Vinh will eventually tell a scene child that The Startling Line sounds like a pre-pubescent group of Chest Club alumnis fucking in an incinerator, which will prompt said scenesterista to label him a "fucking know-it-all elitist" and that The Sounds of Animals Fighting is much more ambient and experimental than any IDM band. Vinh will call respond by calling his stupid. The child will throw a tantrum and report him. Vinh will invariably face banning.

Why thank you, sir.
I'm two sentences into it. It's not a long piece, and I'm also halfway through the Chester French EP review I promised quite some time ago. Deadlines for the school paper and mid-terms have been monopolizing my time. After mid-terms and during spring break, I'll be contributing much more frequently.

when he first started posting, we crossed paths a couple times in various threads & it's pretty safe to say i took a liking to him as a poster straight away. but i remember some posters would get grumpy with him about this, that & the other, as if it was the first time someone had ever told them that bayside gone acoustic... wasn't all that impressive haha. i thought those kids would scare away another potentially awesome new poster with their mularkey. little did i know just what a character vinh would become round here haha

Completely tangential, but have you ever heard of Vijay Iyer or Rudresh Mahanthappa? They're among the best contemporary Jazz musicians and their 2006 collaboration Raw Materials is vastly overlooked.
Also, I'm listening to Naked City of late. They're very aggressive Jazz (with many other influences and sounds integrated into their music).
Haha same four for me, only I'd put you in that group as well.

Well thank you, Micah. You're among the posters I enjoy hearing from. Even if our views vary, I always know you'll provide some analtyitical commentary to your opinions or contribute something beyond "sucks," which is refreshing when other 18 year olds are so stuck in their views/tastes.

So, I was in FYE today because I needed some new music. (CDs are pretty much my cigarettes; I am addicted to them, and they keep me poor.) I saw the special deluxe edition All-American Rejects' new album "on sale" for $18.99. According to "stealthpeng" and "dancelukedance," AAR is the catchiest band of all time, so that looked very tempting.
Suddenly, a strange wind pulled me towards a $11.99 CD called Pink Moon. The name sounded familiar, and I had seen the artwork before as well. I picked it up and was pulled by another strange wind to the jazz section. There was a $6.99 used copy of John Coltrane's A Love Supreme. It was like a spirit wanted me to purchase those albums. I obliged.
That wind can only be described as Vinh.
(That story is almost entirely true, except for the fact that no AAR release has ever been appealing to me.)

I suppose I should post a meaningless list of users who "helped" me achieve this trivial milestone. Here goes:
Daveyhavok832 - Thank you for the relentless idiocy you graced this forum with for a few weeks. Also for this (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=310901) posted under an alias. It's only fair to include a few gems as well:if you were a woman... I'd punch you right in the mouth, with my weiner. I'll do it anyway simply because you listen to Pink Floyd you fucking cock juggler.
there is a collection of the best 8 songs ever written... It's called For All of This EP by The Early November
The only good contribution you make to this site is when there's no "online" status next to your name. You know there's a reason your breath smells so strongly of dog semen...
Honestly, I consider it the worst piece of garbage I have ever heard. It may be #12 for Rolling stone, but not on the Daveyhavok832 top 500 albums. Thanks for nothing Miles Davis.
Craig - You possess this fervent passion for music that seeps into each and every one of your posts. Reading them and exchanging recs during my time here has been a delight. Much love and respect again.
Ben - One of the first individuals I met on AP and a fine gent. Kudos on getting Sun On The Sand started. In my distorted reality, it's become what I am paid for when I'm at work.
Micah - Oh young one, your Dylan obsession is amusing and comforting in its consistency all at once. Keep up the good work with the writing and I look forward to seeing you grow as a reviewer in the near future.
Chriskel - Your immersion into all things instrumental last year gave us far more to discuss when it comes to music and it's been pleasant shooting the breeze with you about Bon Iver, Reich, and so on. Also a skilled writer I wish to see progress as the site does. Speaking of which, you basically inspired the entire project so monumental props.
Todd - Despite limited interaction, your presence (on both AP and SOTS) has been a blessing. Your humor and grasp of common sense is quite refreshing amidst this sea of Lacey fans.
Marco - Also not someone I've talked to all that much but always in the quality threads. Music forum needs more of you.
Mikelikeheaven - Properly representing Canada on these boards because I can't on account of Quebec being a shithole.
James - Really good guy, always up for new tunes.
Chriskilo - One of the better music regulars. I miss Claire and more importantly, divineignorance.
Clayton - Still waiting on that Middle Of Nowhere restrospective. Elitist.
Praetor John - The most musically precocious individual I've ever encountered. You nearly re-establish my faith in the youth.
Jacobdip - Willing to dive into new artists at every turn and among the users most involved in actual discussion these days.
Togepi - Entertainment at its finest.
Rodeo - For the jazz love.
Kid B - You're Kid B and that's reason enough.
theguy - Mr. Indie listens to big boy music now.
Every dolt who has ever accused me of elitism. Stop listening to shitty music.

Well, he was a very good breeze of flatulence, reeking of great musical wisdom.

I think it's a phase many people have to go through before finally giving in and slowly accepting the "elitist's" taste in music as something that should be imitated.
I hate when people fling the word "elitist" at others (especially on this site) merely because they are so insecure about their relative lack of knowledge and passion about a subject they feel left out of a conversation and are compelled to lash out in order to compensate.
We've probably spoken only once, but I've got mad respect for Vinh.

If anyone likes Radiohead more than Say Anything, then logically, they must be an elitist.

Preferences shouldn't be imitated, it's just that those who bemoan purported snobbery are typically rather narrow-minded as it pertains to music. Not only this, they seem content to mire within self-constructed confines, as if resisting the urge to explore different genres is a worthy accomplishment. Moreover, these same kids who whine about elitism shit all over Aiden fans because you know, it's bad music and Taking Back Sunday totally isn't.
I was never aware of this poster until Vinh Appreciation, but I must say, he's hilarious in that "mildly retarded dog continuing to run into the wall as he tries to enter the doorway to the kitchen but is oblivious to why he consistently fails" way.
I miss him.

Well, I suppose imitated was the wrong word... I fully agree with this post. The Aiden/TBS comment brought the lulz, probably because it's so true.
Granted, I'll always consider "good music" relative to at least some extent, and I will love Thrice and Brand New, not because I think they are the most amazing bands ever, but because I can relate so well with Dustin and Jesse's lyrics. After all, the most important thing in music is how it affects you. Someone could create the most ridiculously technical and revolutionary piece ever, but if no one can connect with it, what's the point? Just my two cents.

Daveyhavok832 - Thank you for the relentless idiocy you graced this forum with for a few weeks. Also for this (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=310901) posted under an alias. It's only fair to include a few gems as well:

Well, there happen to be more aspects to straightedge than not drinking, and it's not like that always stops people. I'm not going to argue this here, though. This is the "Vinh is a gentleman and a scholar and makes AP.net awesome" thread, not the "Can you be straightedge before 21?" thread.

All in all its been an enjoyable season so far, its just mostly been, like I said, set up episodes. Just connecting all the loose ends and setting up all the little back stories about how they got back to the island after leaving, before really getting into things. Looks like that phase of the season is winding down though, and the big stuff is about to happen.
Well Season 3 was a huge snorefest until the final couple episodes, where they completely blew every episode they've done before or since out of the water.
Hopefully that is the case with this season.
