you'll be beautiful instantly on outward appearance
but nothing but a laughable shell
like unwholesome harlequins
with a facade of painted smiles
there's nothing real
nothing that you are at all
just a body with broken eyes
and the fashion of royalty adorning heart's secret self-infliction

no reason to ponder
no reason to try to look your best now
because you'll never be as dashing
as in your velvet laden coffin

forget what you wished for
in the days you went to sleep before the sun went down
it's always inappropriate to dwell in unsuccessful success
because the best you'll ever look is on your bed
asleep and dead

be who you can be as soon as you are
life's not worth worrying about superficial scars
get dirty and broken
messed up and beat up
ugliness in the process won't matter
because you'll never look better than peering down on your cocoon
higher than stars and midnight moon
seeing your made up movie-star face
and realizing that bodies are nothing but shapes
