View Full Version : Opening Day 2009 - are you going? any cool plans?

I'm assuming everybody is excited about Opening Day for their respective teams. Who is going to their team's opening day? What team is it? Any cool plans for the day or any traditions that you do each year for it? Is your game going to be a good one?

I'll be going to Brewers opening day against the cubs. Any Brewers/Cubs game is fun, so to have it on opening day will make it all the better. I don't really have any huge plans. Just plan on starting the tailgate party when the parking lot gates open and I'll consume an unhealthy amount of food.

(I admit, I did not check to see if another thread is out there about this. If there is, my apologies.)

Not going to opening day, but going to opening night. Actually maybe opening day too. They haven't raffled off the chances to buy opening day yet.

I'm waiting for the raffle too. I already own a ticket for opening day because me and some friends bought a small season ticket package and it gave us an opening day ticket opportunity. But I promised my girlfriend I'd take her to opening day. So now I'm trying to get selected in the raffle to buy a pair or I'm going to have to resort to craigslist. Then I'll sell my individual ticket. Either way, I'm going though.

There is nothing wrong with being plopped on the couch all day. That can be just as fun.

might go to either the first or second game of the phils season. the only reason i would rather go to the second is that they are giving out shirts that have the phillies logo and CHAMPS underneath it. bad ass.

I wish I could go, but I'm stuck at school and there's no way I can even get tickets for here at Fenway. I used to go down to spring training all the time, but school ruined that too :(

yeah that's the one I'm going to. I would've liked to go to the Wednesday game because they're giving out the rings then.

Reading.... go to a lot of R-Phils games?

I'm waiting it out. I mean I promised her we would go to opening day and I know she legitimately likes going to baseball games, not just opening day. But I'm going to cross my fingers for the raffle, otherwise I'll be paying out the ass like you did. But if that's what it comes down to, I'll do it.

i used to go all the time back in the day but not so much anymore. the set up there is pretty cool cause all the players come out and sign autographs before the game and interact with the fans a lot. i loved that when i was little. i really should try to go there more often cause the tickets are so cheap.

Definitely. Reading Phillies games are such good times with friends. Especially when you're 21. The Deck Parties are awesome.

I got my opening day tickets (Washington Nationals at Florida Marlins). I kinda wish that we weren't opening the regular season against the Nationals, but I guess it is better than having to face Santana or Hamels on opening day. It looks as if Scott Olsen may be on the hill for the Nationals, which should be fun since we just traded him. Go Fish!

Won't be at any games but I've already requested the day so it's baseball from 10am-10pm for me.

My gf loves sports also and we've got tickets to six Giants games already.

I splurged for Yankees opening day tickets last year and it ended up getting rained out. I sat in Yankee Stadium for 4 hours before they ended up postponing it. I couldn't go the next night becasue I would have missed too many classes and already had my ticket booked back to school, so my brother who is a Mets fan ended up going to the final opening day at Yankee Stadium.

I don't think I'd waste my money again on opening day.

I was there as well. Showed up at 9am to drink, game got rained out at 2pm. I went home, soaking wet, and wasted, with no baseball. Sucked. I was lucky enough to still be able to go the following day, however.

this thread just reminded me i need to ask my dad what tickets he got from our season ticket package. he splits 81 home games with 7 other guys so we get 10 games. we normally get shafted and have to see baltimore, seattle, kansas city, etc. I hope we get a yankee or red sox game this year.

My grandpa and a couple of his friends are taking a party bus down to Citi Field and watching the opening game from the SNY box. He also went last year to Shea's final opening day and rode there in a limo. This guy he knows, his son can get tickets to any event, anywhere, anytime, no questions asked.

^ Could be your final opening day... since they (the royals and the the Chiefs) could be gone by the end of the year. Heck, the Chiefs may not even be playing there at all this year.

I know how you feel. I've been reading spring training reports like its my job. This season is going to be exciting for me. The Giants have a legit chance to win the West this year. (Which isn't saying much, 1st round of the playoffs and they're ousted by whoever wins the Wild Card. Mets)

understandable but it's not like he's some ticket broker that hires 20 different people to log in and buy the seats so they can rape everyone (including the seller and buyer) on charges.

your chances of actually getting opening day seats to the new stadium are pretty slim so why not take a shot and try to make some money? the demand was going to be absurd whether or not this kid did what he did.

Stubhub I can get 225 a ticket for OD, which I can then buy 2 tickets for a Mets/Yankees game and pay for a months train pass.

After paying 400 last year to sit through a rain out for OD, and then NOT get to see the game the next night, I really don't see why this game is put on such a pedestal. I spent 50 cents on the first actual game at NYS and I'm fine with just going to that one.

Honestly, they were all gone at 10:05 this morning. I was logged into TM at 955 with my credit card already stored in the acct. At 10:00 I refreshed and searchd for 2 tickets in the GS. When you seach this year, you can't do best available, or else you waste your time and will be given the 500, 800, 1050, or 2500 dollar seats NOBODY wants, and then you ahve to go to the back of the line... If you're trying for ANY other game, specify either level (GS, Bleacher, Terrace) or Foul Pole (the most you can be offered is 150, which is already sold out to season tix)

Since you were a partial holder, did you get anything in the presale?

A co-worker of mine was in the presale and managed to get 2 mets games and 3 sox games through the presale on friday. I might see if he's interested in swapping for the OD tickets. From what he says, it wasn't hard to get good games if you weren't shooting for OD or the cubs.

From what I've been told by some rep friends, saturdays and sundays are all sold out plan wise. 20 games are still around, both plans have an abundance of seats just none in GS. Friday has some GS and some bleachers still left, and the weekday plans are still have a lot of everything.

edit:: and they just started 2/07 late this afternoon.
