems how she's only been in government for a year before this and also has no clue on foreign policies or even some of our own here in the USA lmao. Lmao i know seriously. That was funny thinking Dan Quayle could beat Bill Clinton in the presidential race. I know she'll be able to rally a good base of supporters just because shes now a nationally known figure and a lot of people lioke her for some reason, but she will NEVER have the support she needs from others to become president.
But like i said it would be great comic relief seeing her run against Obama in 2012 :]

So in an October 2008 article she announced she was running in November 2012. Interesting. This is all the media telling us who they believe are the frontrunners. Just like Jindal said in Dec he couldn't see running in 2012. They're not stupid. They're not going to commit either way until the midterms. That'd just be dumb politically. It's to early to hitch your wagon to any specific posistions or people yet. Remember, Jan 08 the front runners were Giuliani and Clinton, and we saw how that turned out. Until 2011, any talk of this is just talk..

Huck's new book was a very interesting read. He said alot of stuff I couldn't agree with, and alot of it was good rhetoric but completely impossible to implement. The other 1/3 of it was shitting on Mitt Romney. He didn't have anything good to say about him, there were certain LOL worthy moments.
The fairtax and horizontal politics were interesting concepts, although his whole "Hucktown USA" model of self governing was a bit far fetched. I'm looking forward to seeing him speak.

Romney is an abomination to conservativism. I wish I had huck's book with me, his passage where he describes Mitt and Giuliani were pretty priceless.
Newt and Paul should be the highlights of this thing. Interesting to see what a man who wrote the Contract with America and brought the Republican party back to power and managed to fuck it up in less than 5 years has to say for himself now.

Personally I feel like if the Republicans believe they have a serious shot at winning, they'll run out Bobby Jindal. If they're looking to toss it away (ala Bob Dole) they'll run out Huckabee or Romney. Anyone else and they're crazy. If they truly care about the Republican Party and not their own interests (and if you saw W. you know they only care about themselves), they'll stick to those 3. Anyone else would be a step backwards (besides Paul, but he'll NEVER get it)

Congratulations, you feel like every other person on earth felt from 2005-Feb 2008 when they thought Giuliani was going to be the nominee.
What anyone thinks, or writes about, or a talking head rambles on about, is just speculation now. They're just looking for something to fill the time and grab viewers. Congrats for buying into it.
Anything before the midterms are too soon. That will be a good gauge of the climate and if the repubs seriously have a chance. Running someone like Palin, whther they have a chance to win or not, would polarize too many in the party.

Yeah definitly. I personally feel like it's fruitless to argue (or talk, either way) about it now. It's just speculation at best, and at worse it leads to partisan bickering when we should be working together. There is no other election for a few years (aside from what should be a Burris election soon), there really should be no reasons to argue at this point. By the media furthering these stories they're only helping to further wedge us.
Whatever, that's too optimistic.

He's setting himself up pretty nice if this whole stimulus package backfires. I always felt Hillary suffered from her apparent flip flop on the Iraq war issue. Seems a bit risky for him to do this though, I feel personally he has too much to lose politically by doing this.
He's a d-bag if this is all based on political calculation though. His job is to look out for his constituents.

Yeh true, but this stimulus package had ao many revisions and shit before it was passed so that it WOULNT backfire. I mean theres always that slight risk of it doing that, but i dont feel it will.

Politicians haven't been looking out for their constituents for years. This is nothing new.
They will once people stop accepting it as common practice.

But if the stimulus does a decent job....he's screwed. It'll look like he refused money that was needed for his state because of politics. Plus, it's just kinda of sad these type of stances are being taken when the country needs to serious cooperation and put politics aside. Plus when it comes to Republican Governors, he's in the minority on it.

I hate Sarah Palin as much, if not more then the next guy, but she does have some HUGE advantages.
1. She is the only Republican with any charisma/personality. She brings a personable nature to the table for the first time in a long while in a GOP candidate.
2. She has the Jackson/Bush "everyman" thing down pat. She is relatable to common Americans for whatever reason, which helps out a lot, as we saw in the 2000 election.
If Sarah Palin learns about the issues and can actually become an intelligent human being, then her charisma and other helpful features could carry her a long way.

Well i guess those 2 points are good. But i mean i dont think she has the know how to learn everything she would need to know to even begin to run for president in 2012.
I mean most people who run for president have been into politics since they were little, and have been some sort of political figure for more than 10 years before running.
If sarah runs in 2012 she will have only been a political figure for like 5 years, which is by far not enough time to even try to run
But like i said the 1st 2 points were pretty reasonable.

Since they were little? That is the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard. Obama started his political career in 96 as a legislator. 12 years ago. 34 years old sure is very little.

Besides grammar, your school obviously is lacking in math too. Considering she was mayor in 1996, and governor in 2006, in 2012 she would have 16 years of experience. [/quote]

Oh, well i didnt know she was a mayor in 1996, i only knew of her having 1 year of political career behind her(I heard that on every new station and in school. So blame my teachers for being idiots not me. And usually if you're into politics you start liking that stuff when you're like 15-16 and start looking into colleges that teach political courses and shit.

Even if you're talking about her just being Governor, that would have been a lie. I highly doubt any news organization would have said that. Not even MSNBC.
Also, I don't think there are very many politicians that get into politics at a young age. Most were lawyers or (as it was in the past) servicemen. I would like to see examples of this trend you state.

I think he was referring to Bush, how he came from a family of politics. That isn't that far fetched.

I'm not saying i KNOW that people like Obama or Palin got into politics at the age of 15 or 16. Thats just what i've heard. I heard that most people like them get into politics at a younger age, and then once they're old enough they go to school to learn about politics or become a lawyer so they know the government and laws pretty well.
But like i said thats just wat i've heard, but i guess i'm completely wrong?

Even at that point though, Bush hated hated hated politics up until the latter years of his life. Bush Sr was never a politician, Reagan was a movie star, Carter didn't get into politics until his 40s... The closest you can get to that point is Clinton, who volunteered on McGovern's campaign, but even then he became a professor and went into law before getting into politics at 28 (and not winning until 32).
While they all may have been "interested" in politics to some degree, it isn't this "major in polysci, graduate with a degree and instantly run for office" picture Mike Smith is trying to portray. Most of these people had real jobs, real degrees, and later on in life after having a successful career decided to venture into politics.
