View Full Version : Best Lyrical Rapper Alive?

There is a poll asking people who is the best rapper, which I felt left out plenty of better talent. This poll is made to name the best lyrical rapper alive today.

Lupe Fiasco gets my vote he is so talented and his messages connect with everyone, Rock and rap fans alike

I would rather not put Lil Wayne on this list, since he has no skill but I have no choice.

I was going to put P.O.S. and Atmosphere, but I didn't think Atmosphere was big enough on these boards thats why I put an other category. and "wamp wamp, what it do" ain't really lyrical to me.

Name respectable hip-hop artists you've heard who you dislike.

I don't know who you consider "respectable," but I have heard and dislike every artist on this poll, as well as a handful of others.

Well almost every artist in this poll is pretty shitty so that narrows that down.

Dude you are ignorant that is just a chorus from their single. It that all you heard from Clipse? They have great lyrics as well as awesome wordplay. Obviously all the reviewers who loved their lyrics are wrong as well.

On Metacritic, the album received an aggregate score of 89/100 from twenty-nine reviews—indicating universal acclaim. Critics praised the inventiveness of Clipse's lyrics and the exotic elements of The Neptunes' production.

kanye's my favorite. and i've started respecting wayne, some songs in his catalogue are very well written ( i.e tie my hands, i feel like dying).

but as a lyricist, lupe fiasco is outstanding. Put You On Game is mind boggling. one of the only rappers i've ever heard to effectively use satire.

Critics also praised Tha Carter 3, and he had lyrics like "Got da maserati dancin on the bridge pussy poppin" and "I make that ass jump like jurp jurp".

Rap Critics are becoming dumber by the years, I am actually a Clipse fan I just don't think they more lyrical than Lupe Fiasco, Mos-Def, Atmosphere, Talib-Kweli, or Nas.

lyrically and performance-wise it's Jay-Z, T.I., or Lupe Fiasco. Eminem isn't horrible, but I've never enjoyed one of his albums all the way through (and I have for the other three)

Fuck rap

I used to think that... but over the past few years my view of rap has really changed. I've always been a huge fan of Jay-Z's "Black Album", but I never had really gone beyond that. I'm still pretty selective in what I like, but I've definitely opened up to it more. There's good stuff out there.

you sir need to chill the hell out. What I mean by real, is that P.O.S. is pissed off, and he tells you how it is. Lupe is solid, Common has some good stuff too, but I get tired of the rappers that only talk about money, women, or some other thing that no one really cares about.

batmannj
02/28/09, 10:55 AM
Atmosphere is not a rapper. It has nothing to do with what the definition of a rapper is. There is a rapper in Atmosphere, though. His name is Sean "Slug" Daley. And even if Slug would have been in the poll... everyone who voted for him should either (a) get out more or (b) the title of the poll should be changed to "Favorite Rapper Alive".

Usually when people name the artist, in this case Atmosphere, they mean the rapper in it. So I guess I missed your point.

I am chilled out. you are just making POS out to be the be-all, end-all of rappers in terms of lyrics, and while yes that may be true, Lupe, Common, and Talib (among others) rap about very meaningful topics. not trying to be an ass, it's that the way your first post came off was a little silly.

it was like a five-way tie between Common, Talib, Mos-Def, and Lupe

but the stuff Mos-Def talks about really woke me up....plus I can relate to it. i can't really get into "Fuck that b****, shoot that n****, sell that crack, smoke that weed, make that money, buy those rims, shoot that n*****, buy those rims." Seriously wtf is that some mathematical formula for a successful rap career?

well I would go to this stie: www.theendoftherebellion.wordpress. com (http://www.theendoftherebellion.wordpress. com)

blog run by a few of the main players in the hip-hop thread. good stuff in there. of course Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and Common are all good artists to explore. Talib and Mos made an album together under the name of Black Star that many would consider a classic, but I'd look around in the thread too. enjoy

but, i suppose you had to leave him out to give the others a chance.

"it was just a bit of nervousness, i didn't mean to turn her dress from the very perfect pink to the shade of murders, now her face is verdant green, i, horrified, observe the scene, i made a mess and spilled a glass of the finest '83, the waiters they all stop and stare, the patron's shock and awful fears force their forks to plates to clank in unison and rock their ears, and look at me, the hopeless goof, the country wolf that's under hoof, whose blunder would be understood as social tragedy, "we never should have let him in!", "i never trusted him!", i hear the people muttering through polished teeth and chuckling, the tension's quick and doubling, i glance at my date's ugly grin, she's tried this case, it cannot wait, erase this memory!, they all see just what must be done, the waiter brings the sharpest one, now vengeance comes, finally the taste for blood is on her tongue!, i reach to clean where wine has fallen, handkerchief in outstretched arm, too late! she takes the blade and tucks it deep inside of me..."
